“As a person who lived in China for several years, I was so excited to find this pocket of authenticity in Newark! In addition to a refreshing feeling of a real Chinese restaurant, the menu is packed with delicious regional dishes from China. The staff is also incredibly kind. They are willing to answer questions for those who are unfamiliar with Chinese cuisine, and they even offer some Americanized Chinese dishes for those feeling a little nervous. Don’t be silly though, make sure to try the dumplings!“

“Very nice owner. Has a loyal clientele, as I've often overheard her greeting customers by name. :-) Their eggplant in garlic sauce and sesame tofu are my go-to's (I don't eat meat). Their sesame tofu has a nice crispy-not-too-soft texture, which I love. They always ask if you want sauces and chopsticks, which I really appreciate (as I don't like to avoid wasted packets and single use plastic). Take out only. The plaza that it's in can only be entered & exited on the Wilmington-bound side of Kirkwood hway.“

“We had ordered the meal special, bone in ribs and pork lo mein. The ribs were out of this world. Fried rice was absolutely delicious and the lo mein was stellar. Would absolutely recommend this to anyone looking for really solid Chinese food.
Parking: Plenty of parking seeing as it is a small shopping center.“

“I have eaten here frequently during my time at UD. Never once disappointed in the food, it is always very consistent and very good. Plenty of vegetarian options as well. The kung pao tofu and hot & sour soup are my go-tos. The price to amount of food you receive ratio is one of the best in town. Highly recommend!!“

“My favorite Chinese take out food! If you're looking for a cheap yet delicious meal, look no further! My personal favorite items include the hot and sour soup and the roast pork lo mein lunch special, which I have ordered multiple times! The only issue I've had is with consistency and wait times. Sometimes the food isn't as fresh and as well seasoned as other times, but the food has never tasted bad. My advice: order the lunch special & order via phone or their website ahead of time!Lastly, I think this place has the best hot and sour soup in the area, great balance of flavors and good portion of meat. Also, the lunch special contains generous portions!!“
“Despite the recent negative reviews we decided to stop in to give it a try, We ordered 2 small pork fried rice, 1 large chicken fried rice and 2 vegetable egg rolls, the totally was just over $29. Overall the food was good! No complaints about anything, and they give a large quantity of meat in the rice too! I’d recommend stopping by if your in the area.“

“I've been coming to Joy Garden for decades now - living right around the corner and moving in to my childhood home has allowed me to share with my family some of the restaurants that I've always loved.Joy Garden was always a reminder of the way Chinese Food should be. I've traveled a lot over the years and I always find myself comparing other restaurants to this place. No one has been able to live up to them. With that being said, I've noticed a definite down-turn in quality in the past few years. This restaurant has been run by the same family for several decades - I always recognize the woman who I've seen for years, who is always a joy to speak with, and I've even now met her son taking orders, which is always a pleasure to see the family continuing the tradition of their hard-worked business!I believe that the economy has caused an uptick in cost; however, the increase combined with a lower-than-expected quality has been a sad disappointment. The restaurant is in dire need of revamping, and I would normally be able to look past this for quality food, but I'm left lacking from what they used to be.Perhaps changes in food regulations have contributed to recent changes, possibly Covid issues have affected the way things are done... this restaurant still offers "steamed chicken dumplings," which are near-impossible to find elsewhere... but things simply aren't the same.I couldn't imagine finding another place to satisfy my needs, but rising prices, lack of transparency regarding pricing and an overall change of food-quality, I cannot in good conscience rate them as highly as my nostalgia would wish.I wish these folks the best and hope for better days. I will still continue to patronage this establishment but hope they find a way to bring things back to their golden age so that generations more can enjoy the quality that I had come to rely on.Please do continue to support these wonderful people, as they are truly great what they do!“

“We love to pick up happy hour sushi from 2-4:30. The crunchy roll is our absolute favorite sushi roll. The incredible roll is pretty much a hairy Mexican, another staple for us. We also always get the gyoza-basically the fried dumpling version of a chicken nugget.“

“A Chinese food takeaway that has been operating in Capitol Trail Newark Delaware for over a decade. The taste of the food was so mediocre that it could even be described as shoddy. The reason for giving them a five star rating is that they solve many of the workers' daily meals and are affordable. The Chinese are hard-working, and even the epidemic has not stopped them from moving forward. We need to applaud their professionalism.???“

“I want to start by saying I love this place- it’s a family favorite in my house. Today’s experience has gone above and beyond. I am so thankful and appreciative of the service that I was given today. I wasn’t feeling too well today and slacked on ordering dinner for the family. We decided on Chinese at 9pm. Knowing they closed at 9:30pm I gave it a shot and called. They said they would gladly be able to make our meal but asked if we could be there by the time that they close at 9:30. Living only 5 mins down the road I assured them I would be there in time. Little did I know we would get into a car accident. After calling 911, I called to make them aware of the situation. They offered to hang around until 10pm. As we waited for the cop to finish, it was about 5 til, so I called the restaurant to pay over the phone and asked if they could just set the food outside for us because I didn’t want them to have to wait any longer. As we pulled up there at 10:05pm, they were waiting outside for us and immediately asked if we were okay. I apologized and thanked them for checking in and waiting for us. I wanted everyone to know how great they were. Getting back in the car I began to get teary eyed because I couldn’t believe how kind they were and how the first thing they asked is if we were all okay.
They will forever have my business!
Thank you guys again so much for your great service!“

“I highly recommend the guo bao rou (sweet and sour pork) and the liu rou duan (sautéed pork) at this restaurant. It’s probably the best Northeastern Chinese cuisine in the Greater Philadelphia area. I heard from the owner that they might be selling the place soon, so make sure to enjoy it while you can. Don’t miss out on this gem!“

“My boyfriend and I came here for a bit to eat after our shopping we did and the food was great, you get a pretty decent sized portion of food all for a good price. One thing I will say is the selection of drinks isn’t the Best but as a whole the service was great and the food was excellent. Will be back again!“

“Saw my colleague eating beef with broccoli and asked him where he got it. Drove 10 minutes here and ordered the chicken with broccoli & fried rice for $10.50.Good portion size and the broccoli is quite fresh. The quality is better than I expected for Chinese fast food. Don’t expect authenticity.Pretty busy but the line moves quickly as they have a staff jotting down your order on the take out container once you hop on line. Smart move ??I’m happy with the meal and would come again to try the chicken teriyaki.
