So, I love ice cream. Who doesn't? But, if I'm honest, places like Coldstone and Baskin Robbins are overly sweet and overpriced. There's always Ampersand, which has solid taste and consistency, but the bougie flavors and bougie prices just aren't my bag.

Enter Handel's.

I didn't even know they existed until a few hours ago, but after reading other reviews, we decided to give it a shot. Upon arriving, we almost decided to move along because the line was clear out the door. But, we decided to give it a try anyway, and I'm glad we did! The line moved fast and our ice cream was in hand in less than 10 minutes from line to counter.

I got a SMALL waffle bowl which was 3 and a half scoops of ice cream. I could only eat about a quarter of it. I tried Ooooh Dough, which was their homemade vanilla ice cream with oreos and cookie dough bites. It was perfect. Creamy and smooth, flavorful, and not overly sweet. My husband tried the Peanut Butter Fudge Brownie, and my kids had the Orange Creamsicle and Cotton Candy. Since it was Mother's Day (and likely why they were so busy), I made sure to take my mom-tax and tried everyone's flavors. They were all very good.

Prices were totally reasonable compared to a lot of other ice cream shops, and the portions were beyond generous.

I love the history of this place, too. Looked it up and it started as a small homemade ice cream shop that operated out of a gas station in 1945. Family operated for 40 years until it was franchised in 1985. There are now 150 locations in 15 states, and Fresno is lucky to have one right here. There's another location down the way in Visalia.

To me, this spot was the perfect blend of gourmet ice cream and homemade nostalgia.
If you haven't tried it yet, its definitely worth a visit.“

While waiting for my food they served to other guests soft serve that had to have been a foot tall above the cone itself!!! “05/11/22 - Stopped here for dessert with a friend.The staff was very kind and patient with us as we figured out what we wanted.It's fairly straightforward, you grab a cup, then proceed to pick out whatever Yogurt you want from the yogurt dispenser (yogurt dispenser...I never that thought those two words would go together in a sentence so well). Next you'll choose whatever toping you like. There was about 10-13 flavors to choose from as far as yogurt when we were here, ranging from Chocolate milk to Blueberry. There was also about two dozen toppings from crushed Kit Kat to almonds and m&ms.You pay by weight, so technically the only limit to how many toppings you can get is the size of the cup and your ability to pay for it all.Overall, we were in and out fairly quickly and my combination turned out to be delicious.“

“This is not only the distribution center, but they sell the paletas here now too along with other frozen desserts, like mangoneadas. The area for this is small, but they do have tables outside if you want to eat your treat there. These paletas have been my favorite since I was a kid, so it's nice to visit and buy them directly. The person helping us was nice too.“
