“Visited this place for the first time - and honestly it was the highlight of my day even before I got my take out order. It’s hard to find- but the best restaurants sometimes are. Super clean and cute inside- with a great soundtrack playing. The front clerk was so gracious and warm to everyone. Though I could have ordered ahead- the wait wasn’t very long. The burrito had to weigh about 2 pounds- it was definitely enough to feed two- and it was sooo good. The sauce on the side was fire 🔥 (literally too hot for me). But while some like it hot, anyone who likes good Mexican food is going to love Barrio Cafe.“

“I stumbled upon this page on social media and I had to come and try the pork belly tacos on my vacation to Hawaii! We actually went on their last day that they were open in the restaurant. The tacos were so delicious. I was so sad we couldn’t come back for more the next day. So we went ahead and ordered some more😅“

“Been seeing this on my uber eats offers for weeks and figured why not try this place in person. While finding it in the lot was a tad hard at first this place is worth it and then some. For a legit hole in the wall spot their menu is definitely the most expansive on the island from nachos to postres and drinks. I ended up getting a carne asada fries, California burrito, and a horchata all benchmarks I use to try places. I debated getting fried ice cream too but I'm glad I didn't pull the trigger since the portions were so massive unlike what pictures and prior reviews mentioned that I was full in no time flat. Taste was impeccable with clear separation of ingredients and proper ratios of everything from sauce seasonings and meat. I loved every second of eating it and it used my remainders as extra salsa for my burrito. As for the agua Fresca you almost always can tell if you know what to look for what is a cheap powder Fresca to one that is either done in house to a keg and I was happily impressed it was nicely made and separated again well. Everything came out super fast and the server was quite nice and we even talked the whole time I was there. For value for a place like this looking at the menu not changing its price at all since pre Covid is quite good in these times and worth a stop if not for the food for the people and the nice dessert selection. Move away serges this place is easily #2 arguably #1 on island in my book and will be for you too!“

“Wow, wow, wow! This was definitely a highlight for our family’s’ trip to O’ahu. Excellent service and consideration of food allergies. I was nervous about the feast with all my daughter’s food allergies. They immediately brought me a guide and let me daughter go first through the line! Performance, Polynesian history and food were all wonderful.“

“Variety of items. I ordered a pork sandwich and a lot of the contents fell out. However, there was still plenty in the sandwich. Halfway through I wasn't sure if I could finish it but it was so delicious that I did. The soda I bought was delicious also. Never had it before. Sangria. “The most delicious tacos I’ve had in Hawaii, period. I had one chicken taco and one steak taco. Both tacos came with homemade pico and homemade guacamole, and all the salsas at the open salsa bar are also homemade. You add your own cilantro, onions, salsa, hot sauce, and lemon or lime—everything is there. You can really taste the authentic Mexican flavor that you’re not going to get at some of these other fancy restaurants. I’ve honestly enjoyed these two tacos more than many fine-dining places I’ve eaten at here. I wouldn’t call them childhood memories since I didn’t grow up in Mexico, but they remind me of happy memories from time spent in Mexico. It’s a small food truck in a parking lot, a one-person operation, cash only, $5 per taco. There’s one table with five chairs, and napkins and plastic forks are self-serve. If you want truly delicious, street-style Mexican food, I can’t think of another place in Hawaii that comes close to these tacos. 6pm-11pm Tue Fri Sat. Cash only. BYOB.“

“This place was amazing. I had a carne asada burrito with beans, cheese, sour cream and onions and it was spectacular. The beans are some of the best I have eaten and the sour cream had a hint of lime. The burrito was grilled to a golden perfection and 10 inches long. The salsa will set your face on fire. The people were lovely. And the prices were reasonable. I will be returning.“

And it’s byob with no corkage fee, making it great for a chill spot to hang out. I think that if you come here with an appropriate set of expectations for a neighborhood Mexican diner, you will have a good time.“
