“Update July 2026: docking a full star for the creepy AI answering system that pretended to not be AI with fake restaurant background noise even though it clearly answered slowly and with a delay. It then gave me the wrong info and asked if I wanted a menu sent to me. I said no, it did it anyways by the time the call hung up. I had checked that menu link before calling, it didn't answer my question. All I wanted to know was if there was still food happy hour specials in the summer (there aren't), and I had to physically go in person instead. I would've loved for this info to be on the website, wait staff does spend a lot of time on phone calls. Instead both our time got wasted because I no longer have a way to communicate with the restaurant without going in person. There are still lunch volley bowl deals.

2025: Fantastic view of the ocean and beach. Great specials at lunch and on weekdays. We actually were walking to the Tuesday burger special at Hennessey's Tavern, which we go to often. They caught our eye. This was a perfectly cooked juicy burger with great, strong seasoning and fresh toppings. We got a side of fries, which were delicious and crispy from the blisteringly hot first bite to the last cooled fry. We may have a new beach side burger Tuesday joint with a slightly improved view! It's a solid jump in quality for what you usually find in Hermosa, especially this close to the water.

Staff were friendly. I like the menu a bit more at the Redondo location but you can't beat the view and vibe at the beach. We'll be back to try the extensive drink menu“

“There's nothing I can say bad about this place I wish I could give the atmosphere a five star but I also love the fact that it's super casual and more relaxed. As far as the food I would drive from Beverly Hills just to get their bowls. It deserves a five-star. Everything went incredibly smooth and the staff were incredibly professional. I could go on and on about the quality of the food but I haven't had every dish. The one dish I had the bulgogi with rice was done to perfection. The rice was correctly made as can be. And the flavor from the bulgogi was not overly sweet and left a great aftertaste. Couldn't recommend it enough. If you're ever in the neighborhood pick some up you'll be happy you did.“

“Ko Ryo Jung Restaurant is one of my favorite spots for Korean BBQ! The AYCE is very affordable, and the quality of the meat is surprisingly good for the price. Everything tasted fresh and well-marinated, and there were plenty of options to choose from.

The servers are friendly, attentive, and quick to change the grill and bring refills. The whole experience felt welcoming and comfortable.

“I got the tasajo which was already good but omg the moronga was DELICIOUS. I am usually not a fan of blood sausages or blood related food but this was so smooth, tender, savory and flavorful. If I didn’t already know it was a blood sausage I would have never guessed. The serving is huge if you eat standard servings you could easily split a portion but we got greedy.

Highly recommended just for the fact that they changed my mind about blood sausage.

“I visited this restaurant with my date for dinner, and we were welcomed with a pleasant attitude and seated immediately. The atmosphere was nice and inviting. We were fortunate that there weren’t many guests that evening, which made the experience very peaceful and enjoyable.

We started with two Asahi beers while deciding what to order. We chose the A5 Wagyu Set, which included tongue, ribeye, short rib, chuck flap, and tenderloin. The set also came with a salad, kimchi, and bean sprouts, and we ordered a few bowls of rice on the side.

Our server was very friendly and even gave us helpful tips on which cuts of meat to start with. Although there was a button at the table to call for service, she would occasionally check in on us to see if we needed anything or were enjoying our meal, which we truly appreciated.

All of the meats were phenomenal, and the portion size was very satisfying for both of us. To end the evening, we ordered Wagyu sushi—one piece served raw and the other cooked—and both were absolutely delicious.“

“Sakura House is one of the best kept secrets in Los Angeles. A tiny little spot tucked away in the corner of a strip center, you would never guess how special a hideaway, and how delicious the food is! I have been going there for years because the yakitori skewers and other dishes are consistently delicious and very satisfying. If I’m going to order something unfamiliar, it’s always a happy adventure. The service is excellent also. What’s great about this place is, it’s not the “place to be seen“ with people looking down their noses at you.
Instead, it’s a welcoming and casual secret refuge from all that, with excellent food and fair prices, and so comforting it will keep you coming back.“

“I took the risk yesterday and went to pop-up BBQ joint APL. They were working out of a restaurant in Marina Del Rey, so I thought reluctantly to give them a shot. I knew they were expensive and likely not the “traditional” BBQ quality that I grew up with in L.A. I’d seen on social media that APL Barbecue almost always sold out, so I arrived 2 hours early. No one was in sight. I thought I’d gone to the wrong location. I looked around and saw 5 large pallets of fire wood stacked up in the rear of the building. Had to be for the smokers I thought. This must be the right place. I was just super early. About 30 minutes later I noticed 4 pillars of smoke coming up from behind the hedges in the patio area. I failed to look there before and walked over to find 4 large BBQ smokers at work. They were being attended by an African American gentleman. He seemed to know what he was doing. I started feeling a bit better on the potential quality of APL’s BBQ upon seeing this brutha handling the cooking. This was my opportunity to maybe find out the truth about APL’s suitability to my discerning taste buds. I walked over to him and said, “Bruh, lemme holla at you a minute. I’m new to APL and want to get your read on the BBQ. You know that there’s a difference between what some people call good BBQ, and what you or me might consider good Q.” He gave me a wry smile and a knowing nod. I knew he understood what I was cryptically saying. He asked about my regional knowledge of BBQ, from which I explained my preferences for North Carolina, and Texas styles of Q. He said it was more like Texan BBQ, which happens to be my favorite. He said that APL was the “real deal”. I was feeling good and hungry now. They opened the doors at 12:30 pm. A kid started passing out cornbread samples. I happily took one. I’m as critical of the sides as I am with my Q. Cornbread is rarely great and mostly just ok of from most BBQ joints. I took a bite. It was moist and very good with a honey taste but not too sweet. Kind of a cornbread-cake combo. Another very good sign! When I got to the front of the order line, the Bruh offered me a sample of the pork ribs. I took a bite. It was spot on. Had a nice light tug but was very tender and easy to pull off the bone. I couldn’t ID the flavor profile, but liked it a lot. I ended up buying 1 beef rib bone, 1 rack of pork ribs, and some cornbread for a total cost of $150. More than enough for 2 people for a couple of days or so. The beef rib was the best I’d ever had. Tasted more like a very good brisket. The pickle relish was outstanding. I wish I could buy it in a store or better yet get the recipe. Needless to say as a BBQ skeptic and traditionalist, that APL is real and highly recommended even with their high prices. I’m told they will be back in MDR at the same spot next weekend. It’s located Washington Bl. & Abbot Kinney. Go on Sunday when they will also sell smoked cowboy ribeye steaks. I’m told the rack of lamb is also outstanding. Before I walked away with my heavy bag of Q, I saw the the brutha I’d spoken to earlier chopping up some meat. It was loud and crowded in the restaurant. I spoke loudly in a manner I knew would get his attention and said, “Bruh! You were right. Thanks!” He smiled and responded back with the “brutha nod”.“

The staff were incredibly attentive and A++ for the cleanliness of the restaurant. 😊 I really like that most of the common cookable meats are out on the salad bar as well as vegetables, appetizers, all the sauces, fruits 🤤 all readily available to everyone - so you can easily get more. 😉 I highly recommend trying the beef belly, beef rib finger and marinated short ribs each cut was tender and flavorful. The cheesecorn, shrimp tempura, tofu soup and baked mussels were delicious side options and cooked to perfection. 😊💯“

“I’ve been coming to Yamaya for years, back when dinner was the reason to visit. The quality of the beef has always been solid and while I still think places like Manpuku are a little more memorable, Yamaya has never really disappointed me.

These days, though, it’s lunch that keeps bringing me back. In a city where fifteen dollars barely buys a sandwich, Yamaya somehow serves one of the best lunch specials in the South Bay. It isn’t trying to impress you with theatrics. It simply gets the fundamentals right.

The yakiniku is grilled just enough to pick up a little char without drowning in sauce. A few thicker pieces can be slightly chewy, but the flavor is consistently balanced. The salad is simple, the miso soup is comforting even if it’s usually closer to warm than hot and then there’s the rice.

The rice deserves its own paragraph. Perfectly cooked, unlimited refills and paired with unlimited mentaiko and house pickles, it’s the kind of combination that makes you slow down and wonder whether another bowl is really such a bad idea. It’s simple food executed with enough confidence that it doesn’t need to hide behind unnecessary complexity.

The service has been a little inconsistent over the years, but on this visit it reminded me why hospitality still matters. Our server was warm, attentive and genuinely welcoming without feeling rehearsed. The restaurant was calm, a Japanese family chatted quietly at the next table and for an hour lunch felt refreshingly unhurried.

Is this the best yakiniku I’ve ever had? No. Is it one of the best values I’ve found in Los Angeles? Absolutely.

Some restaurants chase spectacle. Yamaya earns repeat customers instead. That’s a much harder thing to build. One of the lunch deals I recommend most often in the South Bay.“
