“Their sushi cake exceeded our expectations. It was so delicious and almost too pretty to eat! The 2 guys working when I picked up were awesome! Super friendly and one even took the time to show me the cake and gave tips on how to cut and eat it! Their customer service from ordering to pick up was exceptional!“

“We had an amazing Omakase experience here. The food is creative and each course different from the one before. Especially loved the lean tuna and the shrimp, but it's hard to choose favorites when everything was so good. The background music was great and the conversation with the chef and other patrons very lively and enjoyable. It's a gorgeous, modern room. We've been here on prior Honolulu vacations and I'm so glad we came again this time.“

“Chef Ray makes the whole experience so much fun and definitely worth a visit. He’s very knowledgeable of all things sushi and omakase and makes a very intimate and small experience feel fun and not awkward at all. Be prepared to EAT! So much food and it’s all the most incredible sushi I’ve ever had.“

“Craaaaazy good omakase. It truly felt like we were back in Japan. This place is well off the beaten trail, seats 12, and is tucked away in a seemingly mostly empty shopping center. Don't be discouraged. The moment you open the door you're transported to a wonderful little sushi bar. Staff was extremely friendly. Omakase options come in $100, $150, and $300 offerings. We did $150 and were satiated, leaving full but not stuffed. The menu was interesting and unique, making dinner feel special.
I can't recommend this restaurant highly enough if you're looking for a unique experience - and want to get out of the touristy side of Waikiki.“

“Came here for lunch over the weekend. The service felt like an educational experience as well, as the host showed us pictures of what the fish looked like with each course. All staff were friendly and accommodating. There are 4 designated spots for parking right beside the restaurant. The fish was fresh and tasty. Definitely worth the visit.“

“Some of the best sushi you will ever have... Owner and staff are extremely friendly and welcoming, and the sushi/poke is outstanding. Aloha Sushi is a must visit for local, fresh, amazing sushi, and if the sushi doesn't make you want to come back for more, the friendly owner/staff certainly will.“

“The walk up to the bar itself is beautiful and a must do at least once, staff is always friendly and food is beyond delicious. I definitely recommend to try the Blue Crab roll or if not a big crab fan, or looking to try a few things at once the 4 ROLL SET the bar recommends is a GREAT place to start!“

“Who would really expect good sashimi or sushi outside of mainland Japan? But this place was different. Having traveled around the world and tried Japanese food in countless places, I can say this experience came very close to what you’d find in Japan itself. If you’re getting tired of Hawaii’s salty, greasy, and monotonous food, I would highly recommend this spot.“

“Ginza is in a new location between Whole Foods, Gentlemen's Warehouse and L&L. The new location is larger than the Ward Center spot and parking is easier in the back since D&B moved to Ala Moana. The food is still as fresh as can be and tastes great. I ordered the Nigiri Deluxe Set which combines 9 different pieces of nigiri with 9 pieces (3 grouped sets) of sashimi. This was perfect for a huge appetite like mine and it comes with miso soup and pickled appetizers. There are other sets available for nigiri sushi, sashimi or chirashi also. That final star will come when the liquor license is approved or transferred and alcohol is added to the menu. Call to see if BYOB is available.“

“This place should be rated WAY higher. The rolls were FRESH, the rice was HOT; they even used real crab in their rolls! (I don't think I've ever had sushi made with real crab before)
I WILL SAY-- they're only cash. But that doesn't matter when the food is that great.
Perfectly filled my bf and I for lunch for $13.“

“We were looking for a hip, modern sushi spot that would be a little different from the usual Japanese restaurant—and Kanoa Sushi Grill & Bar absolutely delivered! We brought our auntie here to celebrate her 90th birthday, and we wanted somewhere fun, fresh, and memorable. This place was perfect. The atmosphere was lively and unique, the food was outstanding, and the service was top-notch from start to finish. Everyone made us feel welcome and helped make the celebration really special. We had such a wonderful time and will definitely be coming back!“

“Not far by car from Waikiki! I think this is the only place where you can get takeout and great taste at a reasonable price! I was surprised at how friendly the Korean owner was! When you eat it, you’ll be surprised twice by how delicious it is! If I get the chance, I want to come to Hawaii and eat there again! :)“

“Edomae-style sushi omakase with great sake-pairing options. Top-notch varieties of fish and delicate prep for all of them.
Very high-end, expecting at least $600+ per person for the pairing experience and extra dishes to feel full at the end.“
“This might be one of my favorite if not my favorite sushi omakase places in town. Every single item was delicious and enjoyable. Nice intimidate ambiance without feeling restricted. Chef Hide and our server Katie were friendly and they joked around with us and the other 5 diners that night. The price was the standard pricing for omakase these days $150pp. Yeah so it was a perfect evening!
Chef Hide started off with an appetizer with crab, amaebi and abalone with liver paste. The crab was alright but everything else on that small plate was delish. I never had liver paste to go with abalone, what a great way to combine savory with sweetness! The items we had included shima-aji (striped jack), king salmon, deep sea bass, Japanese sardine, flounder with shiso, Mehikari (greeneye fish) tempura, chawanmushi with ikura, shrimp, crab and fish, uni nigiri, Hotate, toro, tsuke-maguro, Kaua‘i shrimp with garlic uni butter, temaki with chopped toro and pickled radish, and finally miso soup to conclude our 15-course meal.
First I gotta say the fish was of high quality cut by a highly skilled chef. There wasn’t even a small bit of stringiness to the fish. Every piece was melt in your mouth with the best cut. I initially was taken aback by being served salmon, but that piece of king salmon was very fresh and delicious. I was pleasantly surprised by how good sardine tasted. I thought it would be smelly and fishy but it blended well with the other top quality sashimi. It’s my first time having Mehikari. It’s fried whole and the whole thing including bones and head were all edible. It’s crispy on the outside and the meat was soft with a light sweetness. Very enjoyable and a good break from all the raw stuff. I’ve only made fried shishamo myself before and initially I thought that’s what I was served, but luckily it’s not so I could have a new experience. Now it made me want to try frying Mehikari! Their chawanmushi was one of the best I’ve had because it had the perfect consistency - not too watery and not too thick but still smooth. I appreciated all the goodies inside as well - all seafood! The uni was of top grade - not melting to liquid, sweet, savory, could be more firm but given the time it took to ship from Japan to Hawaii, we can’t expect it to be super duper fresh but still very fresh! I normally don’t like maguro coz it’s not fatty enough, but the cut was really good, smooth and melt in your mouth, great taste with the marinade and the jalapeño sauce as well! The garlic uni butter also went really well with the crunchy cooked Kaua‘i shrimp. And finally the temaki (hand roll) was the best hand roll I’ve had. Chef was fanning the nori over an open flame to make it extra crispy. The chopped toro and the pickled daikon together made a great flavorful combo. I thought my hubby was eating chips when he bit into his hand roll!
It’s rare for me to love everything I ate at a 15-course meal. The food, the ambiance, the service, and how it’s so convenient at the mall as well. The only downside was the lack of bathroom inside the restaurant (you have to go to the mall or other stores for it) so make sure you go before you start a 2-hour meal. I usually would wanna try a new restaurant especially if it’s a special occasion meal, but I might just come back again because I don’t know if I will like other sushi places as much…!
ありがとうございます Chef Hide and Katie for a wonderful evening!“

“It was a genuine privilege to watch a master at his craft. The food was fresh and delicious, uniquely prepared in front of you. The restaurant is a discrete and intimate experience with only 10 seats (6 at the counter to watch the chef).
We had the 21 piece option and it is truly worth it.“

“One of my favorite sushi spots! Super affordable, you can absolutely keep it below $15 per person depending on what you order. They have less expensive rolls that are more simple and are around $6, i usually get some of the fancier ones which range from $10-$15. My favorite is the spicy ahi tempura roll, though the Diamond Head tempura roll (first picture) is also SO good. The lava tube roll (second picture) is great as well, the green onions add a really bright flavor to it. Great variety of sushi rolls and poke bowls to choose from, I've really enjoyed everything I've tried so far. Service is always pretty quick and the staff are friendly and polite.
Parking is quite limited, though you might be able to find street parking in the area. There's 3 indoor seats and two or three tables outside the shop, so finding seating is really just dependent on how many other people arrive at the same time as you. The shop is a 10 minute or so walk from the beach, so you could also walk down there for a scenic meal.
Highly recommend this place!“

“The best Seafood Tempura in Hawaii! Scallops, calamari, shrimp, crab, ahi & assorted veggies. Light, crispy and cooked to perfection. Highly recommended!!! Ask for lemon & salt for all the seafood, if you want to take it to a higher level. I learned this from a tempura bar in Japan.“

“Wow!! We got recommended to go to Kats Sushi by 2 locals while on our trip to Oahu when we asked for sushi recommendations so had to try and were not disappointed!
We got an assortment of their hand rolls and also nigiri and it was hands down the best sushi we’ve ever had as well as the best meal we’ve had on the island! Such a wonderful restaurant filled with kind, hardworking people who take such pride and joy in sharing their delicious craft of sushi with others. A must try, cannot recommend enough!“

“Vegan Options! We got the vegan inari in a burrito. They had 3 sauces that were vegan - an onion dressing, green sriracha and a white tabasco. They said the green sriracha and white tabasco were spicy, but I didn't feel that way. The white tabasco was delicious.
Would def recommend, split it with my boyfriend and was very filling!“

“Omakase is special here. Everything had an extra element of nuanced flavor and treatment that is uncommon if not rare to find in most other sushi restaurants. You can tell by the first plate you're presented as starters. Tiny place, so plan on getting to greet and chat with others. But the dinner I attended here we ran into only cute families with cute kids.“

“While it's tucked away in the center, this place is hidden gold!
The attendant in the front was super nice and was patient with me while I looked at the menu to figure out what I wanted to order.
I ended up ordering the banana cream matcha latte and a beef don, but was a little sad that they didn't have anymore banana cream, but I was offered the pistachio cream instead.
OMG, the pistachio cream on the banana cream matcha was sooo good and I'm glad I ordered it!
The beef don was pretty good and worth the price:)
Heartbroken that they don't have a location on the Westside, but I would without a doubt make the drive for both the food and service🫶🏾
Overall, I highly recommend SushiMan!“

“Located inside the Central Pacific Bank Plaza at the back corner where it says Aloha Beer (but it's bento actually).
Quality sushi! It's in a casual setting, but the quality and taste are not casual. There were many things I wanna try but finally decided on doing the chirashi bento.
Delicious and fatty fish! One thing you can tell if this place has good fish or not is by trying their red tuna. Quality places would give you a nice cut that's bright red with subtle mild fish flavor. Budget places will give you tuna that has a lot of ligaments and almost no fish flavor. Their red tuna was good, along with the ika (squid), negitoro (minced tuna), some fatty white fish, hamachi, crab meat (with light mayo), salmon and shrimp (although I wish it was amaebi instead). Their rice was also yummy with good seasoning and al dente texture.
Prices were not cheap but not ridiculous. I paid $24 for my bento, wish there's just a little more seafood. They have other options that are more affordable.
I went during week after 12:30pm and there was no line. I just walked up to the kiosk to browse what they had and placed my order. The card machine on the left of the screen also takes tap payment. There's also plenty of indoor and nice outdoor seating.
Would definitely go back if I want some sushi for lunch!“

“This is a small but very solid Japanese restaurant. Although it is called Hana Sushi, they also have udon noodles, tempura, and Japanese appetizers which are delicious. You can always count on their sushi rolls being extra fresh and also an unusual combination of flavors. They also have traditional nigiri sushi. This place is BYOB but there is a Safeway next-door where you can get your own wine or sake and bring it in. Dont let the atmosphere fool you- the food is excellent.“

“Never heard of this restaurant but so glad we tried it. The happy hour (4-6pm) was a fabulous deal. We enjoyed the delicious sushi, refreshing drinks, and tasty desserts. They are converting the hotel now so it's rinky-dink to go through the hotel and down steps to get to the restaurant but worth the hassle. Highly recommend for anyone looking for a quality meal in Waikiki for a very reasonable price--for Oahu. It was our anniversary and then presented us with a free dessert...which was also very nice. Service was wonderful; they were constantly refilling our water glasses. Their suggestions helped us decide what to order. If you don't mind the inconvenience of a hotel under construction (restaurant was very quiet) we highly recommend.“

“I wonder why they serve human food but have the name “fish food”? hm, the world may never know. anywho, i had the spicy ahi bowl (?) that came with rice, some fish, and 2 pieces of gyoza with sauce. the fish was good and had the spiciness of a 3.5 on the caucasian scale of spicy; has a little kick but won’t make you cry out for jésus or anything. the convenience of having poke on base was amazing but the portion size was not! $15 or so for a small bento sized meal is a little pricey as poke bowls at foodland are about $5 cheaper and they give you more fish and rice as well. For the size of fish food hawaiis spicy ahi, i have attached a pic to show the size with an ice breakers ice cube gum for a scale (didn’t have banana for scale)“

“Found this small restaurant as I walked around the area. Prices have increased from the menu I saw posted on here. Most are three dollars higher. There is a small seating area and I suppose you can eat there but this seems more like an order and go type of place. Food is decent. I found the portions to be spot on. I couldn’t finish my bento box and I took a bite of the poke bowl my wife ordered. Both were good. Fresh stuff. I’d recommend for sure.“

“They really do excellent roles, the middle is very simple, like a street restaurant in a plain picture, but the sherbet music is really relaxing, they are the waiter and the restaurant manager, in my opinion, did their job professionally, with business sensitivities, and served without breaking protocol, they really followed the protocol more than I expected, there are also old ladies there in the kitchen, of course they did not follow the protocol, but they were very sweet people, I really liked the place, to be honest, instead of losing money to expensive restaurants, trying such places gives you the chance to taste better food, I think“
