“I spend a lot of time on freeways all around central CA and it's good to know a spot you can hit for some great food. I might have been the only person in the building who spoke English. It looked like a ma and pa operation, with Ma running the front and Pa cooking in the back. Good, good food. I had a shrimp cocktail and it was yummy, the kind where you eat the shrimp and when no one is looking you slurp the sauce. I also had 2 carne asada tacos which were delicious and it made a great lunch. It was weird that they have a lot of pictures of their dishes on the wall and some of them have prices and others don't.“

“The food was ok, but we probably won’t go back. We come to the area multiple times a year and try to go to more local places and this came up on our search for clam chowder not on Fisherman’s Wharf. My husband said the chowder was so-so, but the fish and chips were fantastic. The fries were good. I had the alfredo and that was pretty delicious but the garlic bread was a huge let down, kind of tasted old and gummy. Also my daughter also got Alfredo but hers looked and tasted much different than mine, which is odd. The restaurant itself could probably fit 5-10 more tables comfortably, and because it was so sparse it kind of feels off-putting, I guess, and there was only one table that could sit our family of 6. It was also very affordable, but the menu stated they charge for water, which is odd. They also charge for use of a credit card. Food took a little longer than normal to get to us, and there was only one waitress so service was a bit slow. I watched five people walk in and leave because they didn’t want to wait to be seated. Another party got up and grabbed their own menus. So, I don’t know if we’ll go back. It’s a hard maybe. The things that weren’t good, like the garlic bread, is a big deal. But that’s the cheapest meal I think we’ve ever had in the area so maybe we’ll go back and try other things and give it another shot. Not sure yet.“

I admit, I enjoy a certain style of wine. But with an open mind was able to understand a nuances of different variables, as it was paired with food. The Somalia had a great deal of knowledge, and was very skilled at explaining a nuances of the wines we enjoyed. “My family and I, although we have lived in the Monterey area for quite a few years, had our first dinner experience at Sardine Factory. My mother chose this restaurant, because she remembered seeing a beautiful photo of the place in a travel brochure. My brother and I were determined to "do whatever mom wants", so we agreed to her suggestion immediately.Upon arrival, we were seated in one of the extraordinary dining rooms. Mom asked about the "sunroom in the brochure", and... Since we were determined to do anything that Mom wants, I worked up the courage to ask Rachel and Natalie to figure out what room my mother was talking about and seat us there.Typically, I am quite shy about inconveniening people, but... Today was different. I just found out that my elderly mother had a doctor's visit that was life-changing.So... I found a moment to tell Rachel and Natalie that I was deaing with a "life moment regarding mom's health". Rachel and Natalie immediately found a table for us in the glass atrium that my mother had seen in a brochure. I was very, very touched by how quickly these two lovely staff members worked to make my mom's wish come true. Their kindness and sincerity were just so apparent and obvious. We took dozens of photographs of ourselves, my laughing mom, and the beautiful glass atrium. The food was delicious. I drank too much. There were some tears and laughter. The beautiful setting. The delicious food. The wine. The happy memories, while my family shared a rare moment to get together despite our busy, busy lives....Rachel and Natalie and the rest of the wonderful staff at Sardine Factory, thank you so much for sharing your love, sincerity, your gorgeous restaurant and lovingly prepared food with us.My entire family will remember this evening forever. Thank you.~Austin“

We were able to make a reservation about 45 minutes away to secure a table right away. We ordered two servings of the clam chowder which was without a doubt the best clam chowder we’ve ever had. Attaching “award winning” to the menu name was appropriate. Biggest regret was only getting a cup instead of a bowl. For entrees we had the fish & chips and sesame crusted mahi mahi. Dessert was a cookie sundae and coconut cake. Everything was delicious. We left completely stuffed but satisfied. Next time we are in the area we will definitely be back!“

“A warm and welcoming restaurant a short walk from the main drag in Carmel. The menu changes each time we visit and tends to be more innovative with seasonal fish, cross cultural influences and less used cuts and types of meat. It’s a contrast from other local restaurants as while other restaurants work to emulate various European cuisines this restaurant is just itself. The exposed brick and cozy interior create an intimate experience and compliments the meal. Personally we make a point of coming to this restaurant every time we are in Carmel because during a holiday weekend in the pandemic they sat us and stayed late when no one else in town would serve us. Will be back.“

“The hole in the wall is located on the wharf. Walk down stairs and it's right on the water. The initial impression I got wasn't great. Standing and waiting for several mins awkwardly as multiple people passed by who work there, not even a quick greeting or acknowledgment. A very busy, quick talking woman came rushing our way at some point and whisked us away to a table. The view was beautiful. The ocean, the boats, the weather. Fairly quickly we did get served. Trying the fresh halibut special, it did. It disappoint. Deliciously encrusted with pecan and bread crumbs, a creamy mango sauce. My other half opted for the salmon, also fresh and delicious. The overall observation and interaction is that this is a locally owned establishment with a great reputation of the locals and tourist drift in and out.“

“We were in Monterey on a work trip last week. The week before we were in Washington DC and I had a conversation with a woman who worked in SF as a Social Security judge. When I told her we were heading to Monterey the first place she told us to go was The Monterey Fish House. "You have to go!"The trip happened to fall on my husband's birthday, so we went that evening early with no reservations. If you want to get in before the dinner rush my advice is to get there before 6 pm. After that people start pouring through the door and many wait at the bar or outside waiting for a table. The restaurant itself is very intimate, comfortable and friendly. It's very clean and decorated without being at all pretentious. The staff are incredibly attentive and responsive, you'll want for nothing even if the place is full.We were excited for a great dinner for my guy's birthday, and we weren't disappointed. We started out with oak grilled oysters on the half-shell (AMAZING. Found out the they were Hama Hama oysters grown right where we live, we enjoy these oysters every summer up here in the PNW! Excellent choice!) and crab cakes (absolutely delicious). We followed up with grilled artichoke and seafood pasta and oak grilled sea bass with vegetables and pasta. To say both dishes were amazing is an understatement. The white sauce over the artichoke/seafood pasta blew me away. The seafood included was scallops, clams, mussels and prawns. All fresh and delicious. My husband's sea bass was great, we shared bites of each other's dishes. The portions were very generous, the wait for food was fast. The presentation was great, really top-notch.I have to thank our waiter Tony, he was so good at his job. He often checked in to see how we were doing. The other gentleman (who's name I didn't get) was also incredibly attentive and kind. He heard my husband mention that it was his birthday and pretty soon our chocolate mousse came out with a birthday candle and the entire wait staff singing "Happy Birthday." A wonderful and memorable night! We also chatted with a couple of gents from Ireland on a road trip up the California Coast. We loved the conversation between bites. We did come back the day before we went home and had another incredible dinner. All the same raves as above. Our chatting partners this time were a couple of lovely local ladies, a mom and daughter, celebrating the birthday of their husband/father who had the birthday of 04/04/1924. I would be very happy if my relatives we celebrate my birthday every year at The Monterey Fish House to remember me!Until we visit again, thank you!!! ❤️❤️❤️????❤️❤️❤️“

“Great experience at Schooners on the patio overlooking the water. Our waiter, Jacob, was very attentive and made great recommendations. Clam chowder in a bread bowl was excellent, Thai style curry mussels were delicious and the ceviche was good but not great. The fish tacos were tasty and the fried chicken sandwich was flavorful and unique. Would definitely dine there again.“

“This place is very delicious. I have been here quite a few times. However, I'm writing this to the staff in the restaurant. I am ukrainian and came in today and noticed that the beef stroganoff was labeled Ukrainian. With all due respect, this dish is pure Russian. It was invented in the Tsarist era of Russia. It is good to support the truth, however it is disrespectful to label a dish with the wrong country just to support it. That is hate towards the orgin of this dish and is very disturbing to me as a Ukrainian.“

“I usually never rate restaurants after a meal however today as I sit here at FISHWIFE I am glad to say we had wonderful waiters who were very generous as well as adverting to preferences. The waiters and staff go out of their way to make conversation with kids. The food, the food! The food here is excellent and tastes beautifully caught and crafted, their seafood is outstanding as well as having impeccable “land food”. Their kids menu was, as far as I could tell, was very satisfactory. Would absolutely recommend to anyone from a first date to a family dinner!Vegetarian options: They have multiple vegetarian options, also clearly labeled, as well as having multiple entrees with the word vegetarian in the name.Dietary restrictions: The menu clearly states which food options are gluten freeKid-friendliness: They have a kids menu as well as crayons for drawing!“

“We LOVE Hula’s!! As Tiki Tuesday regulars now, we always come back for the great service (shout out to Dan especially! He is always so warm and friendly and makes great recommendations for specials and favorites!), fun and cozy atmosphere, and excellent food and drinks. I have never had a bad experience in all the times of coming here, and I always recommend the Godzilla tots and a Dr. Funk to all that come to Monterey. I also really appreciate the vegan options that they have as it can be difficult to accommodate my dietary needs with my friends and family who aren’t always also vegetarian or vegan. Thank you Hula’s team!!“

“This review is long overdue!! I ended catching a gnarly sickness while prego and wasn't able to post a review until way later. This place has such a stellar view of the ocean in Monterey! We went on a rainy day, but even still it was such a cool experience seeing the boats and ocean nearby. Our servers were super great and kept coming around to check on the table. The portions were huge for the cost, and the lunch specials were a steal! My mouth is still watering for the teriyaki steak. I highly recommend coming on Saturday for a relaxing afternoon. On top of it all, they have some great lunch specials. I highly recommend this spot“
