At no point did we put hands on any of these people, but they thought attacking us was OK. We spent the night in the ER and both have head and neck injuries. “On August 16, 2024 my dear friend Eberta Wright celebrated her 103 birthday. We celebrated it at The Lazy Dog Restaurant in the Highlands were we used to go for lunch every Sunday after church. Our waiter was always Carlos. One Sunday he told me to let him know when she was to celebrate her next birthday because he wanted to do something special for her. I called him and told him it was here so he talked to his manager and WOW!!!!! Kyla, Alexa, Andrea and Carlos put together a spectacular birthday celebration. Mrs. Wright and I both were so surprised and delighted with what they did. The decorations, the gorgeous flowers the cupcakes that Kyla made and decorated to spell out her birth year. Everything was just wonderful. Carlos came in on his day off and got to have lunch with us. He is a very special young man. In fact everyone there is very special. The Lazy Dog will always be my number one restaurant not just because of the good food but because they are a group of very special people.“

We were greeted by the knights and staff as we entered, setting the stage for an epic evening. What made it even better was that the birthday guest of honor was recognized during the show, and they even received a birthday shout-out from the queen and the knights! “Greetings my Foodzies, tonight we decided to try a restaurant that we have passed by numerous times. The great escape on Irving at 9540 w Irving Park rd. in Schiller Park.
This is a unique restaurant that has been around for years. The property has a rich history (see the picture I have posted with the story).
The restaurant’s bar area is very rustic with a bar that was hand carved in 1889, very impressive. TVs have been added to draw in a people who want to eat and have a drink while watching TV. Also a gaming section in the bar area.
Music is old school 50-60s, our server Mareen was pleasant, friendly and knowledgeable.
We started with Grilled Calamari it was grilled nicely but could have used a few more seconds to get a little more char flavor. It was also missing the signature balsamic. Glenda chose the Rigatoni in Vodka sauce with chicken; the chicken was scarce and the sauce was not the traditional sauce it had an odd flavor, not terrible but not what we expected. With a cup of lentil soup, tasty but needed a little extra salt. I chose the baby back ribs and broasted chicken (these dishes they are known for) the chicken was very good, crispy skin and very juicy. The ribs were tender but a little dry. The BBQ sauce was the recipe is the recipe of the owner’s grandfather. It was a Kansas City type sweet sauce with a nice smoky flavor (as a first time patron we were given a bottle to take home). I had the baked French onion soup topped with mozzarella, I’m used to Gruyere, Swiss, or Gouda but ut was very good.

“Our server, Dee(?), was amazing! Great recommendations and she anticipated all of our needs. The food was top notch, as well. Started with the flaming cheese fondue served with fresh focaccia bread. Yum! I had the Surf and Turf and my husband had the Grouper. Both were perfectly prepared and the sides were delicious. Cocktails were fantastic and their Bourbon choices were great for an after dinner pour. We finished with their blueberry cheesecake and devoured every crumb!
