“It’s a great spot to grab coffee, an acai bowl or pastry in the morning as it’s open earlier than everywhere else on that side of the island. The folks working there weren’t super friendly any of the days we visited. The location is beautiful.”

I admit that I’m a bit of a foodie and I’m always looking for new and tasty places to eat. I have even traveled abroad in anticipation of experiencing the local cuisine.

I was originally introduced to the world of phở by a Vietnamese friend a lifetime ago. I have been exploring the variations of the iconic dish ever since. My favourite restaurant in the world is Vietnamese-owned and operated, back in Canada.

While visiting the Islands, I only recently had occasion to spontaneously stop and try “Pho Vientiane,” a long-time frozen-in-place food truck—secreted along the Kamehameha Hwy, Hauula - on Oahu’s North Shore.

I was more than pleasantly surprised by the quality and selection of Vietnamese street food this wonderful eatery was offering.

The proprietors of this humble food truck were quintessentially customer service-focused.

The menu options are impressively diverse, especially considering the size of the space in which they are stored and prepared. The service was impressively expedient, and the quality and generous size of the offerings were extraordinary.

I was sufficiently impressed by Pho Vientiane to offer up five stars for the authentic tastes they offer. They are every bit as addictive as those I experienced in South Vietnam - back in the day.”

“This is a spectacular bakery for both savory and sweet tooth fans. We came here specifically because our dog's name is Kiwi and how could we not try it out? This is not a sit and eat kind of place but a grab and go kind of place. You are making the drive not for the ambiance but for the food itself. We got a mix of mince and cheese pies and chicken curry pies, as well as their sausage wrapped in pastry dough.

I can easily give the chicken and curry pie 5 stars, but the mince and cheese was even better. Both very savory, and the crust was still flakey and the pies were still warm by the time I got to our rental after walking 15 minutes in the rain. This is definitely a repeat worthy place.

We got cream puffs for desert and they didn't disappoint either. Flakey dough, chocolate drizzle on top.

Service was very fast as we were the only ones there but as we were leaving a family of 3 showed up. I'm not sure how much the tiny shop makes in a day, but several of the meat pies were sold out. We arrived around 12:30 on a Thursday.”

“Delicious food. We were on the hunt for Thai and no other restaurant worked out. So glad we found this one!!! Food was hot and cooked to order. Spice levels were spot on and flavor was fantastic. Gotta give this one a try! I recommend the shrimp fried rice.”

“I was 9 years old in 1964 when we visited Oahu. Coconut Joes is my favorite memory. I'm glad to see it is still there although it has changed from a hut made of chicken wire covered by vines to a modern building. I'm wondering if they still have a myna bird somewher on the property. My brother and I loved that bird.”

“So good! Driving up to the North Shore from the airport we wanted something local. Family owned. No frills just awesome chicken. So juicy. We all had sandwiches and the pulled chicken is more like chunks with some pulled. Not overly shredded. And not doused with sauce. Just a nice enhancement. We had the melts and they were delicious. The bread is crusty but soft inside. An easy bite. And my son loved his Cajun fries. Off street parking in the rear.”

“My husband and I had such an amazing experience really, everything about this restaurant is so Ono! Such a nice owner and his team are all on point. Food is so fresh and flavorful the drinks.... ohmygosh they are incredible really. Top level everything about this restaurant will bring you back trust me on that. We tried the wings with harbenero and it had a lil honey to just make them perfect, the fried pork belly was light and crispy we really enjoyed everything. Especially the staff they are so welcoming. We found our perfect spot for great grindz and cocktails the are top level....RJ makes a mean smoked Manhattan and we also tried the gum sour which was a variation on the whiskey sour made with bubble gum liquor i think... Definitely bringing all of my family and friends here! TY”
