“We went upstairs to the covered and heated rooftop bar. There were tons of board games to choose from so we decided on trivial pursuit. The beer selection here is phenomenal and I tried my first Lagunitas hoppy refresher, a non alcoholic zero calorie sparkling water with the flavor of refreshing hops! It was the flavor of beer without the calories or the alcohol, brilliant! Our bartender was super fast and very friendly. A great spot to check out if you're in the neighborhood.“

“My colleague lives in the area and invited me for a drink and I had never heard of the spot. It was chill around happy hour, kinda empty. Classic dive bar. The beer was cold. By the second drink the place started to fill and it seemed like the male/female ratio was very lopsided to the female persuasion and at first I was like “cool”, and then I reeeally took it all in and started to wonder if I was at a gay bar (which is still totally cool). Maybe it was the vendor selling “Dyke” merchandise, or the fact that for once I was able to enjoy a drink without being bothered by strangers or crowded by yuppies. Either way the atmosphere was conducive to minding my own business and having a good time. The outdoor area is great. The upstairs had vendors with various art and wares they made. I have since learned that the event was actually “Dew Drop’s Dyke Party”. I would gladly come to another Tuesday “Dyke Party” if it’s always so chill (albeit not very diverse). The downstairs also had a bar and around 8 there was Christmas-themed live music of the R&B/Soul/Jazz persuasion. This crowd was substantially more eclectic and in my subjective views couldn’t be categorized as homogenous. Free live music in DC is unheard of so I was extremely gracious. My only complaint is that this is a dive in the heart of the dmv that doesn’t serve National Bohemian. But I have since learned that they allow dogs so I won’t hold it against them.“

“I walked by the door a couple times trying to find Ivy and Coney, I had not been since before the pandemic. Attended networking event on a Thursday, good space inside and upstairs (heaters on the rooftop). Friendly staff and good beer options - if you are in the mood for a pilsner, I recommend Three Floyds Speed Castle. My colleagues enjoyed the food but I didn't try anything.“

Jimmy Valentine's Lonely Hearts Club Bar • $
1103 Bladensburg Rd NE, Washington

“Jimmy's spot always got me feeling some sorta way. It's perhaps the best bar in DC for fools like me. It gets two very important things right: the sound system is magnificent (make my body move in ways I didn't know it could) and the drinks are spot on. And not to mention the DJs working their black magickry with their mixes.“

A very nice atmosphere, good service and a few pints of Guinness which did us really good.“

Raven Grill Bar • $
3125 Mt Pleasant St NW #101, Washington

“I came here with some friends after a wedding welcome drink celebration. We wanted a chill place to catch up and chill out. This place is a cash only, divey kind of bar, no big frills and no fuss. If you don't have cash on hand, there's an atm inside. My friends and I ordered beers, rail drinks, and a cider. I was afraid our group of six wouldn't find a place to sit, but a larger group left around the same time we arrived and we were able to grab their tables. Though, I'll note it was papacies on a Friday night. The ambiance is hometown neighborhood bar! Everyone is super nice and bartender was calm and attentive even though it was busy. While I didn't see they offered food, they did let us bring food from outside late at night. So that was nice of them. Def recommend!“

Reasonably priced drinks for the area, karaoke, and and an owner who was involved in helping out behind the bar, changing kegs, in the kitchen, and conversational with guest. If you need a break from the pretentiousness of DC this is the spot.“

We were able to sit on the patio because it was just gorgeous outside, and the vibes were immaculate. If you love people watching and dogs, the patio is the place for you! As far as food, we ordered the brunch burger, breakfast burrito, and a couple bottles of mimosas and everything was so delicious! The staff is super attentive and the wait time for food and drinks was super short, the servers are great! Will definitely be coming back for brunch more often!“
