“I've been a Kaya's Store customer for over 70 years, from back when it was a small general store providing Punalu'u families everything from hardware, ropes and wire, screen, fishing tackle and glass boxes and spears, plumbing parts, cook- & table-ware, groceries, local fruits and vegetables, kerosene, paper kites and string, Duncan yo-yos, gasoline & oil, cold drinks in a iced cooler and treats for kids like popsicles, li hing mui, red ginger, rock candy and candy bars. Kaya's was always a warm and welcoming place, run by a wonderful family. Family members knew their local customers by name and offered helpful advice and tips on home repairs, fishing, gardening and recipes for local-style dishes. Today, they offer an array of superbly-prepared dishes for breakfast, lunch and dinner. My recommendations are too plentiful to list - one should order with confidence, you won't be disappointed. My advice is to keep coming back and try them all! Kaya's also offers a helpful array of well-chosen foods, drinks and staples for weekly sustainment or for those quick, last minute items to complete a meal preparation. “In planning to relive a memorable dining experience and coming from Waikiki, I did not want to come up to Hauula just to get a plate of food. I did a Yelp search and this was one of two businesses that had a 4+ star rating so I bookmarked it as another stop. Using Google maps on my phone, we reached here a little after 11 am on a Monday morning. A gentleman was seated at one of the tables under the tent who we later learned is part of the business. As we walked up to the truck, we read the menu posted on the truck ( After reading it, I asked the lady who manned the truck for her recommendation and she answered without hesitation. A few minutes later, we both were under the tent and eating our spicy garlic lemon shrimp plate ( At first glance, I was surprised by the size of the shrimp which I would almost categorize as prawns. Need proof of how much I like it... burp ( The sauce was delicious and not overly spicy. My experience with shrimp truck plates is limited as I've only dined at that famous Haleiwa one across from the McD's as you enter town. I liked this more and the accompaniments were certainly more interesting... I enjoy canned corn and don't start me about pineapples. The sweetness of both contrasted well with the tangy, spicy, garlicky sauce on the shrimp and my rice. Before leaving, I was curious and asked the lady's nationality and name. Big thanks to Ms. Zhao or Zhou (sp) for steering us to an enjoyable lunch (she's from a Northeastern province in China). “New favorite restaurant. Seriously. This experience could not have been better. Right away the shrimp shack staff were kind, welcoming and friendly, it'd be hard not to be happy in such a beautiful location, right across from the beach with the breeze coming off the water. This spot has a fantastic menu, the three of us went with two plates to share but we could've downed four plates easy. Their coconut shrimp is one of the best bites of my life, served with a mango honey sauce that it SO GOOD and they're being SO CHILL about selling it, they could put up a sign or something to let people driving by know they have maybe the best sauce I've ever had. Their garlic shrimp was great as well, the Mahi Mahi with grilled onions was the other star of the day, I suggest loading up on coconut shrimp and the mango sauce, as much of the mango sauce as you can get away with, and Mahi Mahi and enjoying it all as we did at their tables by the sea. A beautiful experience. This place is a must stop.”

“Came here at around 6:30 pm after the closed because yelp said it would still be open (yelps fault), but the owners were came out to check on us and asked us what we wanted. Beef Pho was legit with lots of noodles and meat. The mango sticky rice was really good. They also helped turn on a light for us for the outside seating area while we were eating .”

“big j's combo (4.8/5): comes with rice with pulehu ribs and garlic shrimp. the ribs were AMAZING! they are thick and grilled/charred perfectly, i would come back just for these ribs alone. the garlic shrimp was too mayo-y(?) for my liking, but the actual shrimp were a good size and so good! great option to get if you want surf & turf, but the ribs are where it's at. when i came here in august 2023, the restaurant was to-go only. they had a table blocking the entrance to the restaurant, where a staff member would take orders and payment. the woman who took my order was so so friendly! since you couldn't enter the restaurant, there was only 2-3 tables outside where everyone shared seating. i highly recommend this place if you're used to eating the standard thin galbi ribs, this will change your life!”

“I live in the area and finally got to try their food ? Their pupusas are made fresh, so were still nice and hot when I got home to eat them (to go aka take away). They were $6 each (not sure if they change their flavors but today was bean and cheese, and chicken and cheese-I hope i got those right). The taco plate was $16 (2 tacos, rice, and beans). The tacos were different(looked beautiful but were ok-not bad, not great). I was the only one there, around 3pm Friday 11/10 (day before Veterans Day). I got the Jamaica drink and it was fine (honestly I’ve never cared for Jamaica but haven’t had it in a while lol). “This is the luau to go to in Oahu! The reviews I read before were accurate! The experience, food and “cousins” were all fantastic! The show was amazing and the cherry on top was access to the botanical gardens and water fall hike. Can’t beat that and much more authentic than your typical resort luau!”

“This place is a must visit! Took my pup here for their free tractor tour ride and we had such an amazing time. Their cafes are run completely from everything grown and made at their farm. We had the açaí bowl and it was deeeelish! The farm is super cute and has a nice lawn with ample seating so you can enjoy your goodies. Totally worth the long trek from town.”

“In videos I've seen and when I went, they only ever have ahi tuna, which is great. Don't get me wrong, but it's not really a "choice of protein." The staffer we met was really nice and accommodating of any questions we had. The flavors are really strong and come through, so just make sure you like everything in the sauce you choose. Crab mix and avocado are available add-ons if you want them (not listed on menu).Parking: The sugar mill and the food truck court are actually connected so lots of available if you miss the first entrance you can go to the second.”

“Wow! I actually couldn’t stop eating and I was full. It was amazing! We also had the pepper jack cheese bomb that’s battered. It was so crispy on the outside, and still so soft and moist. It was perfectly done! My husband and I both left so happy with what we had ordered. The atmosphere was perfect, easy to get in and out. The staff was super friendly. “It was a cold day on the beach but warm more inland and found this spot while looking for a bite to eat and had to stop after seeing the cane juice sign. It was super refreshing and served with the island hospitality which is my favorite thing about HI...oh and the sunsets.”

“I think this place is so cute, to be honest I was kind of ignoring it because I figured it would be a huge tourist trap with that uninviting feeling, but I was definitely wrong! It gets a lot of foot traffic but the atmosphere remains so relaxed and friendly and open. The owner encourages you to try samples of everything; coffee, his chocolate covered coffee beans, etc. I got to try a few different things and it made for great conversation. Plenty of parking and plenty of seating all over the farm. I think this is actually my favorite place on island for a nice sit down and unwind :)”

“Stopped in for a bite after snorkeling yesterday. The service was great, the place was really clean and the food came out in less than 10 minutes. We got the Katsu Mac n cheese balls and the Kaluha pork quesadilla. Both were cooked perfectly, not greasy and nice size portions. A great little find!”

“The best noodles in Honolulu ever. The broth was light but at the same time super delicious. It was not complex and just dreamy. I was craving for more after eating this. Aside from the highlight, the runner up dishes that I tried included the beef stick, small but mighty beef on a stick. The musubi was also very good, perfect size. Overall, service was speedy, humorous, and nice. The waiter we had was just hilarious and welcoming. This place is literally in the middle of nowhere, but this isn't your creepy restaurant, this is a cozy, sanctuary for your noodle cravings . Coming back on my next voyage to Honolulu.”

“Kilani bakery is an icon in wahiawa. This is a family run bakery for over 60 years.Turn on my favorites is the Danish custard. It's very full of custard. They have glazed donuts, chocolate top donuts, and the chocolate brownies are awesome. It is best to go early in the day cuz by 11:00 they run out of pastries.Well that's a good sign people love their food. But if you go too late, there won't be much left. “Here you meet the most lovely people in Oahu. The servers are sweet and kind. We are sipping shaved ice mano passion fruit and drinking coconut milk from the coconut, and listening to music and Israel's version of Somewhere Over the Rainbow, and a Wonderful World. I became immediately sentimental with this beautiful rendition of such a lovely song, bringing a gentle tear to my eye, as I remember thankfully, the beautiful moments, bountiful and joyful days of my life. The food truck, up the street from the hotel a few miles, Da Bald Guy had fabulous thick and spicy, super tasty salmon.We loved our food truck experience! “A nice place to stop on the way to the North Shore. In addition to the restaurant, inside there is a gift shop and jewelry counters. We ordered the half chicken plate and the shell-on garlic shrimp plate, which were each $18. Chicken was cooked well and had a subtle sweet smoky flavour. I recommend the shrimp too, which were buttery, garlicky, fresh, and plentiful. The mac salad was the best I've had on this trip so far. Loved that they have lots of seating inside and big bathrooms to wash your hands before/after your meal. Will definitely come back.”
