“Unbelievably fantastic. Every bit of this meal was so tasty. The meat was very tender, usually not a fan of plain white rice but even the plain rice by itself was somehow flavorful. Great portion sizes too, this was like 2.5 meals for me and I spent $10 on the lunch special. Wow“

“best sushi in the chicagoland area for me! this little stall inside Hmart Niles’ food court is such a hidden gem. my husband and i actually come here once a week now, it’s officially become our comfort-food spot. i’m not a raw-sushi person at all, but they have amazing cooked options. i'm obsessed with the salmon yaki roll. seriously, it’s that good, always fresh and consistent.

we chatted with the owner once, and he told us he even makes the wasabi from scratch. the wasabi alone deserves an award, so flavorful, not the harsh store-bought kind. the owner is almost always there, making the sushi himself and running things with such a friendly vibe. he truly deserves recognition. this is literally the only sushi my stomach can tolerate, so that says a lot.

and it’s not just the sushi. their entrées are unforgettable too. my husband swears by the chicken katsu: crispy on the outside, juicy inside, and the portion/price is super fair.

“We came for restaurant week and while the food was very good, the restaurant week menu was not really a good deal I don’t think. If you’d like to check out this restaurant, you should do so, but don’t come in for restaurant week thinking you’ll get a good deal. We had to order some additional food on top of the menu as we were still hungry. The food is very high quality but portion sizes could be a bit larger at the price point they’re charging. As seen in the photo, we received a 6 piece nigiri but this is not enough food to really get full. Would recommend checking out, not sure if I’ll be back though.“

“We were in the area and happened to stop by here completely by chance. The place is okay. Unlike other spots where you already have “pre-assembled” ingredients for a poke bowl and just choose which one you want (so-called signature bowls), here you have to build it yourself. The poke was fine. The ingredients are fresh, and since I picked what I like, of course I enjoyed it. The place feels cozy and interesting, with lots of plants inside. My only complaint is that the low white tables are very close together, so you literally can’t move. They need to be spaced out a bit.“

The ambience was gorgeous, beautifully lit with lush neons around the bar and periphery with delicious pockets of intimate lowlight at tables. Best of all was the team that bring it all to life. Eric and Alex took incredible care of us. They were so attentive, considerate, and warm, it truly made for a welcoming and fun-filled night. “I am not local, this is a regular go-to place for a friend, so when I visit with her, she wants to bring me. I had a Chinese Eggplant with chicken dish, flavorful and spicy. Also had some nigiri sushi, all very good. The Black Tobiko was plentiful and fresh. The Tamago and Inari, which are types of sushi that are deceptively simple seeming but really show a chef's knowledge and artistry, were excellent. I'm sure I will go again.“

The interior has a relaxing, Sunday-afternoon kind of vibe.

The ramen broth is prepared 18+ hours in advance to ensure flavor profile is maximized. There are a lot of great options for everyone of all dietary restrictions.

The banana coconut smoothie was one of the best I've had at a restaurant.

The Makunouchi (Unagi) is easily among the most outstanding I've ever eaten, maybe even the best. Such a delightful presentation and true to the traditional bento & Ekiben forms, where you discover hidden items as you eat & each side dish feels fresher & more delicious than the last. Feels like a very generously-portioned (in case you're doubting the price tag) home cooked meal prepared and packed by someone with a rare amount of intention & care for not just how the food will taste, but how well it will travel. You can feel the that the chef wants your meal to be a joyful experience filled with little surprises. Truly a new favorite meal of mine in the city that I plan to order again and again.“
