“Ate here 4 times. 1: salmon w fish, 2nd: branzino w lime , 3: seabass eggplant and 4th: sweet sour fried pompano. all of them were excellent. thai fish cakes and mushroom dumpling for appetizers were great . My wife had Tom yum soup and coconut pad Thai : both of which she loved . our service was great as well. we live in San jose but we're up in Berkeley for about a few weeks and this Thai restaurant is better than any in South Bay. highly recommended!“

“Bua Luang is hands down the BEST Thai restaurant in the entire Bay Area, not just in Albany! I have been enjoying Thai cuisine all around the Bay for over 25 years. My family and I have Thai food at least 2-3 times a week, so we have tried many (and I mean MANY) Thai restaurants over the decades, and without a doubt we all agree that Bua Luang offers the freshest, tastiest, and most delicately prepared Thai cuisine of all. Every dish is packed with the freshest ingredients. The flavors and textures are amazing. Restaurants in Thailand don’t make a Pad Thai as delicious as the Pad Thai at Bua Luang—believe us, we have tried Pad Thai all over Thailand and we still longed for the Pad Thai at Bua Luang. The chef at this restaurant is a culinary master!

Not only are the dishes at this restaurant superb, the atmosphere is serene and delightful. The indoor space is clean, cozy, and modern with soft old-world touches and whimsical lighting. The ambiance music is very pleasant. It’s not too loud, and it’s easy to talk with and hear others in your party. If you choose to dine outside, you are greeted by the most beautiful outdoor seating area on all of Solano Avenue. The space is gorgeous and inviting. And then there is the staff: always friendly and attentive. They provide a truly exceptional dining experience all around.

This restaurant is an absolute gem. If I could give it more stars I would. Don’t walk, run to this spot!“

“A Humble Plea: Bring Tanya Back!

We’ve been ordering from Hawking Bird for the last year - it’s our go-to spot for delicious fried chicken and flavorful garlic noodles. Our standard order: the Tanya Special. This ingenious dish focused on my favorite Hawking Bird offerings with none of the fluff. Imagine my disappointment when I learned this special was removed from the menu! Yes, you can alter the fried chicken bowl (sub noodles, remove the cucumber/cilantro/mint) but Tanya was generous, providing a larger portion size that cannot be recreated. Times are tough, and Miss Tanya provided some relief.

My loyalty to Hawking Bird has not wavered, I’m placing an order right now - but please consider bringing this special back!“

“The best Thai food I’ve had to in SF so far. I love that they offer a decent Thai Boat Noodles and their special papaya salad is second to none (Tum Taad). I couldn’t help myself from over ordering the dishes from their menu since I’ve been craving Thai food. For our table of four, I spent around $50 per person, but each of their menu items are very reasonably priced and $20-$30 would be enough to get one feeling full. I highly recommend it and I’ll totally go there again soon.“

“Loved Praaw Thai! We got the Kao Pad Mun Puu, Ribeye Green Curry, and Emily’s Dumplings. The Kao Pad Mun Puu was my favorite, super flavorful and went so well with the soft egg. The ribeye was tender and the green curry was creamy and delicious. Emily’s Dumplings were really good too. I also loved the atmosphere and all the vinyl records on the walls. Such a cute spot, would definitely come back!“

“I came here last night for a business dinner and had a great experience. The service was excellent-attentive, friendly, and professional without feeling overdone. The food was the highlight - it offers a creative, modern take on Thai cuisine through a set menu, which made the meal feel much more thoughtful and unique than a typical Thai restaurant. Each dish was well presented, flavorful, and clearly designed to complement the rest of the menu. The space also has a great atmosphere. “One of my favorite restaurants in San Francisco! It's definitely their take on Thai food, but it was absolutely delicious. Every dish we ordered was flavorful and some had decent spice- both I find hard to replicate outside of Thailand. The ambiance was lovely, perfect date night spot. If I had to be picky, the service was okay (server came up to us without even saying hello, that kind of vibe), but he was able to answer every question we had so I really can't complain. “We just had dinner at Bangkok By The Bay and highly recommend it. The food was super tasty: we got Pad Makuer with tofu, brown rice, and a special that I think was called Choo Chee Salmon. The vegetables were all really tasty and nicely cooked, and the tofu and salmon were really good. The service is great, they were attentive and helpful--even brought a bed for our dog, and some water for her too. The outdoor seating is quiet and pleasant, not right on the street, with the additional nice element of the sound of the fountain nearby.“

“We often bring out-of-towners here because it's hard to find Laotian food outside of the Bay and Vientian Cafe always delivers. The menu is super extensive and very reasonably priced, so you can try a bunch of new things each time. We always get the nam kao and the lao sausage (which you can also take home frozen). Angel wings are also super addictive.

Food also travels well if you're looking for takeout. One of our favorite spots in the east bay!“

“The standard Thai menu items like green curry and pad see ew were unusually good. The “Thai home cooking” menu items like “mee cook”and “custard bread” dessert were bland and not tasty.“

“Cool place (love the decor/style), nice staff & tasty food. Some dishes you will not find in the average Thai restaurant in the Bay Area. For example, the chef or owner is from northern Thailand so the menu features a top Northern Thai dish - Kao Soi noodle soup (beef or chicken), or the all time fav 'street food' grilled pork skewers (moo ping) served with sticky rice (ck out the menu on their website). I had the Pad Kemao Chicken (menu says beef but they are happy to make dishes with what you like & even have Beyond Meat dishes on the menu - cool to see stir fried basil with Beyond Meat (Krapao Beyond Neur)). The taste of my wok fried pad kemao was delicious, same or better than any I've had on prior trips to Bangkok. Glad to have discovered a solid Thai restaurant that doesn't have watered down flavors. Good to see they have a lot of gluten free and vegan choices on the menu too. Definitely will be back, keep up the good work!“

I got the Original Chicken Rice bowl with side of broccali. My friend got the salad with Tofu. Both great. He sauces are fresh and flavorful. One is quite hot which I love. I recommend it. And as we sat there from 1:30 pm to 2:30, there were multiple to go orders being picked up. I think there were about 5 orders at a time rotating. Fresh Fast Full of Flavor. We hit the jackpot!“
