Miriam, our server was so knowledgeable about the menu and so accommodating — multiple things were sent to us on the house and after we tried the Arak “milk of lions” and didn’t like it due to its strong liquors taste she was quick to taking it off of our bill and was very receptive of the feedback. You have to try the labneh spreads and beetroot mutabbal too! We had the pleasure of meeting the owner, who is Suda‘s daughter and came to find out that every recipe on the menu is her mom‘s very own. You can taste the love in every bite. My husband is very particular when it comes to Asian food since he is Asian himself and has his spots in the city we visit. We ordered a few things to share and try. The portions are very generous and we ordered too much as usual but we wanted to try several things. We had the shrimp soup in coconut milk and veggies ( I can't remember the name). Very good. I would come back for that. Also we had the Papaya salad. To me, this was the only thing I probably wouldn't order again. It wasn't bad, but I prefer my husbands which is hotter and a few more things in it. Then we ordered a chicken skewer with a peanut curry sauce. This was great. Very tender and the sauce omg . I asked the server if he could bring a tiny little bowl with some pho broth to taste it. My husband is a pain in the butt about his pho in the suburbs. He approved of it. That's a complement to them then haha. I ordered the drunken noodles with shrimp Thai spice level. And omg yesss! So good. I can't wait to take my older son here, he will love it. My husband got the glass noodles with crispy duck. It was so darn good and the duck was perfect. Soft, crispy but not oily. We also had Thai tea. Very good. We will definitely be back to try more of the menu.“

Came to enjoy diner here with a close friend, although I will say the food was good overall the prices were out of line for what food was being served at this restaurant. They need to be a bit more conscientious about what they are charging for some of the dishes there, although I love pasta I did not enjoy spending as much on the food there as I did when knowing I could’ve easily had a better meal from a restaurant I would’ve preferred for steak, but this is the restaurant my friend wanted to go to in particular for the breadsticks and soup, fortunately that is what made the visit worth going. The unlimited soup and breadsticks helped balance out the value of the meal.“

“I was impressed with their healthy menu items. Had the Kale salad and cup of chili to go. Their salad to go container was a small square clear plastic that at first glance looked too small with all of it's ingredients squished including the dressing and condiment cups inside. I'm not a big fan of placing condiments cups or packets into or top of my fresh clean food ingredients. I would definitely ask for condiments be bagged outside of salads for future. As for quality and taste. Their menu doesn't mention that all of their produce is organic so had to ask and I was told they use organic greens. Which is a big plus bc I try to avoid any salad greens, fruits and veggies that are high in pesticides. As far as taste, once I arrived home and opened the salad, I was pleasantly surprised that while packed it didn't seem like much, unpacked and once arranged, it was a good portion for the price. The kale and veggies in my salad were fresh and crisp. Their in house dressing was also very good with quality clean ingredients! The cup of chili was small but hearty and very flavorful. It's exactly how I would prepare my own and I was very impressed with how well seasoned it was and had just the right amount of a spicy kick as Chili should be:) I will be returning to try some of their other items. I was curious about their Snickerdoodle cookie but never tried them before so $8 for 2 cookies was a bit much for me. I asked if they ever allow their customers to sample any of their cookies or menu items in general and I was told no. I would have definitely bought one cookie if it were an option. Would be nice if you offered your customers samples of small bites from time to time. It would definitely be an incentive to come back and try more of your menu items and specials in the future. I live in the area and had driven past this place almost daily and I'm glad I made the effort to find parking. Just like most of the city, it's becoming more and more difficult to find parking to even stop and visit spots like this. This is another reason you might consider appealing to new and returning customers that aren't walking distance to your new spot by offering lunch specials w/cookie or drink maybe and don't forget the complimentary bites:)

“We live across the street and have dined in about once a month for 13 years. This is a literal mom and pop spot that has 3-4 people working tops at any time. The “waiter” is the husband owner and his wife owner does the cooking. He gets a bit overwhelmed at times, but is super generous. His wife is so nice and they both love babies/kids. Our children are 9 and 10 now, but when they were young they would carry them around the restaurant. They still give them a special snack at the end of the meal. We love all the soups, japchae, and bibimbap (we’re pescatarians). The complimentary pancake is delicious as are all the side dishes. Side dishes are much better than when I get them at Joong Boo and that’s not meant to be a jab at Joong Boo either. The prices are insanely cheap. This is home cooking by real people.“

“Solid 4 place. Its weird when restaurant's main dish is their name of business and other dish is better...
Like I tried their selleongtang, and this time, their galbitang and bossam.
And their bossam is the best dish for me.
I think the price plays into this factor and also, when you have legendary restaurant in same city that is known for sellongtang, aka Hanbat, its hard not to compare.
Hanbat is much cheaper and better taste.

Galbitang, I also prefer the taste of Joongboo, its more savory and cheaper. Piece of this wang galbi has more aesthetic appealing, but little meat, harder to eat, contains more fat.

Bossam on the other hand, was very nice and good price also.“

“Thank goodness this place exists. This is your classic Chinese-American take out joint and the food is simply delicious. We ordered two dinner specials and a crab rangoon app - generous portions, hot, fresh, and tasty. Specifically, there is an element of “wok hay” (a Cantonese phrase denoting smoky aroma and flavor) present in the cooking that makes it 5 stars for me.

Don’t expect any level of “service”; that’s not the point here. This is a mom and pop shop operated by weary food industry veterans. Just pick up your plate, quit yapping, and enjoy what you ordered because you won’t regret it.

Friend chiming in: Regarding the service, the woman is lovely. You get everything you need and neither more or less, perfect in my opinion.

“My Mom and I were looking for a new (new to us) Chinese-American restaurant. Palace Cantonese surpassed all expectations. Every plate we had was delicious and food was hot. The service by Calvin was outstanding.

We entered the restaurant and were the only ones during this late lunch time. We sat in the comfortable and cozy booth (firm for what my back needs). Right away, Calvin brought delicious hot tea and water. The Fried Won Ton, which is hard to find without meat, was perfectly fried, not soggy. The cup of egg drop soup was a generous portion, more like a medium bowl. The veggie egg rolls were large and tasty. The Chicken Szechuan, was like a kung pao chicken and very flavorful. I loved the touch from Calvin bringing extra peanuts without us asking. He also asked if we needed more tea even though our steel carafe was half full. At similar restaurants, I’ve not seen that service.
The final touch was receiving 2 almond cookies (plus fortune cookies), which my Mom and I love.
It’s my new favorite restaurant which I will be patronizing every time I’m in Chicago.
