“Ok so I was in the mood to try something outside the normal “Friday” box.
I had NO CLUE what I was in stores for!!!
Let me start off by saying the 2hr trip we took to get here was well worth the journey (minus the rain, accidents and retarded drivers lol)
When we walked in we were immediately greeted and sat at a CLEAN table. Marjorie our server was top notch. She was extremely attentive to us and her section was steady the entire time. Our appetisers were HOT and didn’t not take 2 years to come out the kitchen 😂
Now it’s time for the main course…
I had the meatloaf sandwich.
This meatloaf by far was better than I expected. Not only was the meat moist -Pause, it was well seasoned. The sourdough it came on was toasted correctly. The onion rings were battered and fried to my big back liking 🤤

“I had lunch at Halftime yesterday and the food was wonderful. The special of the day was a Smashburger, homemade chips and a salad. I also shared some southwest chicken rolls as an appetizer. The southwest chicken rolls are always great, but I really loved the Smashburger and homemade chips. The chips had a really tasty seasoning on them. Apparently, this meal was a special only and not on the everyday menu, but it should be. Everything was delicious and our server was great.“

“Had resv for 4:00 on a Sat, got there at 3:25 asked to sit at table to get drinks, told we could, then someone else said no since r resv wasn’t until 4:00. Said we could sit at bar but all tables in bar were taken! Freezing cold inside, put 7 of us at a table that would hold 10-12 people had to scoot down to other end to try and get warm. Food finally arrived way later than those around us! No one in the rest. hardly but we couldn’t sit at a table till 4:00. Not very friendly about it! Food not impressed with! “We have been eating at JJ's for some time.
My family dines there. The waitresses are very good at remembering customers. I say this because shortly after my brother in law passed, we went into JJ's to have their all you can eat catfish on a Friday. While we were there the waitress noticed that my brother in law was missing in our group. Once she found out he had passed, she sent her condolences and continued to wait on us in a professional manner. I thought it was kind of her to notice his absence and then offer her cond9lences and continue to wait on us in a respectful way.
Thank you to that waitress. And, thank you to the restaurant for having employees who offer care and compassion still showing respect for the customer's feelings.“

“Today me and my wife and daughter decide to try a new restaurant. loaded nachos and it was out of this world great. we will most definitely be going back and trying other items on the menu. if you have never tried loaded nachos I suggest you get up go on across to St Charles and get you some loaded nachos you will not be disappointed.“

“This is the most favorite roast beef sandwich of our whole family. We are there so often the friendly staff knows our names. When our younger son and his family fly in from California, their first stop after leaving the airport is Lions Choice. Parking: On a busy Sunday, it can be difficult to find a parking space.

“We love Marquette Lodge. We go there a few times a year and adore the features such as the great room, cozy fireplace, and beautiful views. Unfortunately we’ve noticed some real negatives over the last few stays. The most recent was the worst. We came to dinner in the dining room and were seated by the hostess. After asking about drinks, we told by the hostess that there was no drink menu. Since we’d seen the menus before, we left our table and went up to the counter to retrieved some ourselves. Service was slow despite the fact there were only 6 other tables of guests. We immediately noticed that both the hostess and waitress seemed annoyed and inconvenienced, as they were very short and rude. We overheard the people at the next table saying the same thing. We ordered 2 meals including one burger, asking for no cheese. When it came out with cheese, we politely asked if we could have it replaced with a hamburger vs. a cheeseburger and were told by our waitress Malissa, “Can’t you just scrape it off?”. We politely said yes. We later asked for some mustard (asked both the waitress and hostess) and after 10 minutes of watching them either seated at a table or lingering behind the back bar, we once again went up to the front to find the condiments for ourselves. The next day, I was part of a stained glass class at the lodge which was absolutely lovely & enjoyable. For lunch were given vouchers and all dined together at a large, pre-reserved table in the dining room (there were about 10-12 of us). The food and service this time were both pretty good, thanks to a different set of staff. However, my classmates began sharing their disappointments of the dining experiences from they days before, saying that as soon as they walked into the restaurant the previous night, they felt unwelcome. They said they felt guilty for even being there, and at several points had to get up and retrieve their own menus, silverware, and condiments from behind the counter. It was as if all of us had the same experience with the same staff that weekend. Two of the women I met showed photos of the dirty bed linens they discovered when turning down their beds late after arrival on their first nights. One found a dirty black sock with a soiled fitted sheet in her cabin. Another said her lodge room sheets were full of hair when she arrived. All were told by the front desk that the lodge was full and they would have to stay in their respective rooms and nothing else could be done. My boyfriend and I noticed upon check-in to our rooms the first night that the thermostat was broken (it was 24 degrees outside and 58 degrees in the room). The TV remote wasn’t working right (the keys were all sticking) and we needed a pillowcase for one of the pillows. While we were first told that there may not be any fixing for the remote or additional linens to provide due to the lodge being full, they did eventually send a young man up to fix the thermostat, “jimmy” the remote, and give us a pillowcase. We were looking forward to spending time in the hot tub and suana especially on this trip, as during last year’s winter staycation the sauna wasn’t working. There was a leak/detachment in the hot tub liner at that time too. We were really disappointed to discover that, a year plus later, the sauna was still inoperable and the hot tub once again had a faulty liner. We love Marquette Park and Lodge. We ignore most of the grumblings about the place falling outdated, the bad service, and disrepair. In the past, we never come expecting the Ritz but this time we were so incredibly disappointed all-around. The property is such a treasure; it saddened us all to experience the apathetic staff and to see no real signs of motivation to maintain let alone improve the current facility. I know it’s a state park but we all hope someday someone somewhere can come in and reinvigorate the place. It really wouldn’t take much, as it’s beauty speaks for itself. None of us are expecting a 5 star resort, but some basic manners & sanitary, functioni“

“Just had a business lunch with around 15 people. The service was great, and the food was good. Food came out quickly and they got all the orders right. Highly recommend Goodwood for your next business meeting or even company Holiday party.“

“I've always loved the fish here. The fact that it's local caught is what I like. Last time we were there I noticed on their sign it said farm raised catfish etc. I thought that was strange. But I also noted a little sign that was hanging below the menu board, "blue cat fritters". That's what I ordered thinking they have to be local wild caught. I went next door to the market and took some pics. Products of Vietnam, China, and Argentina. Talked to owner Debbie as she was cutting up onions. I told her I ordered the blue cat assuming it was local wild caught which she confirmed. Told her my lil Princess wouldn't eat dirty fish caught out of the river she wanted the farm raised until she saw where it came from. Then we got our fish. I took one piece of mine and one of hers and split them gave her half of each and I tried a piece of both as well. Her not knowing which was which and she immediately declared the blue cat was the better of the two hands down no comparison. I realize they have to cater to their customers wants. But dang it. I come here for local fresh river fish not Vietnam, China, or other countries crap. This is America and a country boy will survive, even if I have to start catching my own fish again.“

Parking: There are lots of spots in front, including two specifically for curbside pick-ups.

Kid-friendliness: The menu includes kids' meals and yummy custard treats. I've seen kids here lots of times.

Wheelchair accessibility: There are no stairs to worry about, and there are spots designated for handicap only right by the door. There is also a handicap stall in the restroom.“
