Ice Cream Shops near Johnston

“I spoke with 2 people yesterday who assured me that my complaint and refund would be handled in a timely manner by the location that the problem occurred and still have not been contacted. I was on a road trip home and stopped at a location near Des Moines, Iowa. We stopped on 3/11/2025. I placed an order online at 4:22 pm. We pulled in shortly after and proceeded to follow the instructions of pulling into a stall, checking in on the app and putting in the stall number. The progress bar showed the order was sent to the kitchen. About 20 minutes had gone by and still no food had come out, the drive thru line was moving slowly, so I didn't want to bother the employees if they were short staffed or overwhelmed. 40 minutes had now gone by and I decided to hit the red order/call button. After about 2 or 3 minutes, a lady got on the intercom and asked what I wanted. I proceeded to explain I had checked in for a mobile order and then she right away told me to come inside. I thought that was a bit strange since it's employees only and the kitchen where non-workers should not be allowed for sanitary reasons. Once I came in, she asked what I wanted to order. I explained that I had placed a mobile order and had been waiting 40 minutes. She then scrolls through the screen and tells me that they don't have ice cream. If they knew this as soon as the order was sent, why did someone not come out and tell us. 2 items that were placed had ice cream in it, so I asked if they could just refund those. She then tells me that they can't refund anything and that I would have to request it in the app. I then ask if I can just get a soda to replace the specialty float they couldn't make. She reluctantly said yes after asking if I was going to request a refund for both items they didn't have. After explaining that I have been waiting for 40 minutes, not one of the 4 employees in the store offered an apology or an explanation why my food and drinks had been sitting and not brought out. The girl who initially told me to come inside, instead of grabbing the drinks and handing me my food, she proceeds to complain about the shift and tells the other employees to clean up and she leaves. The guy working the drive thru is saying how the day had been slow, which if that's the case, why am I being asked to come into the kitchen to grab my own food after 40 minutes. I eventually had to ask for my bag of food and multiple drinks because, although it's painfully obvious that I am inside the location that I should not be in, waiting for food that apparently has been made but nobody wanted to bring out, even though that is their litteral job. I get my food and by the time I get back to my car after all is said and done, it has now been 50 minutes from the time I placed my order. Needless to say, the food was cold, soggy and gross and the drinks were completely watered down. But after the interaction that was just had, I wasn't about to ask for it to be remade because at this point I had been in my car with 4 kids driving already for 6 hours, with 4 more to go and this had already set us back almost an hour longer than planned. I contacted someone by phone as well as the texting option and both stated they could not process a refund but would escalate my complaint and have the management contact me. I stated multiple times I did not wish to speak with anyone from the stores location due to the extreme unprofessionalism of the staff. The food was not able to be eaten on top of items I did not receive and feel that it is more than reasonable to expect a full refund.“

“The ice cream was tasty, but the real star was Joanna, who was working when my family stopped in for ice cream on Friday. Jo was working the shift by herself - taking orders and payments, scooping and mixing treats, and delivering the orders. The line was out the door but she was efficient, accurate, and friendly. She kept the line moving, was calm and collected, and had a smile for everyone.“

“I am a huge fan of their ice cream and the pricing for the sizes that you get! Tonight i decided to take my 21mo for her first ice cream trip and I got her the Pineapple Dole Whip Twist with Vanilla Ice Cream and I obviously had to sneak a taste and safe to say IT WAS AMAZING 😍 Definitely a summer must! The pineapple flavor was sooo good and not fake or artificial at all and my daughter loved it! I ordered my usual snowstorm with vanilla ice cream, cheesecake, peanut butter and caramel and still good as ever. I am so glad I saw that one guys tiktok review of this place because it's a 4min drive from me and I had never heard of it until I saw the tiktok about a month ago. This will be my go to ice cream/sweet treat stop from here on out and I look forward to continuing to do ice cream trips with my daughter as she grows! Employees are so nice and very helpful and the environment is very nice and family friendly. I like that they have outdoor seating as well!“

“This place is the best i honestly can’t believe ive never heard of this place before, my car broke down on the side of the road due to a popped tire, this girl with glasses waiting outside to clock in walked out of her own car to lend me a hand and completely changed my tire on her own in return i offered her 80 bucks but she said no and it was just a kind gesture i went inside got a couple of snacks for my nicks and the food is just so amazing they can’t stop eating it.“

We have loved getting ice cream from Outside Scoop for years, so we felt it was the perfect idea to have them at our wedding as well. “I made an order to pickup and when I walked in the door there were 5 employees and not a single one acknowledged me in any way. Not one smile or even eye contact. They were all very busy working and I get that but it only takes a second to acknowledge a customer. The cookies look fantastic and taste amazing. No complaints about the product but I do think the customer experience is not great due to being ignored by the staff.“

The only downside to this crumbl bakery would be the location it is in such a bad spot and the parking is always super busy and very tight. I’ve almost been hit multiple times by people parking basically on top of my car.“

The catfish is crispy and crunchy 🤤from the Mac and cheese to the collard greens to sweet potatoes everything is superb and delicious and so delightful. The only reason us not a five stars is because personnel does not do very well cleaning the place. Bar was crumby and floor very sticky, tables are not cleaned right away. If they address that the place will be a five stars.“

“We love ice cream in our house, so we visit Baskin-Robbins frequently. The Ankeny staff are always so kind, and one staff member recognizes me when I stop in. I got our usuals tonight, and they remembered that I used the drive-thru last time because I had my dog with me. They asked about him and even packaged up a pup cup for him!“
