“Was super happy with our dinner at Hippo. Every dish was delicious. The brussel sprouts and cauliflower starters had excellent flavors. All the pastas we tried had incredible depth of flavor without being overly heavy or greasy. The hippo rolls and table focaccia were excellent and the chicken thighs were to die for. Only thing that was lackluster was the passion fruit gelato. Fun vibe, lots of seating, and great service!“

“From the outside, The Airliner looks like a dive bar serving standard dive bar fare. But make no mistake, Chef Vinh Nguyen has created a stunning menu of excellent, creative, and absolutely delicious food!

We had a tasting for my daughter's wedding, and we were served such terrific items as Green Chop Salad (spicy thair dressing), Hunan BBQ pork ribs, Green Curry Crispy Rice, onion noodles, and tater tots with Gochujang glaze.

I forgot to take pictures, but everything looked as great as it tasted.

The next time we are in LA, we look forward to going there for dinner, and we couldn't be happier that Chef Nguyen will be catering our daughter's wedding!“

“This is one of those places where when no one knows what to do, come here. It never dissappoints. Came here late friday, had delicious drink that, although served in one of those fashionable tiny glasses, actually took me 30+ min to drink because it was hot and spicy in the best way-you actually HAD to sip it. Thank you, Wolves, for finally giving me a tiny glass cocktail I felt was worth the money. Oh, and what everyone else says about the ambiance-awesome-and you don't feel clausterphobic, even if it is busy because of the high ceilings.“

The food is consistently great, and what I really appreciate is that it doesn’t feel like your typical Hollywood scene. It’s relaxed, unpretentious, and welcoming. Owner Ben is often there, genuinely kind and always up for a friendly chat. You can tell he cares about the place and the people in it.“

“My friend told me this is a great neighborhood spot so I strolled over an hour before sunset.... I wanted to relax after a high-stimuli day of work and looked forward to winding down from work mode... Unbeknownst to me... a group of 30+ people came for a film networking event (!) a few minutes after I walked in. I had to leave much earlier than I wanted to b/c the atmosphere was not what I wanted or expected (but I am glad this film networking group was so well-attended - none of them knew each other!).

I had the chicken skewers - they were tasty!

Matt and Miguel were wonderful. Very friendly and attentive.

There are very cozy and comfy velvet couches... I look forward to coming come back with friends and/or a date :)“

We used to have a fire table like yours, so dining here always carries a sense of home. Last night we brought friends, and they said, ‘This makes it hard to go out to eat in Monrovia—our restaurants cut corners with cheap ingredients and fast turnover.’ What your chefs create is the opposite: dishes with not just incredible flavor but extraordinary texture and detail. Their expertise is off the charts, and I highly recommend.“

“I’ve been eating here through 3 ownerships since the 1970s. I really like the new menu, the outdoor eating area and the bar. The service isn’t 5 star but it’s good as it ever was and I’m fine with it. Unfortunately Ihad a very lousy customer service incident on the phone tonight after they botched my delivery order. I ordered grilled cheese sandwich and onion rings. Postmates delivered matzoball soup and rings. Johnny’s customer service lady (didn’t offer name) and the manager refused all responsibility for the wrong item they mispacked; she told me to take it up with Postmates. OK, but meanwhile can I get my sandwich that Johnny’s failed on? “Take it up with Postmates.” When I questioned that logic from a customer service perspective she said “you’re failing to understand!” and told me “don’t get an attitude with me!” I replied “an attitude with YOU?” and she hung up on me. Come on, Johnny’s, this whole thing started with your mistake. Accept responsibility and make it right. Don’t blame delivery. Just make it right.“

“Despite the sweltering 93-degree heat and the AC being out (which apparently happens often), Badmaash still managed to shine. It was honestly hotter inside than outside—I felt like I was melting! The heat made it tough to fully enjoy the atmosphere, but the food and service absolutely made up for it. Every dish was incredible—bold, flavorful, and memorable. The staff were so kind, attentive, and accommodating, even with the less-than-ideal conditions. This place is absolutely worth a visit, but I really hope they invest in some serious fans or a reliable AC solution soon!“

Great cocktails, stellar pre-order food options (you can order there but for bigger groups it's worth pre-ordering), the bowling was a super fun activity to keep people entertained, and all of the servers were very attentive and friendly. Whether you're looking to host a party or just a fun night out with friends, Spare Room should be on your short list for sure. Also the hidden photo-booth!
