“My adorable little niece turned 3 over the weekend and she could not get over her Barbie cake made by you guys!! Aside from the cake completely nailing the Barbie theme, it also tasted amazing!! Prior to this, my husband and I who live in Oak Park, have only frequented The Brown Cow for ice cream and shakes but now we will absolutely be coming here for cakes for special events!!!“

“My sister lived in Italy for a while, and we took her to Black Dog Gelato. After tasting three of the creative gelatos, she said that Black Dog has gelato as good as the best in Italy.

I haven't been to Italy very much, but there is little doubt that Black Dog may have the best gelato in Chicago. I can't say for sure because I haven't been to all the gelato stores in the Windy City, but they'd have to be five stars to compete.

When I first visited Black Dog, I tasted the pistachio gelato with pistachio bits on top and in the gelato itself. I like to test a gelatoria by tasting the pistacho, and Black Dog had me right off the bat. Since then, I've never been disappointed by their rotating roster of flavors.

The store even has a dairy-free Wednesday, and the gelato that day often tastes as good as the regular gelato.

The staff of primarily young women are welcoming and patient as you decide. They have characters that you don't find in customer service anymore: they seem to really like helping people! And they fulfill any tasting request.

Black Dog is located on a corner on Damen Avenue in Ukranian Village. It's an unassuming store that has a neighborhood feel about it.

The gelato shop appears not to have caught the eyes of the gentrification crowd. That's to the benefit of those who love it because we don't have to wait in long lines. That's their loss.

Black Dog may be a bit of a trip from the Northside, but it's tough to beat.“

“Margie's Candies has been scooping ice cream in Bucktown since the early 1900s, and walking in feels like stepping into a soda fountain that time genuinely forgot, red vinyl booths, vintage candy cases, and a counter where staff still mix everything by hand the old-fashioned way. The Beatles supposedly stopped here once, and the photos on the wall lean into that history without making the whole place feel like a museum instead of a working ice cream parlor.
We got the Atomic Sundae, which comes out in a shell-shaped dish big enough for two people to share comfortably, several scoops piled high with hot fudge, whipped cream, nuts, and a cherry on top. It's the kind of dessert that's a little ridiculous in size and exactly what you want from a place like this. We also tried a malted milkshake, thick enough that the straw practically stood up on its own, classic and not overly sweet. Someone in our group got a banana split, and the bananas were fresh and properly ripe, not the slightly sad version you sometimes get elsewhere. The hot fudge itself deserves a mention, dark and rich rather than sugary, clearly made in-house rather than poured from a jar.
It's a cash-friendly, old-school kind of spot, lines can build on a warm weekend, but it moves steadily and the nostalgia of the whole experience makes the wait part of the fun.“

“Anyone that gave Amorino or is thinking about giving Amorino less than 5 stars, has no idea what quality gelato is. The flavors and quality are superb! Better than any other place that exists. I drive from the northwest suburbs just for Amorino! Please open another location near woodfield mall! Or better yet, near Oakbrook!“

“Ohhh sweet summer flavors and memories are found at Xurro! They have a great menu of many ways to get your sugar fix from sundaes to smoothies and seasonal flavors too. You can even get a variety of flavors in your ice cream base, vanilla or strawberry or Superman! It being my first time I decided on a classic sundae with churros and I was pleasantly surprised. The churros are crunchy on the outside and fluffy on the inside and have the perfect dusting of sugar. It was gone before I made it home! A little on the higher side for price but it’s fair for all that you get.“

While consuming our food we also had the opportunity to witness how everyone was greeted and treated wonderfully. There were games available for the children to play it was very fun for our entire family. Just to share a little more about the level of attention we received my four-year-old was completely terrified of the Easter Bunny I was talking to her about how it was someone in a costume similar to when she dresses up in costumes or princess dresses staff was willing to take off the Easter bunny mask to ensure my daughter felt safe and secure this changed the whole visit for her she was no longer scared still very cautious but not scared and was able to enjoy eating her tamale♥️ I would most definitely recommend this place to others! ♥️“

“Let’s face it. There are La Michoacana ice cream stores on every other block on North Clark. We stopped here for dessert and it’s easily our favorite! The helado (ice cream) is to die for! The coconut is outstanding as is Abuela’s Chocolate. There are regular flavors and some (Rum Raisin!) are so creative and delicious. And the paletas! The BEST Arroz, Fresa, Mango, Coconut...the list goes on. And the couple that run the place are just the sweetest people! Highly recommended.“
