“Mike & Ken’s Deli, my son wanted a turkey sandwich, we drove to Little Luca, it was 5:30 PM. The place closed at 4:00PM. We drove around after looking for a sandwich place open, the map suggest to try the Mike & Ken’s Deli. I was happy to see a couple of Cop vehicles outside the deli, (always a good sign that the food is good) there was a few orders ahead and it was 11 minutes formy turn. My son went for the Turkey and Provolone sandwich on soft roll, they were out of it so we went for the warmed sourdough instead. Nice people making the sandwich with large selection of salads, breakfast and sandwiches. The deli is like a small liquor store serving beer with lottery ticket machine available.“

“Awesome new vendor in the kiosk that used to be Bi-Rite in the Civic Center Plaza (pre-pandemic). I've had 4 things here (napolitano, caprese and veggie sandwiches and beet salad) and they've all been fresh and delicious with a generous serving. The bread they use is soft and yummy, not too "bready" with a good bread:fillings ratio. My main critique is the pricing, which -- while in line with SF prices -- isn't going to be accessible to most of the local residents of the TL/SOMA. The gelato pricing starts at $5.99. With a playground right behind the kiosk, it would be nice if the prices were lower so a family of 4 wouldn't have to pay almost $25 to get ice cream on a nice day.“

Got the pastrami, which is one of the few sandwiches served hot! As an Asian I gotta admit I have never gotten the allure of a cold sandwich, so maybe that’s part of my sandwich gal conversion. Warm, spicy, saucy, and the bread is PERFECT and crunchy and airy.

My partner and I were full when we arrived but ordered a sandwich anyway; we were gonna eat just half of it and save the rest for later but nah. After he took the first bite, said “this sandwich will make you hungry.” Truly it did. IT WAS INHALED.

SERVICE: ok! They said it’ll probs take 20mins for our sandwich so we walked around Alamo for a bit. But came in 20min later and the sandwich was there for a while so maybe just wait around if u prefer it warmer, rather than leaving.

ATMOSPHERE: ok basement! Why not? Does the job. There are two benches outside to eat at, + the park right nearby. Bring a picnic mat if you want! We just ate at the children’s playground. PLUS POINTS: great coffee spot in this basement. Got a gingerbread latte. Was awesome!“

The person running the shop is a wonderful person to speak to. While he made my sandwich, many people came in and had entire conversations with him. He knew at least half of them. “I stopped in omw home from the post office...I was craving a pastry but the savory smell was too enticing to ignore. Once the fellow at the counter (I'm thinking proprietor) told me that they bake their bread fresh daily, I was sold. I asked for a recommendation, (which, in spite of his best efforts and cheerful patience as I tried - first to pronounce - and then memorize the name of the dish, completely eludes me now) but it was their specialty; a hot sandwich on warm soft flatbread with a mysterious selection of melted cheese, lamb sausage (I think!) and an egg omelet.
