“House of Joy has quickly become one of my favorite Chinese restaurants in the area. From the moment we walked in, the staff made us feel genuinely welcome — friendly smiles, fast seating, and attentive service throughout the meal. You can tell they truly care about their customers.

Every dish was packed with flavor and came out piping hot. The dim sum was especially impressive — fresh, perfectly cooked, and not greasy at all. The Peking duck and salt-and-pepper shrimp were standouts, but honestly, everything we tried was delicious. Portions are generous and prices are very fair for the quality you get.

What really sets House of Joy apart, though, is the level of service. Our tea cups were never empty, plates were cleared promptly, and the servers checked in just enough without ever being intrusive. It felt like dining at a place that truly values its guests.

Whether you’re coming for family dinner, a casual lunch, or a special occasion, House of Joy is a gem. Highly recommend — can’t wait to come back“

“Hidden gem fire a quick, affordable bite. Mushroom chicken-Big plump pieces of mushroom, snappy zucchini, crunchy, juicy, just-cooked sliced onion, nice raw onion flavor. Curry chicken- not over powering curry flavor, just an itty bitty kick, the potatoes are cooked all the way through and the carrots are soft and sweet which tells me this curry was left to simmer to meld all the flavors. Yes I came in very hungry but for a typical buffet-tray-under-a-lamp place, it is definitely better than average. A two item combo with plenty of chow mein with sliced cabbage was $10.50 before tax. I brought home a medium sized a la carte chicken with mushroom entree, less than $10 with tax. Bring cash if you can, $15 minimum for card purchase. Oh, and the owners were not only super nice but they seemed really grateful for each customer.“

“Ate dine in at this little hole-in-the-wall joint on a recent visit to LA. Close (street) parking was a miracle, but theres also parking (and bathrooms) across the street at the El Super. Portions for a Boil Bag were generous, one corn, potato, rice and a few broccoli were included. All amenities were provided: table paper, bibs, sanitizer, bucket, gloves, scissors for crab legs. Cajun garlic butter seasoning was delicious, not too spicy for the kids. Speaking of kids, seafood boil keep kids remarkably entertained! This place deserves all the good reviews. Our only (small) complaint is the distance to a bathroom, but it's a small price to pay for a delicious meal.“

I am a music photographer who has traveled the world with the world's greatest musical talents (Michael Jackson, AC/DC, Rolling Stones, and Rammstein, to name a few) for almost 40 years. When being asked "Where do you live" I tended to ask "in hotels". At my peak, I "shot" 250 shows a year. Will say: been there, saw and tasted it, and a lot, as I may say, and much to the dismay of my doctor who is in my back to lose a few pounds. Quite a few, as I may add, which is why my wife and I walk ten thousand steps per day, where- and whenever we can - and explore a lot of new exciting places - places you may oversee when just driving by. While I love to share my experience with others, I am sometimes shocked at how people use their "power of the word" to down-rate amazing places because of minor incidents (in my all-time favorite​ restaurant Le Petit Four on Sunset Plaza the owner was even called a racist as he refused to toast the (free) bread in his packed restaurant - they simply do not offer toasted bread, as no French​ place does, as I may add). Or I just read "Chicken piccata so over-salted I hope the dog enjoys the leftovers tomorrow, I brought home most of the dish." Did they speak to their service? How could the restaurant learn that something was wrong when patrons even have their leftovers​ boxed to take home? As a dog owner,​ I want to take the writer and shake him or her really bad and say "You give over-salted food to your dog? Anyone with a bit of brain understands this is a horrible idea...​ I hope you agree.So If I had a say on this portal, I would offer just to see the ratings of my friends. So I would see what the ratings were by like-minded people. Sadly, I have no say. I try not to compare apples with oranges. A place like this does not correspond to "The Ritz". At first,​ I assume that a restaurant is clean, they do not greet you with a gun - and they deliver whatever they promise. I do not give stars for things that are expected. In my rating scheme, three or more stars are awarded if they actually exceed my expectations. Four, if I am sure I will come back. “Delicious Chinese food with unique menu items all delivered in a fantastic old school Hollywood atmosphere. From the pictures on the wall of the great stars of the past and the booths where Elvis Presley, Marilyn Monroe and Burt Reynolds hung out, you can feel the history and reminisce about the past. The boa, lettuce wraps, scallion pancakes, fried tofu, and chicken salad all were excellent choices. They also had great drink choices. The only downside was that parking was in a paid parking lot and the restaurant prices were very high.“

“A well-known Chinese restaurant with a good size menu. They also have a small Dim Sum selection. The restaurant is clean, the service is good and plenty of off-street parking. The food is well prepared and tasty. We had the pork fried rice and the orange chicken.

Parking: Approximately 20 spots of free off-street parking. Pull into the driveway and park behind the restaurant and you can enter the restaurant from the back door or the front door.“

“A great little gem. We stopped in for dinner - not especially hungry due to late lunch but knew we needed to eat something. We split the cucumber salad - so fresh and tasty, a little sweet, a little salty. It’s sold as a small appetizer but, easily splittable. Then pork potstickers and veggie pancakes - eight of each, so plenty to share and also very tasty. Definitely would go back. Friendly attentive service to round out a great find.“

“I love Coral Reef. They have amazing lunch specials! I paid $13.15 for tea, egg drop soup and a massive portion of steamed rice and a massive portion of chicken and broccoli. Service is extremely fast and there are always tables. The restaurant is very old school - the interior and itemized receipts are handwritten. My only complaint is I forgot to ask for an itemized receipt and they couldn’t email or text me a picture of it (for a work reimbursement). Still highly recommend. There’s a free two hour parking lot behind them as well.“

“We went here for the first time on New Years Eve. . . I noticed the atmosphere is not your typical chinese restaurant. . . we ordered the assorted app plate, tofu with black bean sauce, seafood plate and egg fu yung. . .
The apps were good. . and served as a pu pu platter setup. . I'm not sure if they know what that is out here, but it's very popular on the east coast. . .
The main dishes arrived. I was expecting something different, but was quite pleased with the food after all. The ingredients used are fresh veggies, broccoli, bok choi, etc. . . we ordered alot and ate alot. Me and my wife agreed it was a very healthy meal really. . . surprisingly so. . . I was a little let down by the tofu and black bean plate, but my wife was happy with it. . . a few veggies or something in there wouldn't go amiss. . anyway, we will return at a later date. “The food was delicious, the service excellent, the establishment was clean, portions generous, and cost affordable. We ordered chow mein, fish with black bean sauce, and Mongolian beef. It's not Chinese fast food, it's a sit down restaurant. Surprised it wasn't crowded as the food is delicious. The location is a little non-descript but street parking was easy. I live in Gardena and although there are several Chinese restaurants, none are good. This was a lucky find as restaurant reviews in general tend to result in a bad choice.“

“Very nice small restaurant selling specialty noodles and some side items. The potato noodles have a firmer texture, kinda like soba, the soup was delicious. Chicken bone was also very good. “This is my go-to spot for food after a trip. The last thing you want to do when you come home from traveling is cook and this restaurant always hits the spot! Lots of vegetables, large portions, fresh hot green tea and soup with each meal when you eat in. They have lunch and dinner combos, but honestly everything on their menu is awesome. My favorites include orange chicken, szechwan sliced bbq pork, mongolian beef, honey walnut shrimp and the dish I order every single time I go: buddha’s delight. It’s packed with various vegetables in a slightly sweet sauce that delivers the nutrients your body is craving.

They offer take out, but I suggest dining in to get the full experience. The walls are decorated with a mix of artwork and images of their food while a pop station plays in the background. You’ll sometimes find the kids doing homework at one of the tables during the week. They’re sustainability friendly too, so if you’d like them to package something up in your own container, they’re happy to do so. So grateful to have a traditional chinese restaurant that’s run by a family like this in the area.“

Service is friendly and nice but can be slow sometimes since our waitress was covering about 7-8 table with party of 4+. We’re the least of them all, only 3 people. But once you order, it takes awhile for each dish to come…our 1st dish took about 15-18mins then 5-8mins for next dish. For some reason, our beef chow fun took about 30mins to it to arrived. By then, we’re almost done with others…we tasted and have it to go. Also, I asked for chilli sauce to one of the helper, she told that I have to ask our waitress, which was taking order from 3 differ tables. By the time she came by, I requested plus ordered another cocktail, then she went on to take order to another table. Then 6mins later, I got the chilli. Foods wise, not bad at all, the frog legs while delish but doesn’t taste any lemongrass at all. The eggplants are quite unique and quite enjoyable. The chow fun and the sweet & sour pork are good and just nothing special about it. The drinks are the best from my pov. All meal was about $135 w/o tip total. Worth it? Somewhat, but I’m sure there are other dishes will be a delightful. Will come back if we’re in the area to give it another try.“
