“We came here to celebrate mother’s days. Their food is very good. Service is a hit or miss. Their portions are getting a little bit smaller but the food is still very good. We usually order: shrimp with walnut, Crispy fried Chicken with Shrimp Chips, peasprouts & garlic, sweet and sour fish, broccoli mushroom and beef (yummy), and a claypot with eggplant. I would definitely come back .“

“My go to location to have Porridge. We order: minced pork & preserved egg porridge, roasted duck, roast pork, bbq pork and the Pan fried rice noodle with XO sauce. Their porridge is a little bit watery which I like while my husband likes his a bit thicker. But my favorite is the roast duck, and bbq pork over rice. They give you a lot of rice with it. My comfort food and it’s reasonably too .“

“Reservations are really hard to get, ended up going at Monday 10pm for a party of 3. It was definitely good, but maybe a bit over hyped. Portions were small but flavor was good. Black pepper steak was delicious, but the drinks were what really stood out. We got the Osthmanthus Lemon and the Chinese Almond Milk high balls and they were some of the best cocktails I've ever tried. Good service and really nice vibe. 4 stars for the difficulty getting in and value.“

“We were just walking around and looking for a good place to eat. Stumbled upon this spot. Don't be fooled by the handful of people eating during the mid afternoon time this place was fire! Their food was really good. Bit pricey compared to your regular Chinese food spot. But man it was worth it.
Kid-friendliness: Their staff was very patient with our toddler.“

“Seating is very limited. A few tables for two and a few tables for four. When I went, it was fully seated with about 26 dining inside. The price is reasonable but there's an additional charge for the credit card if the bill is below 20. And you won't get a receipt paying cash. Food tastes okay but because it's so close, maybe the closest, to the union square, this place never lacks customers.“

“erm….
the bowls and plates were all paper… The clay pot rice dish tasted a little funky. It wasn’t bad, but something I could make at home (a little better lol). at least it wasn’t too expensive. The basic veggie dish was great tho!“

“Just found out about this place, and was hosted by the very pleasant and talented cook, Ms Su. The flavor of her dishes is so authentic. Not greasy and reminds me of a home cook meal from Guangdong province. She just opened dine in 3 months ago and like all restaurants struggling w staff. This is a place where you literally take yourself above the bustling sidewalk, enjoy the fragrant jasmine tea and wait for Ms Su’s handiwork. We had a small meal after a party and everything hit the spot: the rich soupy XLB, fluffy BBQ pork buns and the wonton in chili sauce w a bit of sweetness. I even bottle the sauce home. Will definitely return to support this mother-daughter business.“
“Delicious Dim Sum, you got something goingYou're a hidden gem in China town that's worth knowingYou're dim sum delight are very tastyAnd your food is all ready and so come here if you're hastyDim Sum here is CHEAP!!! I can get full off of $5 if you choose right. Their Shu mei (pork stemmed thingies), Ha gow (Shrimp dumplings), and their steamed lotus leaf with sticky rice and meat (the one without the cords) is great! Not sure why this place has two dollar signs as it's CHEAP and good. Worth the trek from all the way from SOMA.“

“Street parking can be hard but we were lucky to find one not too far away.
It was busy on a Saturday evening with what seems like a lot of regulars. We were a party of 5 and they sat us at a table for 4 and added a chair on the end. Once we ordered, they moved us to a big table. We ordered way too much for 5 people. Ending up taking a lot home.
Everything was very good. Except the veggie was a little too tough/mature. And the mixed mushroom with egg tofu was not mixed mushroom but only one type of mushroom. The egg tofu was very good with the broccoli.
The bbq pork with chicken appetizer was good too. The bbq pork was so juicy and flavorful.
Portions here are very big and prices are reasonable.“

“We ordered the Iced Lemon Honey Tea and the Vegetarian Dumplings. The tea was absolutely delicious. It was so refreshing. The vegetarian dumplings were so beautiful and tasted amazing. It was so fascinating that when you bit into them, you could taste each individual ingredient as if it was freshly placed on your plate while also complimenting the dumpling shell. We drove from the coast, closer to San Diego to visit for an impromptu adventure. The ambience was clean and welcoming. They were incredibly kind and quick to assist when we needed it. We are so thankful to them for sharing their dumplings.“

“Stumbled upon this place while I was walking through Chinatown for the first time. Speaking as a connoisseur of 燒肉 Siu Yuk from Hong Kong, the crispy roast pork here is delicious, very authentic and can rival the best of Hong Kong. Before my visit, I got a turkey sandwich and a bottle of Mountain Dew for 8 bucks, then came to Chinatown and bought the box of fried rice + Siu Yuk + tofu in the photo for $10. The portion was so big I couldn't even finish it. Great value for money 👍 The staff are friendly and can speak Cantonese.“

“Hands down my fav dim sum place by far. Point and choose. Just about every type of dumpling you can think of. Always a line. And such a good prices. Cash only. Most people take it to go. But you can sit on basic tables with bare minimum for ambiance. Still a winner no matter what you choose.“

“We were a party of six, and all six of us found the food to be excellent. We ordered a 6-dish special meal that included a steamed fish fillet. I don't think it was a fresh fish, but it was large and plenty good. We were able to pick garlic noodles, which is one of my favorites, as one of our 6 dishes.“

“Came here two days in a row for a few items to have as breakfast, great pricing and the lady was very helpful. There is a bit of waiting in the morning on certain items but I believe it was worth waiting. Also there’s one medium size table to be able to dine in but other than that it’s mostly take out.“

“All the food is fresh, and choosing what's in season makes it even tastier. For larger groups, the big round tables come with the added bonus of individual hot pots built right into the table. It's easier to order dishes when you have a bigger group here ( 3+ people)“

“Amazing Tai Shan restaurant!!! Recommendations:
1. Taishan beef bone soup (we also were told coconut chicken soup is their specialty) - this wasn’t salty, perfectly herbed, so yummmmmmyv
2. yellow eel clay pot rice - fresh water eels!
3. pork noodle roll - house made!
4. purple potatoes sesame balls - rare find usually it’s red bean
They said all dim sum is made in site and they use free range chicken - don’t get preserved pork cake
There as only 1 waitresss who was also the host and cashier. She was amazing and kind - management should hire at least 1 more person
And of course this place has less stars cuz it doesn’t cater to westerners but their is the obligatory kung pao plate but just ignore that. All the surrounding restaurants have tourists whereas this one is filled with Taishan people.“

“We had a great experience here! It was our first time having dim sum. We were visiting from out of town and enjoyed this restaurant because we could make a reservation for six before coming to town. It was hard to find a place to enjoy doing some and be able to make a reservation also. I did have to call to make the reservation but it was easy to do. I was a little disappointed that they didn't have egg tarts in the evening because that was something I really wanted to try. But everything else on the menu that we tried was very good. The service was great!“

“I personally don’t think the barbecued pork bun is particularly delicious, but overall it’s okay. I don’t know why there are so many people queuing up 😂 Maybe it’s because the price is very cheap. A barbecued pork bun only costs two yuan.“

“When we arrived in San Francisco, we stayed near Union Square, and Chinatowm was pretty close by. We couldn't pass up the opportunity to eat in the largest Chinatown in the United States, so we went with the recommendation provided to us....the Great Eastern Restaurant.
When we arrived at the restaurant, we were seated downstairs, and this restaurant had a classic Cantonese setting with white table cloths and a vintage decor.
We had Kong Pau Chicken, Sautéed Beef with string beans, and Fried Rice all served with Green Tea. The Kong Pau Chicken was sweet and spicy, the Sautéed Beef was tender, and the Fried Rice had a good balance of eggs and scallions. The prices were reasonable, the portions were generous, and the service was quick. This was actually my first time eating in a Chinese restaurant (as I would usually get take out), and the Great Eastern Restaurant left a great impression.
If you are visiting San Francisco's Chinatown, this is a great place to stop for a hearty meal.“

“Cash only place that has amazing pork liver stir fry. Perfect texture and taste. The wontons are good, and so are the noodles, but the broth is bland. Does not have any of the taste of the iconic fish umaminess. I’d go for a mix between the beef brisket and an order of pig liver.“

“Cheap, big portions, good flavors. Recommend the spare ribs over rice, shrimp dumplings, and fried shrimp ball. A “cafeteria” style restaurant, that was very full when we went. May have to wait for tea and table cleaning, but food came out really fast.“

“Every time I stop by this place,I pick up 1 or 2 of their baked char siu bao. I usually finish them before I can walk 2 or 3 blocks away but hey they're meant to be enjoyed. It's not a typical char siu bao because this one has a sweet soft white crust on top that's almost reminiscent of a pineapple buns top. It costs $2 each and it's worth a try if you want to experience a variant on the char siu bao.
The ladies working there are friendly and efficient. It's a small shop so it's best as a grab and go place.“

“It’s called Happy Bakery but it’s mostly Dim Sum and food to go. I don’t eat much veggies but they have the best string bean chicken with tofu. This is a must-try! Dim Sum on the other side is also good with their Siopao & Sesame Balls. An order of combination over rice was only $6 but I guess inflation got in the way. Still worth coming for those string bean! 😋😋“

“Had a lovely dinner here with my family—food and service were both great! Very solid dishes all around, but what really got me were the sweet and sour pork (which had a really good meat to batter ratio), taro sago (the best I’ve had in soo long!! Generous portions of taro in each bowl) and to my surprise the Chinese donuts (which I usually don’t like, but they were so soft, light and tasty).
I’m already looking forward to the next time my family gathers here for dinner :)“
