“In the charming downtown of Essex, CT is a little coffee shop located across the street from the historic Griswold Inn.The coffee quality is exceptional here. With beans from local coffee roasters you really can’t ask for more. The staff are very accommodating, and the cafe clean. This spot is truly a hidden gem if you haven’t discovered it yet, I’d recommend moving it to the top of your list!“
“Pictured was their two specials one was a meatloaf sandwich and the other was a grilled cheese. Great little sandwich shop in Essex. Little on the pricy side but quality of food was very good. Workers seemed to be having fun so that was also great to see. Will go back for sure! Would recommend to anyone who loves good lunch food.“
“A very cozy and a little kooky but in a very endearing way. i had the Et Tu Bruno Wrap (chicken caesar) and it was very good i would definitely get it again. my wife got the Tomcat Turkey sandwich (think thanksgiving meal between bread) and we both LOVED it. we both will be back and are excited to try more of what they have on the menu.“
“I am not from this area, but I stumbled upon this little coffee shop in my travels. I was warmly greeted, and they took my order immediately (this was 11am so not a rush hour for a coffee shop) and they made me one of the best lattes I've ever had. Had great flavor, and was nice and hot. About the same price point as Starbucks, but worth every penny to support a local shop. I would recommend a stop here!“
“What a pleasant surprise! We have been visiting our son for years who is part a program for disabled adults. We are foodies and have never been impressed with any food on the shoreline. This brunch was beyond all expectations! We will definitely be back.“
“A non-descript shop that shares the building with an electronics repair store. Felt like going back in time! Went late morning on a weekday in mid-February. They were out of our favorites so had to settle for for other limited options. Service was OK but the inside could use a lot of work. It didn't feel dirty, but didn't feel clean either. Donuts were $2 each and decent. Definitely larger and better than DD. No oily or chemical taste, and cooked to a nice crisp. Filling was tasty, but not abundant and there was none in my first few bites.“
“Adorable shop with classic and unique flavors based on the season, all so creamy and delicious! You cannot go wrong here, and they offer ice cream flights, loaded sundaes, and large milkshakes, all for very reasonable pricing alongside classic cup/cone options. Friendly staff“
“Was traveling for work and stopped at this adorable little shop with a great purpose. The employees were warm and welcoming. There is plenty of room to work, enjoy time with family and friends, or eat. The ambiance is beautiful with lots of plants, activities, and great lighting. The cappuccino and bagel I ordered were both delicious!“
“I've been getting my coffee from Deep River Roasters for years now, I used to roast my own or have it shipped from assorted roasters around the country. As a pretty big "coffee geek", I can say after trying everyone in CT that I have found, and quite a few places overseas, that there is no place I would rather get my coffee from. You're not going to find anyone around here with fresher roasted beans, or more care put into them. Fantastic coffee and fantastic people, who will certainly go out of their way to make sure you enjoy your coffee. Do yourself a favor and go now! Unless you're too far away, then check their website, because they also ship their beans!Parking: Huge parking lot at the Witch Hazel Works building.“
“Go...taste some of the best cheese selections this side of the Atlantic . Let the wonderful owners suggest something , but don't stop there...browse the chocolates and pastas, the jams and ready to bake pies, ice cream and so much more...like sourdough and baguetts. It is a Hidden gem .“
“Had an amazing brunch special today! By far the best sourdough breakfast sandwich toasted with arugula, egg, avocado, bacon and cheese. Cash only, but worth the extra stop at the ATM. Fabulous food for the price and super friendly staff! New to the area and this is going to be a weekly must!“
“I was in here to poke around to Pick up a few little things for stocking stuffers. Lots of old fashioned candy I thought I'd order a couple sandwiches to go seeing it was getting close to Dinner time . I'm so very glad I did! I got a Rueben with Pastrami on a hard roll and a Black Forest Ham with lettuce and tomato, cheese on a hard roll. Best sandwiches we had in a long time. The service there was OUTSTANDING. Such very nice people. I haven't been here in a long time, but I'll be back for sure. The selection of sandwiches is great and they also have soups and many other things in the deli too. If you get a chance stop by you will be very pleased“
“The coffee/espresso is really good and they have lots of cool options. I got the Aztec coffee which she explained to me was hot cocoa coffee and it was delicious! My boyfriend got the s’mores coffee and was also a big fan. They also have some awesome soda options and a cute atmosphere. The one downside is it’s a little on the expensive end, but worth a try for sure!“
“My wife and I headed to Old Saybrook for Sunday breakfast. There are many options in the center, and this little place caught our eye - so we gave it a whirl, and we were not disappointed! The Nutty Joe Coffee ☕ is off the chain stupid delicious ?; we could drink cup after cup after cup... and still want another cup! I had a bacon, egg, and cheese on a bagel w hot sauce - spot on. My wife had perfectly poached eggs and a delicious banana muffin... no complaints. The gentleman working the grill was fantastic, and sitting outside was just the topper to our wonderful experience. If you haven't been, get there; you will not be disappointed.“
“There’s such a variety of yummy treats at Essex Chocolates! I always find something to enjoy for myself or a gift to buy for a special occasion. They have a nice range of items from homemade to name brands to novelty. The handicap entrance is next to Scotch Plains Tavern; the entrance just outside the chocolate shop has a few steps. Plenty of parking on both sides. Check out the local handmade gifts or just stop in for a beverage or ice cream!“
