“Heritage Restaurant, Long Beach – A Well-Earned Michelin Star by Michael Broderick. In a city where “Californian” culinary ambition often plays second fiddle to casual dining, Heritage in Long Beach has carved out a place of quiet excellence, earning a well-deserved Michelin star. This intimate dining experience is a testament to ingredient-driven, technique-forward cooking, where flavors are both restrained, unpretentious, and deeply expressive. From the first bite, it was clear that Heritage excels at layering textures and flavors in unexpected ways. The meal began with an Amuse Bouche trio: a delicate prawn cracker topped with sweet Dungeness crab, a green leaf with another seafood salad that was to be eaten like a mini street taco, and balanced with the brightness and light crunch of pickled turnip. A seemingly simple couple of bites, but one that foreshadowed the precision and thoughtfulness of the courses to follow. To cleanse the palate, a mint tea infused with palo santo was served—a meditative interlude that was both refreshing and aromatic, setting the stage for the evening’s journey. The first official course, Crème Caviar, featured Russian Sturgeon Heritage Caviar and chive, a chilled preparation that was rich yet elegantly restrained. This was followed by Kanpachi Crudo, presented with carrot, ginger, and macédoine vegetables, offering a balance of clean ocean flavors against bright, vegetal undertones. Then came what I consider the star of the evening: a dish that fully captured the ethos of Heritage—Hen of the Woods Mushroom, topped in a “sunchoke stew” (crispy fried sunchoke) with fermented mushroom. For an additional $25, an indulgent shaving of black truffle took the dish to another level, transforming it into a sensory experience that evoked the deep, earthy satisfaction of foraging. The interplay of umami-rich elements made this course a masterpiece of textural and flavor contrast. The proteins that followed were executed with equal care. First, a perfectly prepared Rainbow Trout, sauted to perfection with a crispy layer of skin on one side, delicate pink flesh on the other, bathed in a delicate dashi and punctuated with bursts of smoked trout roe in a light creme sauce, which lent salinity and depth. Then, a 32-day dry-aged rib chop, a cut that can sometimes lean too “gamey” in the tradiinal steak house that cuts corners on a post aging trim, yet here was a revelation—tender, deeply beefy, but balanced. Accompanying the dish was sous vide endive, black garlic, and a shaving of Parmesan, which surprisingly lacked the usual sharpness, instead presenting a more rounded, delicate, nutty flavor. Desserts were a study in technique and balance. The first, a Grilled Strawberry with strawberry granita and Meyer lemon crème, was bright and refreshing, its layers revealing different expressions of cool and sweetness. Then came the Coco Craquelin, a delicate choux pastry filled with beurre noisette ganache and banana cremeux, meant to be eaten with the hands—a playful and interactive moment in the meal. Finally, a Sage Basque Cake, its subtle herbaceousness complemented by toasted hemp seeds and lemon curd, provided a grounding, crispy finish. Heritage is the kind of restaurant that doesn’t simply chase trends—it refines them into something personal, something intentional. The execution is confident but never showy, and the experience is paced with precision, allowing each dish to tell its own story. This is not just a meal—it’s a quiet, profound meditation on flavor, technique, and the land from which it all comes. Where other restaurant profess to be a true “Californian” style farm to table experience , Heritage is, without a doubt, a must-visit for anyone who seeks out truly exceptional dining in California.“

“This place is the best! I’ve had the bacon ranch fries from here for pickup and through uber eats. The employees are so kind and the the service is great. The portion for the price is pretty good. Also it tastes amazing! They offer so much variety and their desserts sound amazing.
They also have a bunch of deals during the week, check their IG for the different offers.“

“Had the grilled fish sandwich. It was a nice piece of the catch of the day. It was grilled perfect. It was placed on a fresh roll with lettuce, tomato, onion and a very good sauce. It was served with fries. We upgraded it to truffle parmesean fries. They were delicious. Our server was very good. The food came quickly. We will go back!“

“We sat on nicely warmed outdoor patio watching the fun street scene pass us by. Creative options on the menu made it hard to choose. Exellent, beautifully presented wedge salad, seafood chowder and salmon were the winners. In the seafood chowder, at $18, we didn't expect a lot of seafood. It was more of a mushroom cream soup with delicious bread and some fish, which suited us fine. The salmon with couscous was perfectly prepared and a generous portion. The salad was also generous sized and creative. Service was excellent and non-intrusive. We parked right in front, free meter after 6 or 7pm. Fun to walk the area afterwards, see all the new places and Chapter II coffee which is open late and apparently turns into an alternative non-bar bar type scene with low lights and louder music. All in all, second street makes for a great date night.“

“I've been coming to Union Jack's for years now and have to say, they have the best fish and chips around... Hands down! Every other place where I've tried their fish and chips, I've compared them to Union J's and they have all failed! If you want to have some of the best around and enjoy some treats from the UK (they sell some imported items inside the restaurant) then Union Jack's is your place to go!“

“My first time here , came based off Google reviews. Absolutely wish we can order everything off the menu but my stomach can't take it all!! I ordered the Cantonese filet mignon stir fry with mushrooms, onions and Thai basil leaves and it was soooo flavorful and tender. My friend ordered the chow mein with chicken and it was soo delicious and I'm not talking about the panda express type chow mein. Can tell that this place really uses quality ingredients. Love the atmosphere. Hope to come back here again with my family to enjoy their dimsum!! I definitely want to try their Boston lobster fish next time!! Please check this restaurant out if you are a local or coming from out of town! It's a must😊“

“I recently visited this charming little Mexican and marisco restaurant for the first time, and it was a delightful experience. The server was not only nice but also incredibly attentive, enhancing our dining experience. We were treated to complimentary chips accompanied by delicious bean dip, queso fresco, and salsa, which were simply fantastic. I ordered the shrimp tacos, and I highly recommend them for their flavor and freshness. Overall, I would rate this spot an 8 out of 10, primarily because I found the prices to be a bit on the high side.“

“Came here for a business dinner and was seated outside on a beautiful evening. Started off with a mix of oysters and the Cevichos. Both were excellent. Then the 5 of us went different directions for our mains, but my Squid Ink Linguini was top notch! Our server this evening was Chase K. He did excellent and we would love to come back here. “The food here is amazing! Fresh fish was delicious. I had the grilled Mahi Mahi, and my companion ordered the grilled Sea Bass. I am not a fish lover, but I could rave about both. The salad was fresh and tasty. Those words don't come from me very often. The fries were quite good, and I didn't hate the fried zucchini. When we ordered the entrees, they came with two sides. They had canned soda but supplied ice and cups. The place was so clean and tidy. The staff were helpful, friendly and assisted us with ordering our meal. I will be back again.“

“If you're in Paramount and craving bomb mariscos, run to Mariscos El Guicho! This food truck is next-level. I ordered the tacos enchilado, fish tacos, and the Botani Culichi platter — and honestly, everything was incredibly fresh and packed with flavor.
The tacos enchilado had the perfect spicy kick, balanced with just the right amount of creamy sauce. The fish tacos were crispy and tender, not greasy at all. And the Botani Culichi? That platter was loaded with flavor — creamy, cheesy, with that signature Culichi green sauce that ties it all together. Every bite was a hit.
Friendly service, quick turnaround, and super generous portions. You can taste how fresh the seafood is, and the quality is top-notch for a food truck. Definitely a spot I’ll be coming back to often“

“Carnicería MZT is an absolute gem in Paramount ca. The owner is incredibly friendly and always goes above and beyond—she makes a fresh ceviche and honestly, it beats a lot of other places around. Every time I’m craving seafood, this is the first place I think of.
Not only do they sell amazing ceviche, but they also have great seasonings and a delicious house salsa that seriously goes good on everything. You can tell everything is made with care and pride. Highly recommend stopping by—you won’t be disappointed!“

“I love the Lobster! took my sister in law for lunch, they were only serving lunch menu so we asked at the entrance if we could order Lobster. The server went to the kitchen and asked the cooks if we could order the Lobster for lunch. She came out and said "yes, you can order whatever you'd like") My sister was also joining us, so all 3 of us enjoyed a yummy Lobster lunch! My sister in law was visiting from North Carolina, and loved it! A friend took me back in May for my birthday dinner..........guess what I ordered? She ordered it too and said "OMG! this is to die for!🦞🥔👍♥️“

“Definitely the best spot for fresh seafood if you’re in the Downey/South Gate area and surrounding cities. I was looking for some shrimp for some aguachiles to make at home and came across this place on Google. I stopped by and took a box of their 13/15 shrimp. Very fresh shrimp, it was already peeled and deveined, perfect for the aguachiles! They also had all the vegetables needed to make my aguachiles so that saved me a trip to the supermarket, also very fresh vegetables! I grabbed a special they have going of 2 mojarras and a pound of shrimp al mojo de ajo to try out their food at home and everything was delicious! Very fresh shrimp with great quality taste and their food was delicious..I’ll be back soon for more!“

“We love this place! We come every time we’re in California. I love Mariscos so this place is for me. Their agua chile is delicious, enough shrimp and octopus to fill you up! Not to mention to mention the avacado it is top tier as you can tell in the pictures. We also had the OC tostada it is very good there is no spice on this one which was perfect for our little one. They do have condiments; tapatillo, vanentino etc that you can add. The guy in the truck was super nice, even gave us some stickers. Parking lot is huge and free so plenty of parking.“
