“Total hidden gem in SF. It’s low key and does take out only, but don’t let that fool you, this place rivals SF’s finest establishments. I moved in a few blocks down the street and have been ordering take out almost every day as I unpack. I’ve tried the chicken hummus plate, meatball and rice plate, and the Beyran Soup. “I can’t recommend the Garden Cafe enough! I had a wonderful first experience here today having lunch. The food was delicious & nutritious- I got the Salmon Greek Salad (comes with garlic bread) and the “San Rafael Sunrise” drink, which is a juice including veggies and chia seeds. Lots of seating options indoors and outdoors with good lighting. Free wifi for those looking for a good study spot.
The service was AMAZING and contributed to creating such a friendly, inviting atmosphere. I have to give a special shout-out to Miguel, who was so gracious and apologetic about my juice being made wrong the first time. They were out of beets and I believe Miguel called someone and had more beets brought in while I was eating lunch so that I had a corrected juice with beets to enjoy before I finished eating! To be clear, I told Miguel it was completely fine that they were out of beets but he insisted it wasn’t fair to not get what I ordered and made sure I got my beet juice. I can vouch for how much the Garden Cafe values each customer there! I will be recommending to friends and coming back.“

“With 3 hours to kill, we set off for the food court recommended by a pilot we asked and looked at our options. We decided to "be healthy" after a 10-day cruise and were rewarded with amazing food! The Good Catch Vegan Manhattan Seafood Chowder and Tortilla soup were both amazing and the Cabo salad was hearty enough for us to share and not feel deprived in any way. Of course, we then justified a couple of chocolate chip cookies for dessert-LOL. I now hope we have a reason to get back there again.“

“Proper Food is a grab-and-go eatery located in the Financial District. It is targeted towards workers in the area as it is only open on weekdays during breakfast and lunch. They sell a lot of standard fare like sandwiches and salads, albeit with a gourmet slant. Was visiting my company's SF office, which was housed in the same building and got a light breakfast here. I can imagine this being a default spot if I was working there and needed to grab something quick to eat.“

“My “Go to” Ramen spot when I’m in the Richmond District. Ive tried almost the entire menu..My favorite is the House Special Tonkatsu Ramen with an extra side of Ramen noodles. There’s usually little to no waiting as it seems that neighborhood customers are very considerate of one another. Service goes a long way for me. The Staff seems to remember what both my daughter and I like to order as the food comes out right away. I think this place is a great addition to the block and a good place to take a friend or a date..the atmosphere is very neutral and you are able to carry on a conversation (even when it’s crowded). If you’re in the Richmond and enjoy Ramen, this place is worth a visit.

“Got the salmon delivered. With cous cous and spinach and holendaise. A bit pricey, but they are experts at prep, and cooking. Salmon was perfect. Honey ginger, without over powering each other or the salmon. Roasted pine nuts? Very very tasty and roasted to perfection. The holendaise was tart again exactly the way it should be. Exceptionally fresh, exceptionally executed. When in the city I will stop by and thank them. Now, of course I want to try everything else on their menu.“

Two tips to share:
1) Instead of building your own salad, customize one of the salads on the menu. For exactly the same selection, customization turns out slightly cheaper.
2) For those who count calories, use the website to make your selection and count the calories first. With some careful swaps (eg, lemon juice instead of salad dressing, grilled chicken instead of fried), you can make dramatic reductions.

“Opa Cafe absolutely crushed it at the Alif Summit! They took care of everything from the gorgeous wooden serving trays to the perfectly curated halal meat and cheese boards. Everything was fresh, beautifully presented, and constantly restocked. I try not to let price be a factor in my reviews of restaurants because San Francisco has such a high cost of living… typically if the food is expensive, that means that 1. It’s quality 2. They pay their employees well 3. The cost of rent is probably more than you could ever imagine.

Today we got the Turkey sandwich with tomato basil soup, they use Diestel turkey which has always been one of my favorite organic, free range farms. The soup was rich and full of flavor… I liked the consistency, it wasn’t too creamy and still had a dark red flavor that lets you know the tomatoes are fresh and juicy (they also put tomatoes on the skirt steak sandwich which proved to be plump and juicy.) The turkey sandwich was simple in nature, I substituted pepper jack cheese for the goat cheese because goat cheese can sometimes over power everything else and I wanted to see how the sandwich would taste in a more traditional turkey sandwich kind of way… the pesto sauce that came on the sandwich was delicious and had more spice than I was expecting, definitely something unique to this restaurant, would probably make a fine dipping sauce for the French fries :)

The other Sandwich we got was the Skirt steak, you may be a bit turned off by this, but I like my skirt steak well done, especially when it’s grilled because the marinade gets caramelized and I personally like tasting the char… that’s what Barbecuing is all about (isn’t it??) the sandwich came out with more fixings than the turkey, primarily the tomato is what set it apart, and the cheese melted nicely due to the hot steak. The steak was mouth watering and tender, it broke down easy with every bite and was cut in nice chunks to prevent pulling out a whole piece and degrading the foundation of the sandwich :P The fries were rather traditional, shoe string and lightly salted, we got bbq sauce on the side that was rich and tangy, with a bit a sweetness to finish off the slight spice.

Overall this was a delicious meal with plenty of food to satisfy two solid eaters appetites, we even had a half a sandwich to take home for left overs. Service was simple, they give you a number and you order at the counter… I will definitely be eating here again, but not as often as I’d like due to the price point, lots of restaurants to try… luckily they have a thriving community around them, so even if people only eat there a couple times a month, they’ll be alright.

“Ayola holds a special place in my heart. I used to frequent Ayola at least once a week when I worked in San Francisco. I work outside of San Francisco now, so it's not as easy for me to come get my fix. I still haven't found another place that tastes as good or better Greek/Mediterranean food.

My favorite is their Chicken Gyro, and their fries are just as amazing. Pairing it with their hot sauce is phenomenal!

On the floor level, there's a few tables to sit down if you wish to dine in, and there's a few spots to sit on the upper level as well, but it's a pretty tiny shop.

“A “Must Stop” for lunch! The best sourdough bread I’ve ever had. Wanted to go back and just order a bunch of bread to take home and spoil the family. “This is a good lunch spot for FiDi. Sandwiches are $12.50-$14. Salads are $10-$11. Prices on their website are outdated. My sandwich , the LLB special $12.50 was roast beef, turkey, ham, swiss, provolone on dutch crunch, was alright. The New England Clam Chowder $8.50 was chunky and not filled all the way up. That tasted OK as well. Friendly service for a counter style restaurant. Kitchen was fast taking account they were busy. I was pretty full afterwards.“
