“So delicious and so special to us!!! Black Dog Gelato is incredible - truly the best in Chicago. Every flavor is amazing and their team is impeccable. My husband used to live by their Damen & Iowa location and then we lived together near their Logan Square location when it was open. Our first date ended at Black Dog, and our dog is named Gelato (nicknamed Jelly). For our wedding this year, we had Black Dog in place of a wedding cake. They were so excellent to work with for this event. We had three of their standard flavors and one special flavor, which was “wedding cake” aka birthday cake without the sprinkles and with an added “Jelly” swirl. Everyone was obsessed!!! It was a perfect personal touch to the day and everything tasted SO good!!!“

“When I lived in Chicago, I loved going here. It was like time travel back to the Sixties (I didn‘t live during that time period but I could imagine…). Their strawberry/vanilla malts were to die for. Now and then, a skinny little boy was sitting all by himself at one of the tables, in front of him a huge serving of ice cream - was it their son or their grandson? I don’t know. But it must have been heaven for him growing up in an ice cream parlor.

“What an amazing ice cream experience! I wanted a little bit of refreshment on a warm Chicago afternoon while visiting the city. Jeni’s was close to my hotel (The Drake), so I gave it a shot.

The shop is in the little triangular park right at N Rush and Chestnut. There’s some pretty outdoor seating with shade, greenery, and birds. There are several trash cans available to conveniently keep things clean and employees were cleaning the glass on the doors while I was there. It’s clear they work to keep things tidy.

I had to walk to the far side of the shop to get to the entrance because they keep the traffic inside flowing in one direction. It’s a smart move for busy days! I was greeted when I came in, and waited in a line about ten people deep. The line moved well enough, but gave me plenty of time to read through all the flavors listed on the menu. I had four I was trying to decide between.

Once I got to the counter, they were eager to let me try the flavors. I was shocked that they use little metal spoons that you then deposit into a dirties bucket for cleaning. That was such a nice touch! Anyway, their friendly service sold me on a double scoop in the waffle bowl. I selected the honey vanilla bean with a scoop of the caramel apple crumble.

Once outside, I found a bench quickly and tucked into my treat. It was smooth and creamy, and loaded with rich flavors. The caramel apple crumble was a little on the sweet side, and the honey vanilla bean balanced it nicely. The bowl was crunch and flavorful, and paired nicely with the ice creams.

If you want a delicious treat while on the Miracle Mile, this is close by and a worthwhile use of your time.“

“La Michoacana Fresa is the real deal for a sweet treat. I grabbed a couple of their Fresas con Crema paletas—strawberry chunks swirled in creamy goodness. Also tried the Arroz con Leche popsicle; it was like dessert in a bite. The place is clean, the staff is chill, and the flavors hit every time. Spent about $15, and it was worth every penny. Definitely coming back for more.“

“Let’s face it. There are La Michoacana ice cream stores on every other block on North Clark. We stopped here for dessert and it’s easily our favorite! The helado (ice cream) is to die for! The coconut is outstanding as is Abuela’s Chocolate. There are regular flavors and some (Rum Raisin!) are so creative and delicious. And the paletas! The BEST Arroz, Fresa, Mango, Coconut...the list goes on. And the couple that run the place are just the sweetest people! Highly recommended.“

“I visited here yesterday for the first time and I absolutely loved it! First off, it has such a quaint vibe that is welcoming and calming. Then, the lady at the counter greeted me warmly and explained a bit about their options. I ended up going with a box of five truffles: traditional, cookies and cream, coconut, coffee, and strawberry. At first, I was a bit concerned about the price, but when I took that first bite, I realized it was worth it. Each of the truffles I tried were so delicious, genuinely the best chocolate I've had in so long. My favorite was the cookies and cream, as it had a perfect balance of the cookie crumbles with the chocolate inside. I also really enjoyed the coconut, which is saying a lot as I don't usually like coconut, but this truffle had the perfect amount of coconut where it was not overwhelming but complemented the chocolate. The worker also gave us a free sample of their fudge gelato which tasted great as well! She also mentioned that they add a little something special in the boxes if it's a gift for someone, so this would be a great gift for any chocolate lovers you know. Definitely worth the price and 5/5 stars all around, will be going back very soon!“
