“From the second we approached the door to enter Local Roots we could feel the positive energy. Very clean very welcoming very nice atmosphere. The menu is amazing and has so many wonderful choices. When talking to Lauren the owner, we were inspired by her vision and passion to provide the best of the best ingredients from all locally grown farms and resources. She is dedicated to support the local businesses and economy. Our salads and soups were delicious! I highly recommend Local Roots. We will be back over and over again. Thank you Lauren and thank you to your awesome team for providing great service.“

“Cacio e Pepe pizza was fantastic. so glad I went out of my comfort zone and tried it. Their pepperoni pizza was also awesome. This is no average pizza restaurant, this is a must place for pizza when in San Francisco! Cannot wait until I can get back and dine there again!! Cannot say enough about the quality of their pizza....“

“Delicious, robust and oversized salad (actually a good deal for the price), PLUS the staff couldn’t be nicer, especially front of house.
This is like a mini behind the scenes food hall, where you can order these gorgeous salads, or: soups; mezze dishes etc. It’s a fun and unique spot. So glad to have found this while visiting my hometown!“

“Likely the best value in the FiDi for a quick breakfast. I got the Huevos Rancheros ($8.95) add Bacon (+$3). I ordered it through Toast and picked it up. My coffee was made fresh when I got there so it would still be HOT!
The Huevos were delicious! Two eggs, both red and green salsa (one on each), black beans, and a bit of cheese. It was the perfect amount and was delicious. A hint of spice from the salsas, the eggs were well seasoned and the tortillas still crispy.
I'll be swinging by here more often than my usual bagel place in the future!“

“Total hidden gem in SF. It’s low key and does take out only, but don’t let that fool you, this place rivals SF’s finest establishments. I moved in a few blocks down the street and have been ordering take out almost every day as I unpack. I’ve tried the chicken hummus plate, meatball and rice plate, and the Beyran Soup. Literally each dish was 5/5 amazing. The soup was the best soup I’ve ever had in my life. Super rich flavor, but not overly salty. Just right. Honestly these folks should turn into a full fledged restaurant.“

“You will not beat MIXT. It is a Latina cult of salads. They have salads and warm bowls. I always get the Barbecue bowl when I can ever afford it and it's FIREEEEE. These places are organically sourced and not made up. Must try. Average $15 on every menu item.“
“Proper Food is a grab-and-go eatery located in the Financial District. It is targeted towards workers in the area as it is only open on weekdays during breakfast and lunch. They sell a lot of standard fare like sandwiches and salads, albeit with a gourmet slant. Was visiting my company's SF office, which was housed in the same building and got a light breakfast here. I can imagine this being a default spot if I was working there and needed to grab something quick to eat.“
“With 3 hours to kill, we set off for the food court recommended by a pilot we asked and looked at our options. We decided to "be healthy" after a 10-day cruise and were rewarded with amazing food! The Good Catch Vegan Manhattan Seafood Chowder and Tortilla soup were both amazing and the Cabo salad was hearty enough for us to share and not feel deprived in any way. Of course, we then justified a couple of chocolate chip cookies for dessert-LOL. I now hope we have a reason to get back there again.“

“Got the salmon delivered. With cous cous and spinach and holendaise. A bit pricey, but they are experts at prep, and cooking. Salmon was perfect. Honey ginger, without over powering each other or the salmon. Roasted pine nuts? Very very tasty and roasted to perfection. The holendaise was tart again exactly the way it should be. Exceptionally fresh, exceptionally executed. When in the city I will stop by and thank them. Now, of course I want to try everything else on their menu.“

“This place will forever be my favorite FiDi eatery. Everything is delicious and I've literally never had a bad meal here. It's consistently great every time. It's really tough for them because the neighborhood has changed so much since COVID and I'm sure it's a struggle because of the significantly reduced foot traffic, but they're always super friendly and service is fast. Don't ever change, Ayola!“

“Seafood Heaven!
Portofino Seafood Restaurant is a cozy spot on Grant Street in North Beach, San Francisco. With an old-fashioned charm, the menu is displayed on a hand-painted board instead of a website.
During our visit, owner Frankie Gaetano Balistreri greeted us warmly. Frankie and his wife run the restaurant, creating a friendly atmosphere that makes guests feel like family.
Our meal started with flavorful clam chowder, followed by a perfect beet salad. I had the Seafood Risotto with fresh seafood in tomato sauce, while my significant other enjoyed tender grilled halibut. Both dishes showcased the kitchen's skill.
We ended with a light tiramisu. Portofino excels among North Beach's Italian restaurants, especially for seafood lovers. Dishes like roasted sardines, sole almandine, and cioppino—a tangy tomato broth stew with shrimp, scallops, mussels, and squid—are standout options.
Frankie and his wife's passion for exceptional dining is evident, making Portofino a beloved spot in North Beach. It's the perfect place for a memorable meal in a warm, welcoming setting.“

“I had the Hot Mediterranean Bowl at Mixt in Mill Valley, and it was outstanding. The ingredients were incredibly fresh, the portion was generous, and the flavor was amazing. It felt like a super healthy meal that left me satisfied without any guilt afterward. Highly recommend if you’re looking for a clean, delicious option that doesn’t compromise on taste.“

“A “Must Stop” for lunch! The best sourdough bread I’ve ever had. Wanted to go back and just order a bunch of bread to take home and spoil the family. The perfect crispy crust and then soft chew center with lots of wonderful savory sourness. I had the Ham & Pastrami. Perfect fresh ingredients. Everything you want in a deli sandwich at a reasonable price. Lots of selections so I’m heading back for future yummy bites. Excellent personal service.“

“November 2025:
Came here for lunch and shared a clubber sandwich and the spicy tuna salad 🥗. Both were very tasty.
The clubber is a huge sandwich with lots of turkey, bacon on a soft ciabatta roll. Would definitely get this again.
Salad had a large variety of ingredients. Miso ginger vinaigrette dressing was excellent 👍. Tuna tartare was tasty 😋. Would also get this delicious salad again.
Also took the smores rice crispy snacks. They were a bit stale 😢. Would not get this again.
Overall, liked my sandwich and salad 🥗. Would come back for more delicious food.“

“This place is great! Was just looking for a quick bite to eat earlier this week and found this gem! Really delicious sandwiches (especially the california melt) and my second time coming in the owner remembered me already which was cool lol.
Highly recommend this spot and will be my go to stop when I'm in SF!“

“Great sandwiches. We love many of the specialty sandwiches and make your own options. The only problem is they don’t provide a ‘no meat’ option on build your own sandwich for vegetarians. 😀🙁“
“Absolutely love Better Than Sweet! Large portions and great prices. Lots of different smoothie, acai bowl, and food options. Very friendly staff, clean, and some nice seating inside and outside. “This is a good lunch spot for FiDi. Sandwiches are $12.50-$14. Salads are $10-$11. Prices on their website are outdated. My sandwich , the LLB special $12.50 was roast beef, turkey, ham, swiss, provolone on dutch crunch, was alright. The New England Clam Chowder $8.50 was chunky and not filled all the way up. That tasted OK as well. Friendly service for a counter style restaurant. Kitchen was fast taking account they were busy. I was pretty full afterwards.“

“Pizza with a little salty dough but it's not a problem because the rest is very tasty, neither high nor low, good mozzarella for the price, oregano not of high quality, the locals like it a lot, while an Italian might vaguely remember the frozen one but a little ' Better. I have to say that it remains good considering the place where it is located.
Ps
Coke on tap tastes like chlorine, I think it's better to use barrel water and not tap water.“

“On a road trip from the UK and found this unassuming cafe as we spent our first full day in SF. Very laid back and friendly with nice music playing. We were probably older than the average visitor (by quite a bit!) but loved it! Shared the 2x2x2 breakfast and a pot of black tea. Set us up for the rest of our walk towards GG Bridge. Loved that they ask you to wash your pots. Proper plates and utensils. Too much 'throwaway' going on generally compared to the UK. Thank you!“

“Always appreciate organic healthy vegan food that is delicious as well! If you're vegan, however, be constantly aware that they have dairy. The staff is quite knowledgeable, which helps, and always willing to ask the kitchen if they don't know. The metal chairs scraping on the concrete floors are ear piercing. Try to sit outside away from the noise.“

“I really enjoyed my salad that I just bought. It was delicious and filling. It also left me feeling very good after eating. But the girl who rang me up gave me a hard time because I was looking at the dates on the salads. As a paying customer isn't it my right to check the dates on the food I'm buying and putting into my body. Unfortunately, I will not be going back because of how I was treated by one person.“

“Food is pretty average. Not too many options nearby, so it does fulfill Thai food cravings once in a while. Little pricey for the quantity. The sauce in the pumpkin curry was way too watery! Would skip that dish! The price is certainly for the location, not for the food. For better quality and reasonable price a little drive south or even downtown San Rafael would be a better option.“
