“First, be patient. You will wait a long time to order (45-90 minutes) and another 10-15 minutes after ordering before you get your shave ice. But it’s definitely worth it. OBISIC is the best shave ice on any of the islands. What sets them apart is that you can choose any of their ice cream flavors, including local flavors like ube (purple sweet potato), haupia (coconut pudding), and several others; and in addition to the typical syrups you find at other shave ice places, OBISIC also has natural fruit flavors and flavors like green tea. You can also get toppings like mochi, boba, shaved coconut, and a lot more.“

“This is my favorite place to get fish and chips on the island. I make it a point to go at least once every time I come to the Big Island. My friend had the crab cakes and said they were delicious, as well. Fair prices and yummy food. There is a gazebo with ample seating if you choose to sit by the man-made lake and enjoy your treats. Be aware of the birds who have obviously been fed by previous patrons-they don't really bother you, but they do fly around and sometimes give you the side-eye for not feeding them.Parking: Lots of parking for the Kings Shopping centerKid-friendliness: They have a small Keiki menu.Wheelchair accessibility: There is a ramp to get to the restaurant.“

“Arvo in Waimea is a nice and quaint cafe that is pleasing to the eyes, ears, and mouth. As soon as you walk in, the staff is extremely friendly and welcoming. The menu is simple but has everything you may crave. I tried the Nutella Toast and Smoked Salmon Toast. They were both masterfully made and well-presented. They looked like works of art and tasted great. I also tried an iced vanilla latte and that was nice and creamy, not too sweet, and delicious. The atmosphere is peaceful and relaxing. It seems like a great place to study or do work. There's plenty of seating indoors and great outdoor seating as well. All in all a great cafe with nothing to complain about.“

“Food truck located at the Midweek Farmer's Market (on Wednesdays). Definitely wish we knew about the ordering ahead, because it takes forever, but it's certainly worth the wait. The Reuben is unbelievably tasty. One of the best we've ever had. Pro tip: If you wanna make the most of your time, hit up Red Barn right when you get to the Market; place your order; and then bop around the market as there are some unique vendors that you can't find anywhere else. The people working the truck are super nice and friendly. Thank you“

“I never review anything online, but our family's experience here was special and renewed my faith in humanity. When we got there, the man behind the window asked what both my boys wanted, but I told him that I only had enough for one shave ice (it's cash only). He then said that he would give us 2 anyways! It was such a sweet gesture. A lesson to us all, and my kids especially, that kindness is something we should practice more often. Oh, and the shave ice was great and he gave me a spoonful of coconut ice cream too which was wonderfully sweet and creamy. Please support this place.“

“Delicious breakfast sandwiches. We had the croissant sandwich with spam and spicy mayo and the waffle sandwich with the same combo. The meat to egg to “bread” ratio was amazing across both sandwiches. And the scrambled eggs are some of the bet we have had with soft custard-like folds. We saw some amazing looking açaí bowls coming out but were craving a hot breakfast sandwich. Service is a tad slow though very pleasant. Good food does take time…“

“This place has the best atmosphere you could have in a coffee shop. If you been to Starbucks. You will never want to go back. The food is amazing and always fresh. FRESH! Starbucks has so much trash waste because it's all processed frozen food. I see the employees make me food from scratch!! Amazing!!! Kua Swell bubble drink so freaking good. The service is unbelievably considerate and nice. They would even answer questions outside of Coffee. Very informative. I got there pretty late and I was having a good drink and food to eat. Apparently food ended 20 minutes after I got my food. I came back to get another drink. It then got ruined by a really rude customer... I asked him about his intel hat because I really wanted one like that! He told me "find it yourself, I work for intel." I was like uh ok it was just a question. He then proceeded to harass the employees! Like dude why are you yelling at the people who make your food? The sign clearly says closing at 4pm. The way the lady worker didn't raise her voice and tried to help with all his concerns while he was snapping at her was beyond comprehension. How did she have the patience for him? I had to speak up and explain to him "they are closing up so some things are closed, for someone who works at intel how can you not process that?" He then made more things to complain about. The umbrellas was one of them. They didn't even buy anything and didn't even sit outside... they were at this point loitering.. I was able to look up who this guy was.. apparently a mean doctor and a teacher. A lot of people talk about how rude he is to his employees and students. I believe them. He made my drink sour but honestly other than that weird encounter.. I'm going to complain to the intel higher ups about this guy since I work with Microsoft. Thank you Mauna lani for your amazing service!“
