This restaurant has been here since 1988 & is the definition of a hidden gem. They are tucked away in the hills of Hayward, but also close to Cal State East Bay.
I am a sucker for quick lunches. At China Best Restaurant, not only is it affordable, you get massive portions. Each meal is cooked to order so you’re getting steaming hot & homemade food. You should expect a ~15-20 minute wait for your food, but I promise it’s worth it!
Their menu is quite large, but very easy to read & makes sure that everyone has something to eat. I was excited to try their beef with bitter melon combo (comes with chow mein & steamed rice)! I chose the black bean sauce. The second day, I ordered the same combo, but asked them to sub the beef with chicken. They happily accommodated my request & quickly took my order over the phone.
I was not prepared for the amount of food that was piled into that takeout container— and for only $15 too! Each combo could easily be 2-2.5 meals.
Both days, the beef and the chicken were succulent but still had the right amount of chew. The bitter melon was cooked exactly how I like it, still had a nice crunch! The noodles were seasoned lightly, which was a nice change of flavor for typical Chinese restaurants where everything is overly salty!
They have plenty of seating if you’re looking to dine in rather than order takeout. The restaurant presents itself as a fairly standard place to eat because the food speaks for itself. No need for fancy decorations. I will say, the restaurant is very clean which I appreciate. Next time I’m around, I’ll dine in so I can try out a bowl of soup.
Make sure you ask for some chili oil, I’m not sure if it’s house made but it’s a nice Szechuan style chili oil and it goes so well with the chow mein!”

Finally, a Mexican restaurant that had what we loved at El Jardin's while I lived in Manteca ... The taste of Authentic Mexican Food !!!!! I love this little cozy spot. I have actually been here to eat by myself which I never ever do, have called in an order to go 15 minutes after they opened because sometimes, I just feel the need for some "Little Mexico's" Cheese Enchiladas with rice and beans. (best refried beans around) My BFF orders either the Chiles Verde or Chiles Relleno plate. Price friendly, clean, good service, awesome food. The parking area is a little challenging however, I'll wait for a spot, their food is well worth the wait in my opinion. Try this place and share your experience.”

“Backstory. My partner and I have been regular visitors or semi-regular visitors to the IHOP next door for over 20 years.
They must have been a lot of takeout because every time we went to IHOP there was hardly anybody in the Great River parking lot.
Well we decided this weekend to actually go and check it out and funny enough, quite a few cars in the parking lot.
We kept it simple because we really didn't feel like eating much. So we just got chicken and vegetables, and chop suey because it is pretty much all veggie, and a couple of bowls of rice.
Everything was nicely cooked, the chicken was tender. Very nice lady waiting on us Yes we will return because we always like to find a nice Chinese restaurant where we can just relax and chill out for a while. We used to have one of those in Fremont but it closed. Sad to say so. We've been on the hunt for a while. A good find.”

“This place is food truck located in the parking lot of the world liquor store. There is a sign on the corner. These guys came into my wife’s work at Buffalo Wild Wings and since then I said I had to try it. I have to say I was impressed. It’s very comparable to Dave’s hot chicken however, I think their chicken was more juicer and their french fries are very well seasoned and they give you a whole lot of them. I got their Medium level spice and it was just the right amount of heat. You have to put the honey on it with some extra sauce, it hits good with that combo. Plus the sauce is a good french fry dipper. Definitely want to try a spicier level next time the heat didn’t take away the flavor and I love that”

There's a lot of options for the sweet bread though, sometimes with jelly, some with a whole lot of sugar, which are my favorites. The staff don't walk around, you just order, they give you your bread and you're out. Easy, but if you order genuine food, it'll take around 7 minutes for them to serve a basic meal. They have a lot of options for a bakery. And their cakes look nice, I've never eaten one but they have some for display and they look pleasing. Overall, 4 for me, I love going there for either bread, food or ordering some bread to eat at home with things like beans.”

That's the way I like them . The burgers are generous for the lettuce and tomato and there are plenty of condiments. You can get sodas or shakes or both.
There are other locations around the East Bay, not as many as there used to, but they're all pretty much equally good including the two that are on MacArthur boulevard, one near High Street and one near fruitvale.
All in all, one of my go-to burger places.
Pro tip, have plenty of napkins ready or just bring your roll of paper towels that you keep in the car.”

We came here before 11am shortly after opening on a Sunday and there was no wait. We decided to try their entrees and skipped the dimsum.
The salted fish chicken eggplant claypot took a long time to come, it came at the end and the eggplants were burnt on the bottom and the skin was tough to chew. It was also submerged in a lot of oil but tastewise it was okay.
The satay beef chow fun was good, it was actually runny and not too salty. The pineapple was a nice touch, we just weren't a big fan of the red bellpeppers.
Japanese style beef cubes with fried silken tofu was really good, the sauce is slightly sweet and savory and not too salty. We really liked this one.
All 3 dishes were in the low $20s, and more than enough for 3 people. We had leftovers to go.
There is free dessert! Choice is mango pudding or grass jelly.”

We got seated. No water. No Chips and Salsa. We received menus and that was why it was empty. You're paying for everything at 25% to 45% more than before with many meals and all Combinations GONE. To get a Taco, an Enchilada with Rice and Beans was $38... That's INSANE... We walked out and sadly will never return... He's the same reason Buffalo Bills was a ghost town at 430pm on a Saturday. Went there the day before and it's the same - prices 25% to 50% higher. Out of 3 popular beers. No milk. Menu changes for the worse. There are other locations around the East Bay, not as many as there used to, but they're all pretty much equally good including the two that are on MacArthur boulevard, one near High Street and one near fruitvale.
All in all, one of my go-to burger places.
