“This is a fantastic restaurant with innovative cuisine, lovely , warm, welcoming ,fun ambiance and great service. We were treated so thoughtfully by chef and waiter, John. We can recommend everything - tomato burrata salad , wagyu beef carpaccio salad , foccacia like you have never had, moules fritte , chicken Parmesan , strawberry dessert and incredible fig pastry. Don’t forget the amazing wines . Highest recommendation !“

“This place is in the Embassy Suites- that’s important for info on atmosphere and finding it! Really nice ambiance- we ended up here as it was the only place open past nine and we had just gotten into town and needed dinner and drinks and got both here with very friendly service. You can sit away from the bar area if the hotel bar is hoppin’.Limited menu- but totally sufficient and nice representation of local produce.

“Authentic mexican and south-american food restaurant. The service was friendly and quick. The atmosphere could be a little bit more comfortable. The food was on point (although the fish in the ceviche was cooked and shredded) and the michelada is a great choice!

Parking: More than five spots directly in front of the restaurant but there is space to park on the street, also.“

My daughter enjoyed her grilled salmon and my son had pasta with grilled chicken and parmesan that he enjoyed - custom made just for him. Sea bass with mashed potatoes and Chinese cabbage came with sauce that was too salty. The crab tower appetizer did not impress us either. Fried calamari were great. We enjoyed our experience overall.“

“We drove down for the day to have lunch and visit the.beach. We were greeted right away and seated and served champagne and caviar as a welcome which we very much enjoyed. We both ordered the fish tacos that were delicious, desert tiramisu again ever was great we will be returning for dinner next visit to Carmel! “

“We ate on a Saturday night at 6pm. The restaurant was about half full. They use the same seafood from the fish market inside the store so you can see what you are getting and it is very fresh.

Meals include soup or salad and baked potato, fries etc plus veggies.

We started with raw oysters which were ok not great. Too big and mushy and one was awful tasting.

One of us had white clam chowder, grilled swordfish and baked potato.
The other had red chowder, grilled halibut with lemon caper sauce, and double veggies.

The chowder and fish were great. Fresh and perfectly cooked. The baked potato and veggies were overcooked and a bit bland.

Service was attentive and friendly.

Cost for two without alcohol was $90. A relative bargain for fish in Carmel.“

“We enjoyed the mini black pearl platter, it was plenty for a family of four and €200 plus tip. It was great fun trying to extract every last bit our teenage kids loved it. We enjoyed a window seat so looked out over the harbour. The platter included Clam Chowder, King Crab, Snow Crab, Dungeness Crab, Lobster, Jumbo Prawns, mini prawns, clams and mussels.“

They also really love to customize to your exact taste eg. customizable ratio of rice to salad. We stayed for the weekend in the area and came back here a second time.“

Had a late lunch here before taking whale watching tour. We had the fish and chips (if my memory serves me right, it was $8.5, which is quite okay considering the touristic nature), which was fresh albeit a bit too oily to our liking. Perhaps we expect too much for an eatery that is located right next to a fishery center. After back from the tour, we came back to grab a cup of clam chowder. That time around it was a hit - the savory, warm, and creamy chowder fit extremely well with the cold late autumn evening weather.

A bit off topic, the poster in the eatery cracked us up - I can get small kids like kittens, but espresso (lol)?!“

“If you approach Foray along 5th Avenue, you cannot help looking into the kitchen. The wide unobstructed windows reveal a brightly lit space where everyone seems dedicated to their task, in a quiet, resolute manner. A good sign for sure. When we entered, we were greeted by Caroline, who turned out to be the owner, along with her husband chef Michael. Her warm welcome was another good sign.

We decided to start with a cocktail. The night was young. We found the cocktail selection to be intriguing, and maybe also a little irreverent… Rum and apricot in a Negroni? I’m glad I tried! We asked for the brioche at the same time (its always bread time!). It was fantastic. I wanted to dip a piece of it in the Negroni – think baba at rhum – and maybe I did!

It gave us the opportunity to leisurely review the menu (we never felt rushed throughout the night, a nice feeling compared to so many other restaurants).

I started (I’ll stick to what I had. I’m confident my companion will share what she had in her own review) with the Castroville artichoke. The menu clearly puts forward the products of the area, and it was nice to think that I had just driven through the town where that artichoke was grown! I just loved the combination with the lime aioli and the mustard greens. The glass of Champagne Salmon was a great pairing. It was also a great pairing with the appetizer, the crab tortellini. The tortellini were light and indulgent at the same time. Again, a remarkable combination of flavors, and a delicious opportunity to compare the meyer lemon with the lime aioli of the previous dish.

Are we there yet? Nooooo. I had ordered the striploin, bleu s’il-vous-plaît! The temperature was perfect, as ordered (how many times…). The sides were imaginative and worked perfectly together. Finally, the Mathewson cab Caroline recommended was a fantastic accompaniment.

The night was not so young anymore… Yet, dessert was de rigueur. The tatin, reimagined, as so many items on the menu, was a wonderful conclusion to the evening (so was the impeccable espresso).

“That was hands down the BEST clam chowder I’ve EVER had! The sourdough bowl it comes in was the perfect complement to the flavors of the chowder. The Dungeness crab legs were perfectly cooked, the seasoning was so delicious, and it was finger licking worthy. The atmosphere was so cool and the staff was super friendly and fast. I’m highly impressed. Unfortunately, the town I cannot say the same about, so, I’ll recommend this place to everyone that’ll listen, but I’ll never be able to eat there again.“

“It's a serene setting. It was quite smoky from the large indoor grill & took awhile for the intensity of the smoke to ease up. Our server was friendly. She seemed to be stretched for time & service. Unfortunately, the Ceasar salad had quite a bit of grit in it, which I'm guessing was from sand in the lettuce. There were a couple mishaps with regards to wine ordering. A Sauv Blanc was served instead of a Chardonnay & the 2nd glass didn't arrive until after I was done eating. But, she did end up comping the 2nd glass due to its late arrival, which was appreciated. Nice atmosphere, noise level is not overwhelming.“

Every ingredient in every dish is intentionally used, there are no lazily picked side dishes here. The small restaurant is very charming and half of their seating is outside, well covered and heated nicely. Make sure to make a reservation!“
