“The food has a great taste and I can tell the recipe of the broth is thoughtfully designed and flavored. The service was fine but the restaurant felt too crowded and loud. Laurel Grill 9300 Culver Blvd suite 210, Culver City American • $$$

“We parked across the street from the Culver Steps garage, which turned out to be the easiest option — reasonable rates, plenty of space, and a quick walk over. You can take the elevator up to the restaurant, which makes the whole place accessible, but we took the stairs. Going up in the evening felt almost cinematic: the steps are softly lit, the buildings glow around you, and Culver City has that nighttime energy that feels both urban and cozy.

Inside, Laurel Grill is big, warm, and slightly dressy in the best way. The lighting is dim but elegant, the bar stretches across the room, and there’s a hum of people settling into conversations, date nights, and groups of friends meeting after work. Even though the space is huge, we still had a short wait and eventually sat at the bar — which ended up being perfectly comfortable.

The service was lovely. We were checked on multiple times, glasses refilled, and never once felt unattended.

We kept dinner simple: handmade pasta — fresh, flavorful. We also appreciated that the menu has good options for vegetarians. Between the pastas, salads, and sides, it didn’t feel like an afterthought. Drinks were reasonably priced for fancy LA :)

The bar area does sit close to the doors, and since many of them stay open, it can get chilly on colder nights. If that bothers you, request a table away from the entrances or opt for a booth inside. The outdoor fire pits also looked beautiful and would be great on a more temperate evening.

One little detail we loved: the restaurant decor includes classic Hollywood photos — Elvis and other vintage touches — which reminded us that Culver City is surrounded by studios.

Overall, Laurel Grill is a great pick for a slightly elevated night out. The space is gorgeous, the food is solid, the service is warm. We would definitely return — maybe next time for a table and a slower dinner, or a cozy drink by the fire.”

You can choose between dark and light meat, I’ve chosen light. The chicken was really well seasoned and wasn’t dry at all. The meal came with roasted potatoes, aioli and a chili dip which is so addicting. The pita and Hummus were also delicious and make it such a tasty combo. Next time I want to check out their dine in restaurant which is just one minute away. Also shoutout to the friendly staff :)”

esme 3837 Main St, Culver City Coffee & Tea • $$

“If you’re reading this, here’s the short version: this is easily one of the best restaurants in Culver City, and you need to try it now!

It’s a small spot in downtown Culver City that you could walk past without noticing. I’m glad I didn’t. There are a couple of tables outside, but most of the seating is indoors. The space is modern, clean, and relaxing.

We ordered three dishes, all recommended by our waiter. The mussel toast is a must. Every bite is savory and packed with seafood flavor. For mains, we had the short rib and rainbow trout. The short rib was perfection. Cooked over fire and served with crispy potato strings. It’s something you get at high-end steakhouse but at half the price. The rainbow trout looked beautiful and tasted fresh, though the citrus was a bit stronger than I prefer.

For dessert, we couldn’t resist the churro and ice cream sandwich. The ice cream (another must try), sourced from a Persian maker, was rich with rose, honey, and pistachio. The presentation was just as impressive. The churros were decent, though I wished they were crispier and the dipping sauce was thicker.

Overall, I’d give this place a solid five stars. The food is close to Michelin quality without the Michelin prices. Go and you won’t be disappointed.”

I’ve been there twice now and I can highly recommend the burger on the menu - the fried egg on top completes it! And the mussels in the light cream sauce are wonderful - especially with fries. A friend of mine ordered the fried Bronzino - the complete fish including the head - and she said it was delicious. There are great cocktails available and several wines and Prosecco available by the glass. The onsite valet parking is a bit steep, but there are many nearby options for parking in downtown Culver City if you don’t mind walking a few blocks.”

He laughed and said Tacomiando (why he was laughing just delivered him food from the restaurant… he said this is definitely the best in the area and he was not mistaken. This food from the cleanliness of the restaurant to how nice and helpful the staff was I always judge a restaurant on their chips. As well, I can honestly say these chips were incredible along with everything I’ve tried. I almost forgot to mention they’re incredible salsa bar. Hope you can see in the photo, but it was quite extensive. ✨🤩😍

Cognoscenti Coffee 6114 Washington Blvd, Culver City Coffee Shops • $

“I write for a music and coffee blog called Crooners In Coffeeshops, in which I interview local musicians at local coffeeshops. My writeup reflects the positive experience that I encountered at Cognoscenti Coffee on our interview date. Modern meets comfort with a hint of retro inside (and outside) Culver City’s Cognoscenti Coffee. Don’t let its small exterior fool you, because once you step inside you will be welcomed by a slew of cute bistro tables, industrial benches, and colorful chairs. But wait, there’s more! Veer to the right and catch a breath of fresh air in their somewhat secluded patio area. Whether you’re meeting with your bestie or having a writer’s meeting, you will easily be able to find a space to fit however many people in your party. Now let’s get to the good stuff! Cognoscenti’s beverage menu is comprised of the classics along with fun seasonal recipes in the mix. My drink of choice, the surprisingly refreshing Turmeric Latte. I wasn’t quite sure what I was getting myself into, but I’m very glad that my day to be adventurous was an enjoyable one with its perfect ratio of milk to spice. Hungry? Check out their selection of huge (and I mean huge) pastries to fill you up for breakfast or to hold you over until your group dinner in one of the Downtown Culver restaurants.”

Stone Oven 6000 Sepulveda Blvd #3218, Culver City Fast Food • $

“This is a place that you wouldn't expect to find in a mall foodcourt – mouthwatering sandwiches made with freshly baked bread and an excellent selection of salads. The giant stone oven is the centerpiece of this counter-service restaurant, and their soft breads with cheese baked into the top crust are constantly being pulled out for the spectacle. Very low key and tasty spot that I believe would be more successful outside of a shopping mall.”

The wings were piping hot, and the aroma that wafted from the box was simply incredible. The blend of spices and flavors was perfect, and I was truly blown away.

The rice was buttery and delicious, and the vegetables were a wonderful complement to the meal.

“I love Simonette. The patio is a wonderful place to relax and enjoy a cocktail and breakfast, lunch, or brunch.

“As for Fried Chicken goes, Honey Kettle is one of the better ones in Southern California. The simplicity of the goods is what makes this staple good. There isn't many frills, but good fresh chicken cooked with some care.

There have been some small issues with service from time to time, but overall I would maintain their high rating because of the delicious chicken they serve.

There are some hit and misses with their sides, but certainly do get their beans.

Portions are not big, but there is nothing wrong with over-ordering something that could be finished later.”
