“The best and only one Thai style BBQ place in SF. Feel like you are eating in Thailand, only the meat here is better quality and well marinated. Service is friendly and very helpful.“

“I enjoyed the grilled salmon simple and well done no flakes or dryness. Chicken satay was ok but hard and chewy .. Tom kha soup with chicken with 0 chilli was easy on the GI and still flavorful. Thanks for not going over the top with spices“

“Went to Hed 11 for a date night and it was such a memorable experience. The service was great! The servers were extremely knowledgeable in each of the dishes they presented, and really added to the experience. To top it all off, the dishes were incredible. So much flavor and care put into each dish that I’m still thinking about some of the dishes months later! Save this spot for a special occasion or to support a Japantown hotspot!“

“The food is sooooooo delicious. We tried the Duck's Curry, Yellow Curry, Pineapple Chicken fried rice, Chicken fried rice, Salmon rolls, and Chicken Potstickers. All was amazing! Definitely order your curry with rice. Server was sweet and friendly.“

“Lovely dinner at Prik Hom. Scallop & lemongrass appetizer & dessert (coconut pancakes & coconut ice cream) were by far my favorites. Mushroom curry soup was light and subtle. Seafood curry was rich & tasty, but did not love the texture of the stir fried shrimp. They were out of a few things like white rice and coconut water. Quiet atmosphere conducive to casual catchup with friends. Like another reviewer said, def worth trying at least once!“

“The fried rice was perfectly seasoned with that amazing, authentic wok-flavor, and the Tom Kha soup was incredible—rich, creamy, and beautifully balanced with just the right amount of lemongrass and tang. We also tried the sukiyaki, which was packed with fresh ingredients and had a deeply comforting taste.
To top off the amazing food, the service was outstanding. Our waiter was incredibly attentive, friendly, and made sure we had everything we needed throughout the night without ever being intrusive.“

“Ordered the golden massaman curry and the dark soy dreams (pad see ew)! Loved the golden massaman curry- chicken was super trendy and the soup was super creamy and flavorful, paired super well with rice it was gone in seconds! Just taking one star off because the overall prices are higher than other Thai places“

“We had a nice dinner here with friends. I got the Crispy Pork and Chicken Soup set -- the pork was fantastic. It also came with some tasty Brussels sprouts, green papaya salad, 3 kinds of rice, and a sticky rice dessert. Overall, an excellent combo. However, my wife was less satisfied with her Veggie set, noting that the mains tasted far too sweet. Service was warm and friendly, and the vibe of the place is modern and casual. Parking is easy, since it's right next to the Sutter/Stockton Garage.“

“All the food is delicious and the place is nice and cozy. I would highly recommend for anyone willing to try Thai food in the area.
There was this ‘chili dipped in oil‘ which was included as a side along with hot sauce. We liked it so much that we ordered just the chili sauce. They were planning to sell this as a packaged food in near future and we happened to be the first customers for that item.“

“Most authentic Thai food in SF!
I particularly love their pad see ew. The noodles are fresh and chewy, and not that greasy.
The store is located in tenderloin, and I still love going there for the desserts which aren’t available on delivery apps. Thank you!“

“My friend and I came here on a Wednesday night for dinner. We were seated immediately. Order was taken and the food was served very quickly.
My friend ordered the stirred fried noodle and I ordered the crab omurice. Great flavor with generous portion. I honestly have to say the crab omurice is overrated since it is the signature. The amount of crab meat is lacking.
I would be back to try for different dishes since the flavors are definitely great.“

“Such great food and people. We were hungry driving around looking for that magical parking spot next to an acceptable eating spot bingo! We found it all at Gai. Unsure of what kinda of cuisine I said take the chance they’ve got a chicken on the sign so it’s actually food. And boy was it good. Delicious. Freshly prepared Asian Thai or Vietnamese food. I got the Original Chicken Rice bowl with side of broccali. My friend got the salad with Tofu. Both great. He sauces are fresh and flavorful. One is quite hot which I love. I recommend it. And as we sat there from 1:30 pm to 2:30, there were multiple to go orders being picked up. I think there were about 5 orders at a time rotating. Fresh Fast Full of Flavor. We hit the jackpot!“

“Tiny place, only 4 tables. Cash only, but honestly that's how you know it's gonna be good. Very tasty, generous portions, happy to make a vegetarian version of one of the otherwise meaty dishes. Excited to eat these leftovers later!“

“Top notch. I’d highly recommend the sizzling platters. The Sizzling Beef Bomb was excellent. Fresh with very tender beef. The Sizzling Salmon with curry sauce was very nicely done as well. 👍 all round“

“I’ve eaten here before and I’ve always like their food. I love all the types of curry they serve with the protein of choice. But recently I feel like their red curry with prawns has been a little off. The taste is there but I feel like their red curry sauce is a bit watery looking. And I ordered it with shrimp. They’re very skimpy on the protein. There was maybe three pieces of shrimp.
Service is ok. The staff are friendly enough and I can’t complain. The ambiance of the restaurant is beautiful. They have a walk with a great mural and good for photography.
I really love their fried tofu thought. Perfectly fried and so crispy and tasty.
The price is standard, not cheap but not expensive.“

“A vibrant Thai street‑food style restaurant with bold, authentic flavors that make every meal feel like a trip to Bangkok. Guests enjoy classics like savory pad Thai, rich green curry, crispy chicken over fried rice, and northern Thai khao soi with just the right balance of spice and texture. Portions are generous and well seasoned, and the casual interior has cozy, colorful decor with a relaxed, friendly vibe that suits both casual dinners and fun outings
Management and staff are generally described as friendly and attentive, even during busy service times, making sure guests are seated efficiently and that table needs are met throughout the meal.“

“Good! I love Laotian food and this is definitely well priced. I don’t have pictures but really loved their mango sticky rice too. We asked for one dish to be spicy and I wish we asked for all of them to be, but the none spicy eaters in the group couldn’t handle our one spicy dish.“

“Super yummy food! It's probably the most popular restaurant of the whole International Food Court. One of the best Pad Thai's around. And if in season, don't forget to get their sticky rice mango dessert! And just in case you're not aware, this spot (and the other ones around it) are in an underlevel food court, so you need to go down the stairs from street level to reach it. There are 2 entrances, if one is closed by any reason (like SF homelessness issues), remember to try the other entrance across the corner!“

“I visit almost every weekend. The food is amazing, especially my favorite BKK Street noodles! The server is incredibly welcoming and attentive, patiently answering all questions. She even remembers my usual order every time.
She is incredibly sweet. She handles everything alone, so please be patient and kind to her.
Even though it's a newly opened, family-run business with a small team, they are doing an amazing job. I highly recommend supporting this small business!
We love your food!“

“Fantastic food with great service! Perfect noodles on my pad Thai along with calamari that was just right on the deep fry scale.
One of us had nut allergies and they had no issues accommodating
Definitely will come again next time I’m in SF“

“I went here on Saturday afternoon and it was certainly popular; I had to wait 15 min for a table.
I ordered drunken noodles at level 5 spice and honestly it wasn’t bad. My main disappointment with the restaurant comes with the portion sizes. I felt like it was a bit low but you can decide for yourself.“

“We had dinner on Saturday night, restaurant was not crowded however we understand that the staff was dealing with take out orders. Service was very slow for our order which seemed pretty straightforward: a soup and padthai. Other guests were served more quickly; people at the next table ordered just before we did, got their food, ate and left beforewe got our food?!? On another note, we were not able to dine on the terrasse since it was a bit chilly and there is only one heater that is broken. Buying more heaters should be made a priority. This said, the food was delicious and tasted very fresh. We all loved it. So highly recommend for the food and maybe ordering as take out, only!“

“I come here for their lunch specials ($17.95). I get their J. BBQ Chicken which I think is their most worth item (it’s so thiccc and tender) and either E. Red Curry or F. Green Curry. Came here to celebrate my Cousin’s Bday, so we also ordered a shrimp pad Thai. Good Food & Good Vibes 💛🖤
Always a very welcoming. They do get pretty packed at noons so I recommend coming a little bit earlier to beat the rush.
Check em out, byeee.“

“I have been twice so far and both time the food was - delicious! Everything we ordered was good especially the chicken satay, fresh rolls, pad Thai, green curry and mango sticky rice. The people who work there went above and beyond. We called about coming in close to closing with the family, they insisted we come in and that they were genuinely happy to have us. We felt so welcome both times. Will keep coming back!“

“Only my 2nd time picking up food for lunch while working . Love their spicy catfish eggplant curry with Thai brown rice. Downside , Portions of catfish was skimpy & sliced very thin . Need thicker & more slices. My 2nd was the drunken noodles w/ prawns , delicious slightly spicy flavor. Veggies were a bit undercook crunchy but prawns were excellent j& perfectly cooked . Noodle dish a bit greasy but that comes with this type of wide rice noodle when pan fried . Would easily reorder these 2 again but want to try an array of dishes in their menu . 2 thumbs up , recommend .“

“I’ve been coming to Basil Canteen for more than ten years, and I just realized I’ve never actually written a review… which feels almost wrong given how often I’m here.
This place is just solid in the best possible way. The food is consistently good — every time. The service is always friendly and on point without being overbearing. And somehow, no matter how busy things get, it still feels easy and comfortable to eat here.
I live just one block away, so Basil Canteen has become one of those places I don’t even think twice about. Quick dinner? Basil. Meeting a friend? Basil. Don’t feel like cooking and want something I know will be good? Basil. It’s dependable in a way that’s honestly rare.
Restaurants like this don’t stick around for years unless they’re doing a lot of things right, and Basil Canteen clearly is. Great people, great food, great energy — and the kind of neighborhood spot you’re genuinely grateful to have nearby.
Very overdue five stars from me.“

“This is one of my favorite restaurants. When we lived in Mill Valley, it was on the short list of our rotation: locally owned, wonderful staff and even better than wonderful food. The staff is very friendly and accommodating. Now that I live in Illinois, I make a point to eat here every time I am in the Bay Area. I have not found Thai in the US that I like better.“
