“Bun Bo Hue is the best! It never fails to disappoint with the services, the atmosphere, and never had to wait in line for a seat because I always get there before the rush starts anyway. Overall, I would recommend stopping by if you’re in the area.“

“This place was such a great find on a rainy day! We ordered a pho and shrimp spring roll noodle -- both were delicious and tasted authentic.
The owner was also so considerate; he gave us a list of Big Island recommendations and noted the ones that would be great to bring our 2yo to! He also gave the kids balloons, which are always a hit. We'd definitely come back next time we're in the area.“

“Stop here for breakfast and try the different foods. The food was amazing and the staff were very helpful when helping to pick out what we wanted. A full box and 2 juices was only about $17 so worth the price! The photo here shows how excited we were to dig in and not capture all the food! There isn't places to sit and eat but we found a nice park to enjoy it at.“

“Had the wat u min saimin and it was amazing! Broth was flavorful and light, and noodles were good as well. Portion is huge! Also had a pancake and when they call it a “famous” pancake, I can see why. The pancake was so fluffy and delicious, easily one of the best I’ve had. The pancake fills a whole plate. Service was kind. Menu has a lot of options, and everything looked good. Definitely worth it!“

“Mahalo nui au i nā wāhine o ka Papa'a Palaoa Bakery ma Hilo, Hawai'i. They assisted me in providing a whole lilikoi pie to bring home to San Francisco. They fully wrapped the box in plastic to keep the pie protected, so I could then place it in an insulated bag and surround the box with frozen ice packs. The pie (as well as a cinnamon roll) made it back home just as "hou" (fresh) as when I purchased it, me ka pilikia ole (with no problems), and the pie tastes 'ono loa. I am very grateful for their assistance, and especially their kindness. I highly recommend this bakery to everyone who wants fresh baked goods, but most of all, I am very grateful to the Aloha given by their employees. Mahalo nui loa!!“

“Best pancakes! The three syrups are to die for. Macadamia nut pancakes with a little of each of those, I wanna crawl inside and eat my way out of it. Fluffy delicious egg omelettes. The service is wonderful. We were there for 10 days and ate at Ken’s three out of the 10. It probably would’ve been more if I had anything to say about it, but it was almost a 40 minute drive from our Airbnb. 100% worth it.“

“Crossed the big island from Kona after a morning of caving and hiking. Found this place on google and happy to report the food was plentiful and amazing. We ordered fresh fish, two of the specials, chicken katsu. Plates included a large helping of rice and salad with a clearly homemade yogurt dill dressing. Happy to recommend!“

“I had the Bibimbap which had some wonderful authentic ingredients. I also enjoyed the Bingsu too. Definitely, ,not a "fast food" type Korean cuisine. It's also a very cozy, small cafe with a friendly staff. Will definitely return again.“

“The sushi, teriyaki chicken and udon noodles? Absolutely top-notch. Each piece was a masterpiece – fresh, flavorful, and beautifully presented. The chef’s attention to detail was evident in every bite. I highly recommend trying their dragon roll, which was an explosion of unique flavors.
The menu also offered a great variety for all taste preferences, including vegetarian options, which was a pleasant surprise.
Overall, Sakura Sushi is a must-visit for sushi enthusiasts. It’s clear they take immense pride in their craft, and it shows. I can’t wait to return for another exceptional meal here in Hilo.“

“The Thai food here is great! The satay chicken was tender and perfectly cooked; even though it’s an appetizer, I made it a meal by adding jasmine rice and extra peanut sauce. The Dirty Thai Tea was also worth trying. My husband ordered the yellow curry, which came with rice, and the flavorful, spicy kick was just right.“

“Big fan of Hā Cafe in Hilo because of their serious attention to ensuring food is vegan, and for me, egg-free, as I also have a severe egg allergy. From all of their desserts being entirely vegan and gluten-free (20-30 different bakery items each day), to their smoothies and juices being 90% vegan, with the exception of honey in some premade juice or dairy that can be substituted in smoothies, and a separate vegan menu for sandwiches and toasts, they are doing very well! They know each and every item in their foods and menu and are hyper aware of cross contamination. Plus everything is delicious and served with aloha. Can’t go wrong here.“

“Had lunch here 2/3 days that we were in Hilo, everything was amazing. The Misoyaki Butterfish Salad was fresh and extremely flavorful without being heavy, and the fish melts like butter in your mouth. We also had a cold water scallop special, an eggplant /marinara/pesto/ricotta appetizer (forgot what it's called, oops!) and crab cakes. Everything was great, honestly one of the best places I've eaten at on the entire island. I like to sit at the bar, as I'm a former long time bartender. Sascha is one of the best around, cocktails were, again, among the best that I found on the island, including Kona. Service was top notch, no matter how busy he got, and he took extra time to modify one of the house cocktails so that an elderly gal with sensitive teeth sitting nearby could enjoy it. I would honestly make the drive from Waikoloa just for this, but Hilo has plenty of outdoor activities to offer as well.“

“Awesome drive in walk up window service style food. The best French fries around and tasty burgers. They have local favorites as well including breakfast. Outside dining only or food to go. Popular with the early morning blue collar workers and always seems busy for breakfast and lunch. We went before the lunch crowd showed up so service was pretty quick. It was a little more expensive than I would have expected. Two burgers, 2 fries, and 2 sodas was around $35. However, I will definitely be back and look forward to trying their Loco moco next time.“

“We have been enjoying food from Aloydee’s Thai Food for many many years. This is one of our favorite take out lunch spots. At times we would eat here multiple times a week. It’s right next door to the Hilo Farmer’s Market. One of the most underrated, off the beaten path lunch spots.
We usually take out, but there are also limited shared seating in a common area used by other little food spots in the area.
She has an amazing menu and everything always tastes so ‘ono (delicious). She has all kinds of noodles, curries, fried rice, papaya salad, summer rolls, Thai tea and veggie dishes. I’ve never had anything on her menu that I didn’t like. My young children also love her food and will even request to eat there.
Some of our favorites:
Pad Thai
Yellow Curry
Green Curry
Curry Noodles
Drunken Noodles
Lots of people LOVE her summer rolls and green papaya salad. You can get the spice level as you prefer.
You can call in your order ahead of time and have it ready for pick up, but only if you are certain you will pick up as she is a small business that could not eat the costs of no shows for food already cooked as she prepares everything fresh.
Wait time is usually around 15-20 minutes, sometimes little bit longer if it’s rush hour, but always worth it.
Vegetarian options: Green Papaya Salad, summer rolls, and you could probably make other dishes vegetarian if you just make the request.“

“Delicious pho with large portions. The spring rolls with peanut sauce are great; just ask to have them made with tofu. Servers are vegan-aware and can show you how menu items can be made vegan, if you ask. EDIT: fried tofu is not vegan at this point, due to the batter! double check with your server when ordering Updated from previous review on 2022-10-14“

“This place is fast and the service and taste are consistently good. Some of my favorites are the fried tofu curry, spicy ramen, teriyaki chicken, mushroom skewers, miso eggplant, and potstickers. They make a pretty brownie sundae for dessert. There is an ice cream place next door that is open during the day too. They are open on Mondays which is notable in Hilo. We like to make reservations here for family parties, but there are usually tables available for walk-ins. You can definitely eat here during your lunch hour. This place is very clean and quiet with pleasant instrumental music.“

“Just stopped by to order a quick lunch and was so pleasantly surprised with our food. Chicken ginger lemongrass plate and spicy chicken rice plate. Both came with a very tasty side salad. So much flavor for lunch. I also order a fresh sugar cane. Will definitely be back to try the Pho.“

“Great sushi at a really fair price! Everything is freshly prepared on site, you can practically see the chef doing it.
It seems to be exclusively food to-go, but that doesn't bother me at all.
We actually ate the 30 pieces menu as a couple and were pleasantly full.
I can really only recommend it.“

“So....I've passed this place for years and somehow never eaten here, and finally we did.
I am a huge fan of places that serve kimchi fried rice...it's one of my favorite things to eat. You have to love kimchi to like it... keep that in mind.
This one was solid, but I was really surprised about the teriyaki chicken...honestly it was one of the best I've eaten in Hilo town. I highly recommend this dish if you like the rice, but if not, the chicken was yummy, can't go wrong with that!
My husband ordered the mochiko chicken.
The plate sizes are way bigger than we expected, so it makes the price seem reasonable.
I couldn't stop eating his lol!!! It was super crispy and moist on the inside....I definitely couldn't make it like this at home! So we both ? recommend the mochiko chicken.
Honestly, I can't wait to go back...the menu is huge! JAPANESE AND KOREAN and some American things for people who would rather have that. Go check it out.
Do keep in mind this is a local place, not fast food... so have patience with the servers and know it's worth the wait if you go in during a rush time when it's full.“

“Small, cozy place. I got a bento box that was ready to go and some spam musubi. The meat in the bento box was delicious! I really liked how the bento boxes were already created. I think you can get custom orders, but I like the grab and go option.“

“My fiancè decided to take us here since we don’t have any place like this in Kona and he knows I LOVEEEE my Korean bbq food (especially meat jun lol). Walked in and you can tell this place is on the older side. Customer service wasn’t GREAT but it was okay. The banchan selection was great & soooo yummy that I’m craving it just typing this out. My fiancè ordered a plate of bbq chicken and a plate of meat jun. I think the girl misunderstood because she brought out a combo plate. Combo plate seemed to be of smaller portion compared to most korean bbq places and our meat jun wasn’t cut up like most places serve it. Bbq chicken was also very thin (also not used to that). But flavor of both were yummy. Will probably be back here next time we go to Hilo.“

“One of my favorite go to places for ramen, udon, yakisoba, fried rice, chicken katsu curry and more. I love everything here. Great food, lots of flavor, umami everything ! It's great comfort food ! The portions are awesome , everything's fresh and you can tell they make their own noodles, broth and soy eggs. Highly reccomend this place for everyone who enjoys japanese style ramen.“

“It's tiny and you'll miss this restaurant, if you're too focused on the obvious dining places. This tiny "hole-in-the-wall" serves authentic and distinctive Thai. Whether it's the peanut sauce, Thai iced tea, soups or fried rice dishes-no losers yet discovered on this menu. It has become a regular Hilo stop when we're doing the Farmers Market.“
