Chinese Restaurants near Calumet City

“This is a Panda Express. I frequently start with this refrain, but bear in mind that when I look over a restaurant like this, I am comparing it to other examples of similar restaurants (Fast Food/Cheap oriental fusion) and not against higher end Mandarin restaurants in my area. If you are in a Panda Express and expect what you would get at a fine location like the Mandarin place down the road? I don't know what to tell you other than "It's a Panda Express, dude."

So, with this said? This is a better Panda Express than I usually run into. Their food is kept hot, regularly restocked, timed and checked for when it needs to be replaced. I had no issues with the quality of the food whatsoever, nor the prices (You come here, you know the prices. Corporate sets them.). The dining floor was clean and the staff were quick and attentive.

The guy at the counter was clearly new, but he's still learning. We've all started out and are like "Hey, dude, where's this on the register?" Just hang in there and you'll figure it out soon enough.

Only complaint: The flowers on the tables are goofy. But that's a personal taste thing.

Vegetarian options: There are clearly enough vegetarian dishes, but honestly the selection is a bit on the low side. Then again, if you're coming here, you probably already know that.“

“I am so glad they were able to reopen. Due to the passing of the previous owner last year, they closed their doors. My husband and I had just discovered them and was so excited to find a Chinese restaurant we truly enjoy. The very next day January 1st 2024, they announced their closure ( we get Chinese New Years Eve and we got it from here). “I was in the neighborhood, so I decided to try this place for their lunch special. It comes with shrimp fried rice, combination egg roll, and a few options for a main dish. I ordered the Mongolian beef. It was tasty, tender, and a bit spicy. The food was fresh and delicious. However, I do wish they had shrimp egg rolls as I’m not a fan of the combination egg rolls. Nonetheless, I enjoyed everything for just under $10. I will definitely go again when in this area.“

“They have very good Chinese food compared to some we have eaten at. We had broccoli chicken with chicken fried rice and egg drop soup. It was very goodFYI: If you like your food very spicy, they will honor your request. We like ours real spicy, so I ask for it to be 3 times Xtra spicy for the main course and even the fried rice, and they will do they for you. We've gone to many Chinese restaurants throughout Chicago, and we like them. We've gone neck because it's close to where we live.

Parking: It's next to Pizza Hut. The parking lot is small, but there is extra parking by the Pizza Hut.“

Is this some secret haute cuisine spot hidden in plain sight?Naw.But I'll say this: Eat Rice has served my family meals for the better part of 5+ years (if not more). The prices are fair, the portions are large, and the quality is always as desired. The menu is traditional American/Chinese fare: egg rolls and other fried apps, soups, and pork/beef/shrimp dishes abound.The staff is friendly and efficient. There's parking across the street. Parking: It's a staple in the Roseland neighborhood and in Chicago period. Known for they're fresh and crispy fried chicken wings, they're great with sweet and sour sauce.

“chicken fried rice had no flavor, all i tasted was eggs and bean sprout. Their crab ragoons are okay but the sauce they give you with it is like jelly its super thick likes it syrup or something. They're very fast at serving you your food, but they lack flavor and are cutting corners with their store bought sauce. If i wanted to eat over priced ragoons i couldve made them myself. The workers are great but im not crazy over the food. Its edible that's about it

“First of all, if you want Chinese take out for less than $10 for a combo plate, you probably are thinking pre covid prices. However if you want your stir fry on a budget, you can have it here. The combos during the lunch hour are around $8 before taxes without drink.

For that price, the food is pretty good. Portions are a little smaller than some places but still filling. Flavors are lighter, so if you want a kick, ask. The egg roll is a little soft inside but decent. Above, for a price below what you will pay at EVERY FAST FOOD PLACE NEARBY, you get good fare. ( sorry for the caps, but I read a few reviews and people are just too demanding these days.)

Staff is undermanned, so expect a wait. You pay in time, not so much in dollars. No dine in service, but this is common to all chinese take out locally at present (deal with it. Most of you whiners don't understand price point at restaurants.). The staff, however, is very friendly and accommodating and will work with you. You can't ask for more.

Seriously. It's chinese stir fry on a budget and it delivers on that promise. Worth considering for a lunch plate.
