“We came here to celebrate mother’s days. Their food is very good. Service is a hit or miss. Their portions are getting a little bit smaller but the food is still very good. We usually order: shrimp with walnut, Crispy fried Chicken with Shrimp Chips, peasprouts & garlic, sweet and sour fish, broccoli mushroom and beef (yummy), and a claypot with eggplant. I would definitely come back .“

“My go to location to have Porridge. We order: minced pork & preserved egg porridge, roasted duck, roast pork, bbq pork and the Pan fried rice noodle with XO sauce. Their porridge is a little bit watery which I like while my husband likes his a bit thicker. But my favorite is the roast duck, and bbq pork over rice. They give you a lot of rice with it. My comfort food and it’s reasonably too .“

“We made reservations for 10pm on Saturday (that was the only time available) so we attempted to walk in the night before around 6pm and they said it would be a 1.5 hour wait. So definitely make a reservation! We really enjoyed our dinner here. They start you with free peanuts and cucumbers which was a nice touch. We ordered the fragrant fish eggplant, lamb skewer, mapo spaghetti, deep fried squab, and escargot with milk bread. I would personally skip the lamb skewer and mapo spaghetti next time, they didn’t wow me. The rest of the food was absolutely delicious. The squab had super crispy skin and very tender meat. The escargot was in a delicious spicy garlicky oil which was perfect to soak in the milk bread. The eggplant was buttery and yummy. We ended our meal with the mango pudding which was served with a really nice guava sorbet. Overall we had a wonderful experience even though we were worried the place might be overhyped. I think it deserves the hype. The service was excellent also. Just be aware that the place is quite crammed and loud, but I do think that’s the HK vibe they’re going for. If they’re looking to improve anything, I’d recommend better ventilation in the kitchen so the smoke doesn’t travel to the dining area :)“

“I found the restaurant by accident. The hostess Gloria was very kind. Same with all the staff of the restaurant. The food was delicious and the space is very confortable.
Ay the end they gave me my fortune cookie and ice cream...
Totally recommended.“

“Very attentive and friendly staff. Atmosphere was quaint. Expected food to come out consistently together for group so that everyone could select their entrees and also eat the chow mein and/or rice with the meats and veggie options we selected. Would recommend the Mongolian beef and vegetable egg rolls!“

“Seating is very limited. A few tables for two and a few tables for four. When I went, it was fully seated with about 26 dining inside. The price is reasonable but there's an additional charge for the credit card if the bill is below 20. And you won't get a receipt paying cash. Food tastes okay but because it's so close, maybe the closest, to the union square, this place never lacks customers.“

“Delicious Dim Sum, you got something goingYou're a hidden gem in China town that's worth knowingYou're dim sum delight are very tastyAnd your food is all ready and so come here if you're hastyDim Sum here is CHEAP!!! I can get full off of $5 if you choose right. Their Shu mei (pork stemmed thingies), Ha gow (Shrimp dumplings), and their steamed lotus leaf with sticky rice and meat (the one without the cords) is great! Not sure why this place has two dollar signs as it's CHEAP and good. Worth the trek from all the way from SOMA.“

“Nostalgic and authentic! Really filled my claypot craving, and will return for some traditional canto herbal soups. They had plenty of soups on the menu that my mom made for me growing up. Pretty quiet on a Thursday night. Many Chinese elders were in to enjoy dinner, which is a great sign on the food quality.
We enjoyed the yellow eel and Chinese sausage pot and the sausage, duck, preserved meats, and fish fillet pot. One claypot was crispier than the other and had more rice crust. The restaurant gave us complimentary soups which I enjoyed a lot. I think there is either a secret menu or just on request to order sautéed veggie greens because some tables around us ordered different plates of greens but I didn't see it on the menu. Lots of traditional Chinese desserts on the menu which were tempting, but we were too stuffed to order any dessert. Good spot!“

“the Spicy shredded chicken was delicious, as was the bok-choy and side of beef broth i ordered! Made some rice at home and picked up my food from Do Eat before they closed for the evening. great food and made for a very full and satisfying dinner!“

“I had the signature wun-tun noodle soup, which was quite enjoyable. The flavours were accurate, and the wontons were large. The noodles were slightly on the firmer side, but not unusual for the type of noodle. No complaints about my experience here“

“We were a party of six, and all six of us found the food to be excellent. We ordered a 6-dish special meal that included a steamed fish fillet. I don't think it was a fresh fish, but it was large and plenty good. We were able to pick garlic noodles, which is one of my favorites, as one of our 6 dishes.“

“Street parking can be hard but we were lucky to find one not too far away.
It was busy on a Saturday evening with what seems like a lot of regulars. We were a party of 5 and they sat us at a table for 4 and added a chair on the end. Once we ordered, they moved us to a big table. We ordered way too much for 5 people. Ending up taking a lot home.
Everything was very good. Except the veggie was a little too tough/mature. And the mixed mushroom with egg tofu was not mixed mushroom but only one type of mushroom. The egg tofu was very good with the broccoli.
The bbq pork with chicken appetizer was good too. The bbq pork was so juicy and flavorful.
Portions here are very big and prices are reasonable.“

“Hands down my fav dim sum place by far. Point and choose. Just about every type of dumpling you can think of. Always a line. And such a good prices. Cash only. Most people take it to go. But you can sit on basic tables with bare minimum for ambiance. Still a winner no matter what you choose.“

“Stumbled upon this place while I was walking through Chinatown for the first time. Speaking as a connoisseur of 燒肉 Siu Yuk from Hong Kong, the crispy roast pork here is delicious, very authentic and can rival the best of Hong Kong. Before my visit, I got a turkey sandwich and a bottle of Mountain Dew for 8 bucks, then came to Chinatown and bought the box of fried rice + Siu Yuk + tofu in the photo for $10. The portion was so big I couldn't even finish it. Great value for money 👍 The staff are friendly and can speak Cantonese.“

“All the food is fresh, and choosing what's in season makes it even tastier. For larger groups, the big round tables come with the added bonus of individual hot pots built right into the table. It's easier to order dishes when you have a bigger group here ( 3+ people)“

“Came here two days in a row for a few items to have as breakfast, great pricing and the lady was very helpful. There is a bit of waiting in the morning on certain items but I believe it was worth waiting. Also there’s one medium size table to be able to dine in but other than that it’s mostly take out.“

“We had a great experience here! It was our first time having dim sum. We were visiting from out of town and enjoyed this restaurant because we could make a reservation for six before coming to town. It was hard to find a place to enjoy doing some and be able to make a reservation also. I did have to call to make the reservation but it was easy to do. I was a little disappointed that they didn't have egg tarts in the evening because that was something I really wanted to try. But everything else on the menu that we tried was very good. The service was great!“

“I personally don’t think the barbecued pork bun is particularly delicious, but overall it’s okay. I don’t know why there are so many people queuing up 😂 Maybe it’s because the price is very cheap. A barbecued pork bun only costs two yuan.“

“One of the best dim sum place on the peninsula. And also has a great view of the plane take off and landing.
Their lunch dimsum is very crowded so either go there early before 11:00 or after 1:00 p.m.
Since they remove the outdoor dining, they now direct overflow to the next door hotpot place, which also serve dim sums during lunch hour.
They also have good dinner banquet menu that are reasonably priced, especially there holiday dinner banquet menu.
But I always prefer banquet menus that are Tailor to our favorite dishes. Yes it will be more expensive than their set menu but at least all the dishes we will enjoy.“

“Authentic chinese food from the taishan region. If you’re looking for orange chicken, maybe keep scrolling. And the “bad service” honestly is just the charm of authentic asian dining (although still p good imo) and you know you’re here for the flavors and not for the hand-holding.“

“When we arrived in San Francisco, we stayed near Union Square, and Chinatowm was pretty close by. We couldn't pass up the opportunity to eat in the largest Chinatown in the United States, so we went with the recommendation provided to us....the Great Eastern Restaurant.
When we arrived at the restaurant, we were seated downstairs, and this restaurant had a classic Cantonese setting with white table cloths and a vintage decor.
We had Kong Pau Chicken, Sautéed Beef with string beans, and Fried Rice all served with Green Tea. The Kong Pau Chicken was sweet and spicy, the Sautéed Beef was tender, and the Fried Rice had a good balance of eggs and scallions. The prices were reasonable, the portions were generous, and the service was quick. This was actually my first time eating in a Chinese restaurant (as I would usually get take out), and the Great Eastern Restaurant left a great impression.
If you are visiting San Francisco's Chinatown, this is a great place to stop for a hearty meal.“

“Cheap, big portions, good flavors. Recommend the spare ribs over rice, shrimp dumplings, and fried shrimp ball. A “cafeteria” style restaurant, that was very full when we went. May have to wait for tea and table cleaning, but food came out really fast.“

“Cash only place that has amazing pork liver stir fry. Perfect texture and taste. The wontons are good, and so are the noodles, but the broth is bland. Does not have any of the taste of the iconic fish umaminess. I’d go for a mix between the beef brisket and an order of pig liver.“

“Every time I stop by this place,I pick up 1 or 2 of their baked char siu bao. I usually finish them before I can walk 2 or 3 blocks away but hey they're meant to be enjoyed. It's not a typical char siu bao because this one has a sweet soft white crust on top that's almost reminiscent of a pineapple buns top. It costs $2 each and it's worth a try if you want to experience a variant on the char siu bao.
The ladies working there are friendly and efficient. It's a small shop so it's best as a grab and go place.“

“It’s called Happy Bakery but it’s mostly Dim Sum and food to go. I don’t eat much veggies but they have the best string bean chicken with tofu. This is a must-try! Dim Sum on the other side is also good with their Siopao & Sesame Balls. An order of combination over rice was only $6 but I guess inflation got in the way. Still worth coming for those string bean! 😋😋“

“Had a lovely dinner here with my family—food and service were both great! Very solid dishes all around, but what really got me were the sweet and sour pork (which had a really good meat to batter ratio), taro sago (the best I’ve had in soo long!! Generous portions of taro in each bowl) and to my surprise the Chinese donuts (which I usually don’t like, but they were so soft, light and tasty).
I’m already looking forward to the next time my family gathers here for dinner :)“
