“Stopped in for the first time. Friendly gal up front, decent prices, chips a bit oily but burritos and torta were yummy. Pretty fast turnaround as well. Red sauce was nice & spicy. Good place for some quick Mexican food. I'll be back.“

“The flavors were great in general. However, the salsa was essentially tomato sauce and a big disappointment. The guacamole needed some garlic or green onion or salt. The only other problem was the salad had very little (if any) dressing. The tacos and the special quesadillas were great. Service was good. Overall, good enough that we will be back.“

“Ever since our former far north side Mexican go-to restaurant had a fire and reopened without the same quality of food we used to love, my partner and I have been looking for a new delivery and eat-in joint. We love how awesome the universe of Mexican food is here in Chicago but a lot of the eateries on the far north side are just kind of meh. Nobody deserves to eat meh Mexican food in Chicago, ever. It took us a year and a half to finally find Taqueria El Charro and we’re completely blown away. I’ve lived in Chicago for 21 years and he’s lived in Chicago almost as long. I used to teach English in Pilsen. Once I had a chance to move back home to New York City and I sat in a Chicago Mexican restaurant at 18th and Ashland and cried because I didn’t want to leave Chicago Mexican food behind. So, this place has some of the best Mexican food I have ever eaten here in my adopted hometown. I don’t say that lightly. You don’t kid around with Mexican food in Chicago. I cannot emphasize how quietly awesome this place is.“

“Really nice hole in the wall place. Good bang for your buck. It's really hard to beat Chorizo pound for pound in flavor. They have a good variety of meats for tacos, burritos, and tortas. It doesn't look like they have any non meat options for meat substitutes. Everything is cooked fresh and served to your table if you can find an open one. Fortunately for us it wasn't really packed on a Sunday afternoon. Personally, the Chorizo tortas is the most worth it. The table sauces are pretty good, the red on tastes like chili and paprika and the green one is just tomatillo.

“If you’re in the Rogers Park area and you want some good authentic tacos stop by Taqueria Hernandez. I came here off of a recommendation as to who has the most flavorful Carne Asada tacos and they didn’t disappoint. With the taco dinner get two tacos as opposed to the three other places, but it’s really good and the staff was friendly.

“Last week I was on my way to take my son for a haircut and decided to stop and eat here. It was my first time. Service was great and food delicious. I was not having a good day but tried my best to not show it. As I'm eating I saw a man come in. Eat by himself and then left. My surprise when I went to go pay. This man had paid for my food. Who ever it was Thank you so much if this is ever read. That was a beautiful gesture and completely made my day. I got my son his haircut and took him for some ice cream afterwards. “Three words - $2 Taco Tuesday. Came by on a Tuesday and got a Al Pastor and Pollo (Chicken Tinga) taco. Man these tacos were fat. Loaded to the brim with meat and veggies, and encased in a double lined corn tortilla to ensure it stays. Not much else to say except they were bomb. Both salsas were solid, although i wish they had a bit more heat to them. The inside is like your typical mom and pop Mexican cafe, perfect for a sit down with friends to enjoy some good food. It was busy and the food came out quick too. Staff was friendly and helpful. Don’t walk, run to come try these for a great deal.“

It didn't make me sweat without working out (shout out to the man at the counter), but my god this was one of the best things I have eaten in a long time.
