“This is by far the cleanest Subway I have ever been to. The whole place was great. The service was excellent. You can taste the freshly sliced meats. Veggies all fresh and crisp. Bread delicious. I wish I had gotten the names of the two ladies that made our sandwiches. We were there 10/24 in the afternoon. A third lady was cleaning the slicer while we were there.

Vegetarian options: So many options for veggies here than at their competitor. Spinach, cucumbers, olives to name a few.

My wife and I were heading to Santa Monica ( 152 miles from Solana Beach ) for a weekend getaway on Friday and needed a planned lunch stop on the way. Last year when I renewed my Australian passport at the Australian Consulate-General in L.A my wife jumped online and found a Lokal Sandwich Shop on National Blvd close by for our lunch break. The sandwiches, drinks and service were excellent at that location and we expected the same here. Considering we were heading towards L.A on a busy Friday we made great time. We parked in the private carpark and walked in about 12.30pm. It was bright and cheery inside just like the other location we visited. A sweet young lady named Emily greeted us straight off. First up we both had to hit the restrooms ( nice & clean ) after our non-stop drive from Solana Beach. NO PROB ! And then we sat at a table ready to select our lunch order. At the service counter we ordered 1 x ICED LATTE, 1 x THAI ICED TEA, 1 X BBQ PORK BANH MI ( cucumber, jalapeño, mayo, housed pickled daikon & carrots, cilantro on a baguette ) and 1 X THE CUBANO ( Ham, shredded pork, pickled cucumber, swiss cheese, mayo, dijon mustard on toasted rustic sourdough ). BONUS BONUS BONUS...when I checked in on YELP I got an offer for 20% off our first visit. I TOOK IT ! So far so good...very friendly service from Emily the cashier and WE LIKED THE VIBE....an intangible thing that you feel. Our iced drinks were ready in next to no time and tasted very refreshing. I haven't savored a BBQ Pork Banh Mi since last year ( at a Lokal Sandwich Shop ) and this one did not disappoint...hitting all the right fresh and healthy notes. My wife went nuts over The Cubano...quite a large fully loaded sandwich. It wasn't real busy at that time of day so we took our time enjoying our delicious lunch. I noticed that they had craft beer on tap...I didn't see that at the location we visited last year. I asked Vanessa behind the counter....why is this location called Lokal Sandwich + Burger Bar instead off Lokal sandwich Shop ? And Vanessa replied...because this location sells beer. OK ! We really enjoyed everything we ordered here and had a relaxing break from driving. HIGHLY RECOMMEND !“

“Was it the first-time-fluke?

This place makes one of the most interesting flavor combos that does not make sandwiches boring. Love the saffron mayo.

When we came for the first time— they were out of focaccia breads and we had the WLF on baguette— it was fantastic. With the fried shallot, the flavors were well-balanced and found them different than other places.

We came back with the good memories and came back for the second time. The flavors inside of the bread were the same, but the bread— the original recipe— did not find the flavor balance and just sour throughout.

We learned that the original recipe isn’t good, but they don’t offer bread substitution (at least online). Tasting in a way could be just us, but not offering an option is not great. Happily willing to try again.“

“This restaurant is THE ONE. Food is so good that it would make a picky eater apologize. Atmosphere? Immaculate. And Juliana, one of the managers? Absolute legend. She always greets customers with a smile and makes sure everything is going great. Customer service would make a five-star hotel take notes. The food really is excellent and the place is cleaner than my plate after I’m done eating there. This was my first time at this location and it is definitely my favorite now! I was immediately greeted by Cynthia who was very helpful with the menu. The girl Sophia who brought my food over offered to grab things for me like napkins and a container to go so I didn't have to move an inch! “This place is a hidden gem. The Philly cheesesteak with fries/drink combo is one of my favorite lunches on the westside. Plenty of well seasoned meat & veggies, and the option to add lettuce/tomato/mayo - which I do. And the sandwich is very neatly wrapped in paper and cut in half - making it easy to eat. The crinkle cut fries are always perfectly cooked - with a crisp outside, but still fluffy inside, and then enhanced with seasoning (Lawry’s maybe?). Plus self-serve Coke fountain beverages (a sign says only 1 refill, but they don’t seem to be stingy with this).

They also have teriyaki bowls and burgers - but I haven’t tried those yet.

They have a GREAT selection of bottled & canned sodas/drinks, including Jarritos, Jones, Boylan, and Snapple - big winners!

The inside is dated and worn…and it’s perfect!
It’s been here since 1957, and appears to be family owned & operated.

One of the few places open in the morning for breakfast. Ordered a 6 inch philly sandwich which was delicious and filling to start the day! The salads and meat were fresh just like how we want it.

“If there’s one place known for Vietnamese coffee, it’s this one. That sweet, creamy, ice-cold brew will keep you wired longer than any energy drink. It’s strong, but in the best way. Don’t even bother asking for less ice because the drink is meant to be diluted. Without it, the coffee is way too concentrated (even their bottled version at Costco says to mix it with ice or water!).

As for the food, their banh mi are always solid. Fresh, flavorful, and satisfying. Prices have crept up over the years, but that’s pretty much everywhere now. Still worth the visit.“
