“I find this restaurant to be a very sweet treat. It's the only place in town. I can find beef cheeks, if you've never had them you should try them. The most delectable mouthwatering, juicy meat falls apart in your mouth like butter. I miss when they used to have the pizza oven, but everything else is rather delicious so I'll let it pass. Don't be over sold by the squid ink pasta, it's not that great. Always order the Barada, it's super fresh and absolutely delicious“

They even printed Happy Anniversary on the menu for us We ordered the butter charcuterie board to start. It was delicious and I could have eaten a pound of the butter. Our cocktails were great and we had seconds. I had the bass and my husband had the pork and we left no crumbs! We also got the chocolate cake and the pumpkin cheesecake to go, and those were fabulous. Everything was fabulous and we will absolutely be back!“

“Be careful with allergies. I was served gluten after specifically telling our server I was allergic. People make mistakes, so be cautious. Besides that, the appetizer- shrimp n grits. Unbelievably delicious, if it hasn’t won an award it should. It’s really really good. Chef Nick called me after we left (he was not at the restaurant) and apologized, comped the meal. Very gracious. Up until I ate gluten, it was the best dining experience I’ve had in decades. Unfortunately, we had to cut it short and leave.“

“They have a good thing going on here. Don't let the chef leave, they are good. Came with my family. Our server was a kind woman who went out of her way to make sure we were taken care of and brought coloring supplies for our girls (not just a sheet but full coloring books). The food was outstanding. The kids meny food was so good, they aren't dumbing it down or cutting corners, instead exposing children to great technique. They brought us little freebie appetizers which is always a nice touch. We sat on the patio on a nice day and I couldn't have asked for more.“

“I found this place in a search of restaurants in Aptos. My inlaws live there and the family owns a Condo in the area in Capitola on the other side of the freeway. We always go to Shadowbrook and I wanted to find something other than Shadowbrook as we always go there and we are very well familiar with that wonderful place already so when I found Persephone and saw it was fine dining, I thought perfect, we need to check this one out. My first reservation was for inside. And when we got to Capitola the night before, we were not sure we were gonna make it so I had cancelled. then after deciding we were gonna stay, I rescheduled and we ended up getting outside seating for 6:45. Upon arriving, late of course, we still managed to get our seating. It wasn't busy on the outside patio. There was another couple there and then it was my partner and I. We were sat and our server came up and introduced himself. He gave us the wine list and our menus. Said he'd come back for our orders for drinks. I ordered a Wine and my partner a beer. I also asked for Tea as well. after he walked away, we looked at the menu, which is not very large. Appetizers are great looking, but we were thinking well for 7$ which is the cheapest item on the menu period we thought that it looked good. It was a Facaccia bread served with hummus and oil. We thought oh we will get that. But upon the return of our server he had brought us that very item. I thought OH ok, so you don' have to order it they just bring it to you. But the little plates they serve the hummus and oil on are not big at all. And you run out fast. We had asked for more and the server just brought us the bread and not the hummus or the oil. He took our order and then walked off. We never got water. or asked if we had any questions on the menu at all. We had to finally ask for water. So they brought us a bottle. My partner had finished his beer and for a while before food came out we didn't see our server at all. Until food came out. No return in between to check to see if we needed another drink etc. The patio is a nice little side section. But the thing I noticed is the vines to the tree's over the side hill were over growing on the fence and over the side tables which were all empty cause of rain. But still no trimming. There were speakers up above the ceiling, but no music playing so we had the entertainment of the traffic off the road. It was rather quiet in the sense of no one was really outside but two couples us and the other couple. Then when they left, it was just us. Back to the food, the food was amazing. I had the Serloin and my partner the short rib dish. Neither dish disappointed. They were amazing. Flavors were all on target. The wine my partner had asked for was brought out to him before getting our dish. At that time we had to ask for water for our glasses that sat empty the entire 30 minutes being there. It was at least a good 10 minutes before the server came back out to check on us. I didn't mention that when I got my dish, they didn't provide me with a steak knife nor my partner. I was using my butter knife to cut my meat. Then the server came out and noticed and apologized and ran and got me a steak knife. After the meal, we sat and discussed how amazing the food was and waited for the servers to come get our dirty dishes. Then the host came out and gathered, the server came behind and asked if we wanted dessert. I thought we are in this so yes, I want to try the dessert. I had the brownie ala mode and my partner got the Panna Cotta with Kumquats, Olallieberry and chocolate. again both dishes gave a great presentation. Both delish and we were very happy with our choices. Over all, food is by far amazing and worth the visit. I fell that the service lacked in a big way though cause although we were the only one's that ended up out on the side patio, it was like people forgot about us. We had long delays before we got service and our server. when they brought out our dessert, I had also asked for our check. Which I'm glad I did caus“

“We’ve been fans of Chef Damien’s other endeavors for some time but this iteration is elevated to new levels and might be the best kept secret in Santa Cruz! The food is a wide range from Asian fusion to Brewery pub classics. Each dish has a beautiful balance of flavor and richness yet feels light and clean. The beers on tap vary from other local spots so you try some new Monterey bay local breweries. The ambience is classic old diner mashed up with skate/ surf culture with rock leanings. Bar scene with a tv and kind, warm people equals, great spot to watch a game. In short, this place is a gem and we always feel like we are scoring a new secret spot. Go now before it gets line out the door busy!“

“The appetizer pictured was really good. It was a bit much for an appetizer so I couldn't finish my dinner. It was like eating breakfast right before dinner. But it was tasty. I'd go back just for that. I had the brisket for dinner, which was also very good. The place was nearly empty, yet they squeezed us next to another table right by the kitchen. So now I hate them. There a parking garage close by but it gets a lot of traffic. Beware the homeless sleeping in the stairwell. They're harmless. Just don't trip stepping over them.“

“Outstanding restaurant, particularly with food and service. We arrived on a very busy, rainy Friday evening and put our name on the waitlist. It was a short wait so we decided to just wait there. We were treated with incredible hospitality from the beginning- someone (maybe the GM, I’m not sure his role) chatted with us while we waited and we immediately felt at ease and even more excited about the meal we were about to have. Our server was a consummate professional and she basically read my mind and made sure i had some mozz on my pizza. The food was some of the best I’ve had in Santa Cruz. But what makes me most eager to return is the wonderful experience of being welcomed as a guest at this lovely restaurant.“

“Stopped in on a Thursday evening after my friend, who was born and raised in Santa Cruz, recommended this place to me for the umpteenth time. I had to apologize an equal amount of times because I have been missing out. I visited just the tasting room because I had my two dogs with me. First impressions are important and the bartender was so friendly and knowledgeable. I had the Grapefruit and Grace first and it was a mild but still tasty drink. It was well balanced and refreshing. It really hit the spot for the 70 degree day it was. I finished it pretty fast because it was an easy drink, so be careful. I also had a mocktail (A ROSE BY ANY OTHER NAME), and it was just as refreshing without the kick, obviously. I would order it again if I wasn't in the mood to drink because I am a sucker for elderflower. I also got the popcorn which I really liked. It was very well seasoned (I must know the seasoning lol) and each piece had a crunch to it. I wasn't hungry so it was a nice snack that won't fill anyone up too much, yet it was satisfying. I honestly eat popcorn five times a week so I feel like I am an expert on the subject lmao I will definitely have to go back and have some more of the food and their seasonal drinks. It was a great first impression for a quick stop in!“

I have been here for a baby shower as well; they have a private party room in the back if you want to have a more private space with your friends. They have great brunch and lunch. I have only been here once for dinner and it is just as good. I usually end up getting the burger or fish tacos which are both really good. The atmosphere is really cute; they have lots of plants which makes the space feel inviting and cozy. I love coming here. They also have plenty of parking in the parking lot. “Pino Alto is a hidden treasure. The restaurant doesn't have a professional staff. Instead, all the staff are students of the Cabrillo College culinary program, so they really care about doing the best possible job. They are on top of it - from sanitation to serving. We've eaten there several times. It has been excellent. Tuesday we had: roasted red pepper soup which was a perfect balance of creamy and pepper flavor, we also had shrimp on polenta. It was the best shrimp I've ever tasted in my long years. They make everything, including the bread served with lunch, which was better than bread served at other restaurants. The students rotate within the staff jobs to get the full experience. The waiters are careful and accommodating. The prices are reasonable and the environment (in the Session House) is open, uncrowded and visually pleasing. I highly recommend it.“
