“I met the owner of this place while doing rideshare. At the end of the trip he said, “Since you got me home safely, come by my sandwich shop and I’ll have my people hook you up.”
His staff was just as friendly as he was, and the sandwich tasted even better than I expected.
My recommendation: turkey and salami with lettuce, tomato, and pickles on a toasted French roll with garlic sauce only.
The taste isn’t something to die for, it’s something to live and stay alive for.

“I'm a long time customer of this Heroic so this review is way overdue but I just had a really nice experience yesterday and thought it was time to share what I think of this little gem. The food is so good (sandwiches, the calabrian shrimp, the meatballs, and their gluten free pizza to name a few of my faves) but the customer service that you get from David (the owner of Heroic) makes it exceptional. I find that it's rare anymore in the restaurant industry to get the level of customer service you get from him. He is so kind and so accommodating. You can tell that he truly genuinely cares what your experience is. Customer experience like this makes repeat customer in itself. Doesn't hurt that his food is DELISH as well.“

I don’t know the first names, but I’ve been seeing their faces for years. I rediscovered this place about a year ago. Told my daughter about it. I’ve had many Sandwiches in the neighborhood and around the Bay area because I’m a native , but this is something so special about the sandwich they’ll do anything you want , warm it up , cut it in half that just makes it so perfect. I use light pesto on my sandwich w mayor and…. I like a little vinaigrette, kind of a taste, and I love their pastrami

“Absolutely the best personal pizza experience! Gloria made me a Margherita pizza with pepperoni, and I nearly devoured the whole thing—it was that good! I usually come here for their fresh salads, especially the garden and the petit di Pollo. This spot is perfect for enjoying high-quality food, and I love unwinding with a glass of wine in the cozy bar area during late afternoons or evenings. The patio is also a lovely place to catch up with friends or coworkers over lunch.“

“As someone raised on the east coast, I consider myself a decent critic of what makes a sandwich shop better than what you can make at home. Number one is bread that isn’t something that can be bought at your local grocery store. Check that box- I don’t know exactly how to categorize their sub roll but it’s crusty, chewy and all the things that mass produced bread can’t be. Number two is the prep of the ingredients- at home we can all put a lettuce leaf on a sandwich, but that just creates a barrier between bread/sauce/meat. Here it’s thinly sliced and perfectly married to the importance of sauce…which they also nail. All I can say is WELL DONE!“

I could have tried it then but I wanted my own full experience and to show support for this creation.
You ever had a Bahn Mi as big as a deli sandwich? You ever wanted bulgogi on your Bahn Mi?
When you first enter you’re welcomed with smiles and a good vibe. I would suggest pre ordering as there has to be a line at times. You’re hit with a menu board and tons of options both sandwiches and drinks.
I chose the Bulgogi Bahn Mi, sandwhich was huge! The beef was so tender and hefty. Guaranteed to fill you up . The pickled veggies were fresh and well flavored. The bread! Soft but has a light crunch.
Washed it all down with a Mango Green Tea Bobba. Not too sweet and also tasted fresh.

“Ordered the combo pork with pate,fancy pork,head cheese,ham,mayo,pickled carrot and onion. I also added jalapeño. The combination of the toasted bread and generous pate made the sandwich crunchy and moist. Meats and veggie were very tasty with the pickled carrots. Price is right and sandwich are very good. “There was an Espotos's Delicatezza in San Mateo and after Covid they never opened again, I was sad, the sandwiches at that place were irresistible, I always ordered a Valentino and it was super delicious. “The things going for Darby Dan's are no line, fast service, full kitchen and beers on tap. We had a couple of sandwiches. Darby Dan sandwich $15 and a roast beef w/Swiss $13.50. They had a full kitchen on the right. It wasn't on the menu but they made some chili cheese fries for me. They even had Mango Cart beer on tap. I had a pint. I'm not sure how much it cost because they don't give me a receipt. Regardless, everything tasted OK.“

“This review is for a takeout/office catering order so I can’t speak to the vibe, but the staff here are so kind and accommodating and the food was great. I have celiac so I was nervous when my office chose a sandwich spot for a catered lunch, but when I called mission picnic they assured me they could make my sandwich on gluten free bread and would follow appropriate procedures to prevent cross contamination. My sandwich came packed in a separate bag apart from the items with gluten and was marked “gluten free” in multiple places. I felt really safe and the sandwich was great!“

“I am so glad they opened this sandwich spot! I ordered 5 items for takeout and it came out to only $34. I got 2 veggie sandwiches on Dutch crunch. Best sandwiches in San Mateo County. I also tried their 2 dessert options. They have the bst carrot cake I have ever had! Their chocolate chip cookie tasted very rich. I had their veggie soup which was fresh and delicious. This place is my new go to spot. The location is a little awkward, but the inside is organized and clean. It only took 10 minutes to make my order. Definitely a satisfied customer!!!“

“This review is not for the food, but for the customer service at this location. I ordered, ate, and left, only to go home and realize my phone earbuds were missing.

I called the store and a man who I think was the manager picked up. Not only did he look for them, he also asked me if I had associated a name with my order and what I got so he could check the video footage. He was able to pinpoint when I was there and told me he'd call me back if he saw that I'd dropped them on the video.

I ended up finding them, but I am so deeply appreciative of the time the employees here took to reassure me they were doing everything they could to help me with my lost item. They truly went above and beyond and I hope they are recognized for it.“

The food was fresh and wrapped so well it stayed warm even after waiting for the shuttle for almost forty minutes. The man behind the counter was so welcoming and helped me find my way to the shuttle stop when I was beyond lost. Overall 100/10 service. If I ever come back to South San Francisco this will be on my list of stops.“

This shop got robbed while I was there: some African American teenagers with face covers darted with their sandwiches and drinks without paying for them. It's not the business's fault, but still, doesn't feel good to visit a venue where that happens (the robbers could have been violent and looking to take more than just the food..).“
