From the bartenders and door managers to the regulars (and of course, “Internet Dad”), there’s a genuine sense of community that makes you feel like you belong the moment you walk in. The drinks are reasonably priced, it’s dog-friendly, and you can bring your own food.

“Edelweiss is a pure gem and is THE best bar in Chicago. Laid back, friendly and a timeless classic former shift bar that now hosts a good mix of lively people. I’ve met one of my best friends in the city at this bar, spent birthdays, happy and sad moments here and the staff is just phenomenal. Olga is my favorite bartender in Chicago who has an incredible heart and makes you feel at home. Alex, who handles the karaoke machine is the best to sing your heart out with. I always bring out of town visitors, friends and loved ones here all the time, and is my space in the city. Businesses like this are the real soul of this city and in hard times and good times alike, they keep the city going…Have a Lvivske blonde and a Zubrowka in the front where you can mingle and sing, play billiards in the back, and have your intimate conversations in the really nice patio ;)“

“walked by randomly on a Wednesday and went to the bar where I heard some music. the band was excellent, a really unique style, but brilliant. but the best part was meeting Thomas, the bar manager. as soon as I walked in he greeted me warmly and upon hearing it's my first time in Chicago, a shot was poured and I got the lowdown on local beers. I had a good chat with Thomas and could see how he was well liked by everyone there. would love to go back“

“Keenan O'Reilly's is described as "a classic example of a Chicago dive bar." So what is a dive bar? According to one definition, it typically is a small, unglamorous, eclectic, old-style bar with inexpensive drinks and may feature dim lighting, shabby or dated decor, neon beer signs, packaged beer sales, cash only service and a local clientele. By that definition, I suppose Keenan O'Reilly's fits the description. Located at 3916 North Ashland Avenue, south of Irving Park Road, at Byron, in the Lakeview neighborhood, this pub opened in 2007 in a space formerly occupied by a Polish bar and is noted for its bright white and green Special Export sign above the door. It features a good-sized room with hardwood floors, a white drop ceiling and a worn wooden bar that arcs well out into the room. It also is noted for cheap beers, relaxed atmosphere and lack of crowds. Come for drinks and friendly conversation, not food. There is no kitchen. Open from 5:30 to 1 a.m. Monday through Thursday, 4 to 1 a.m. Friday and Saturday and 1 to 1 a.m. on Sunday, O'Reilly's has a large beer list and manages to keep patrons entertained with pool, darts, ping-pong, electronic shuffleboard and other board games. There's also a couple of flatscreen TVs and a jukebox. There are beers on draft. Also craft brews, imports, ciders and domestics. And Trivia Night is a popular attraction every Monday. What's a dive bar? Now you know.“

This bar was awesome— bartender was a guy called Scott who said he’d newly started but actually knew his stuff and converted my “just the one” plan into “I’ve got to be done at four lagers”. Ask him for the Irish jokes— he beat me at them, had me impressed— and that’s saying something, my Irish joke repertoire is, frankly, formidable.
If your an Arsenal or EPL fan or not, do yourself a favor and check this place out.“

only negative for me was the burger. Patties were very thin and overcooked. Not much of condiments on the bun. Top bun had no condiments at all just the bun. Pretty bland overall. But still a good place to go have some beers and play pool, just don't expect much for food, at least based on my one time experience.“

“One of the best dive bars I’ve ever been to! Stopped in on a Saturday night for the first time with some friends and we were so welcomed! The bartender, Alex made us feel so loved and taken care of. Our drinks were cold and never empty. She works on the weekends, we ended up spending the whole night here.

“It's the perfect dive bar with great food (big portions), best French fries and chicken wings around!, friendly customers, and staff. Family owned place who really cater to their customers and know most of the customers by name. There's a pool table, 6 TVs, and a jukebox which is perfect for hanging out and having a few shots and/or beers on the cheap. Party packages are inexpensive too and they have a nice big dining room for birthdays and group gatherings. (On Wednesday's they have drink specials.) *Cheers*“
“Been meaning to come to this bar since moving to the neighborhood a few months ago and finally did tonight. The bartender Pam rules! Exactly what you want from a local corner bar. Real, a little rough around the edges, but so welcoming. A lot of first timers tonight, and she remembers everyone’s name. She made my experience and I’ll be a regular now for sure.“

The owners and bar tenders are amazing, I have been coming here for years now after moving from a little town in the UP of Michigan. Great place and good people!
They have peanuts, pretzels and pizza.
They have food on Sundays during football season for bears games and during baseball you will never miss a cubs game here.
They will host parties.
