“I love this place. Plus they are SO EASY TO WORK WITH when you want to host a private event. Highly recommend for youth sports banquets and the like. It is not easy to find a place that is so accommodating and lets you use the AV equipment for free (to show game film or season slideshows etc.).“

“We are on holidays here in Chicago from Australia and I searched up Balkan restaurants as I knew there is a big former Yugoslav community here. I am Bosnian myself so I thought we’d come here for lunch. The food was absolutely delicious and exactly like back in Sarajevo, Bosnia. It is a family run restaurant serving up the best Balkan dishes. The cevapi, pljeskavica and raznici were excellent, as was the chicken Soup. Thank you so much. We randomly booked my wife’s birthday party here, admittedly because there was no contracted minimums and we didn’t want to be checking receipts all night, but the upstairs party space is the best. kept. secret. in all of Chicago. They just give it to you, small cleaning fee. And the space is amazing. Multiple rooms, private/amazing staff, private pool area with great second story views, dedicated speaker system. The drinks were amazing and the event concierge (Frank) will not rest until your party is the toast of the city. Food was also great! Everyone at our party said it was the best they’ve been to in a while. Secret is out. One of the best nights of our lives.“

“The perfect bar, I fear. I can’t believe I have ANY pictures in this place because I’m always just talking to someone or playing pool or queueing up songs on the jukebox. There’s something about this place that you can’t really take a picture of: the people are always friendly and chill, you can tell it has a low staff turnover rate, the food is ALWAYS good. This is the kind of bar which would be the ultimate muse for a poet from the 1800s. My one drink photo is an espresso martini that was made with love, but know that they put just as much love into every beer they pour. It just isn’t as instagrammable.“

“I've been here multiple times now and every visit is fantastic! Great beer and mixed drinks. Food and service is absolutely top notch. The best spot for Cevapi in my opinion. The shopska salad is fresh and addictive. The burger is delicious and the spicy sauce they add to it is a favorite of mine that sets their burger apart from the exploding smash burger scene. The schnitzel is also excellent. I highly recommend you check out Rosewood Tavern.“

“We had a wonderful time going for the first time for a friend’s birthday. Our server Micky was so friendly and accommodating! The owner generously comped some drinks for us as first time customers. The plantains with the onion-forward dipping sauce were phenomenal. The Brussels sprouts had a lovely balsamic glaze topped with creamy goat cheese. Several of us ordered burgers with side salads, and the greens were of high quality. The standard vinaigrette offered was a wonderful blend of tangy and subtlety sweet. The smash burger patties were cooked well with crisp edges while maintaining a juicy interior. The garlic parm fries had a crisp exterior and fluffy texture. Everything was phenomenal, and Micky even helped us with the cake our friend made and brought. Do yourself a favor and come check this spot out!“

“The Vegan Birria Tacos (hibiscus flowers, spicy dipping sauce, vegan cheese, cilantro, onion, elote salad) are excellent. There were some very interesting flavors, the tacos have amazing variances in texture and a variety of flavors in a bite sweet, sour, tangy and just a little bit of heat. Great rotating draft beer options. The decor is very interesting with a huge dragon artwork on the ceiling in the bar area. I can wait to come back.“

“Great local find! The patio/beer garden is dog friendly with a fire pit, TVs and really nice comfortable seating, plus lawn games connect 4. There was a nicer wine selection than I was expecting for a local bar. The inside design was lovely.

New menu just started and fried chicken sandwich was so tasty!! Menu is small but everything we had was very good.

“My friends and I have come to Southport Betty’s a few times now and we have always enjoyed ourselves, but after spending the better part of our day their yesterday, camped out for the Bears game, there are several things that now stand out to me that this bar totally nails on the head.
1. Good crowd control. They had a line outside and while the bar was packed (it was a bears playoff game) we weren’t like sardines smushed into the bar.
2. Ordering all your drinks at the bar instead of opting to have your table waited on by a waitress is such a smart move and they execute it well. We had a group of 8 people at our table - no worries about splitting bills at the end of the night because we had our own tabs at the bar. Same thing goes for the food.
3. We never had to wait long at the bar for a drink. It was chicago bears playoff game, as busy as it will get, and they maintained appropriate staffing so we always got our drink right away.
4. The entire staff was just nice. It’s not uncommon for bartenders to get short with you in a packed house, but seriously everyone who worked there was just genuinely nice.
5. The food was good. Better than average bar food for sure.
6. I love that the seats have backs. Sitting on a barstool for long periods of time usually end in me standing.
Overall 10/10 experience, this place is well run.“

“i’m writing this review as i’m still sitting in the booth because it was just THAT good.

i ordered the french onion burger with the regular fries on the side, and let me tell you i haven’t had a burger check every box like this one. the garlic aioli was the perfect amount of flavor to complement the caramelized onions. the bun was seemingly buttered and fluffy. and the fries!! they had a flakey salt with not one fry left unsalted. they were also thin and crispy to perfection.

the service was great and every staff member was always smiling. i never write reviews but this one felt very necessary. 5 stars from me!“

“This bar is so much bigger than we expected! Got the smash burgers, extremely pleased with them! And they have crinkle fries! Really good crinkle fries. This bar is part of the Chicago dive bar crawl, and it couldn't be more appropriate. The bartender was very nice, and he let me write the specials board for him! Absolutely worth a visit, really reasonably priced and delicious.

The front door is confusing, though. It looks like you're walking into a basement, but it is, in fact, the front door.“
