“I’d been wanting to try Yao Yao for a while, and it was worth the visit. The space is modern with a menu centered around its signature pickled fish soup. The portion was huge and the broth had a satisfying spicy kick. I also loved adding the vegetables to soak up all the flavors. The twice-cooked pork was another solid dish. While the menu is more compact than other Sichuan restaurants, this is the spot if you are craving pickled fish.“

opon our second visit we also ordered the dry chili chicken, flat rice noodles, sichuan wontons, and wonton soup. the egg drop soup was the only we didn't like but everything else was 10/10!“

The owner, cooks and wait staff were all extremely friendly and made each of our visits a wonderful experience. The shrimp were easy to peel, the crab had real flavor, and the sauce clung to everything without turning heavy. “EDIT: Eight more years have passed and we’re still regulars about quarterly…the staff now recognizes us if it’s not too busy! They’ve steadily spiffed the place up decor-wise, and have moved the stage to their third floor to maximize dining space.
Fine place, come here several times a year for dim sum.“

“This is actually one of our favorite restaurants in Chinatown, it’s really underrated.

They have a great selection of breakfast and Chinese dishes: the Chong Fun (rice rolls) and Sauerkraut Fish are some of our favorites.

There’s also a good selection of drinks.

It’s a huge plus that they aren't as crowded or hectic as other restaurants in Chinatown Square.“

“This was my third time visiting, and my second time visiting with my husband. On our first visit and today’s visit we had Jose as our server. Jose was so friendly, attentive, and thoughtful. He had asked my husband if he wanted a disposable bib since he was wearing a white shirt (which we thought was hilarious) but he explained that it was from personal experience and I would’ve never considered something like that for this type of meal, my husband accepted the offer and needless to say his shirt was spotless and mine was not. During our first visit we had our 2 toddlers with us and he never made us feel uncomfortable or overwhelmed because of the kids and was very understanding and respectful. Both the clay pot rice and bbq duck are great! The bbq duck is probably the best you can find around Chi town.
