“We found this place on our way to Raleigh, NC from Chicago. Stopped here after reading reviews online. TRUST THE REVIEWS that say this place is good...IT IS GOOD! We just moved to the Chicago area from South Texas, so we know good Mexican food and this place does not disappoint! If you are anywhere near Gary Indiana, you have to stop in to Chela's. It's not fancy at all, but is very clean and the prices are good. We had the Birria Tacos, chips and salsa and several different meat tacos. Then, on our way back from North Carolina, we stopped in again! My fiance thinks this is the best Mexican food outside of Texas. THAT'S saying something! We can't wait to go back!“

“The rice was amazing! One of the reasons I wanted to come here ASAP! Definitely worth the wait. Pastellilos had cheese in them (never had cheese in them before) and were perfectly crispy. Overall, a great experience. I will definitely be a return customer whenever I'm craving Puerto Rican rice. I already recommended this place to a fellow coworker! The portions were generous and very satisfying. Everything tasted fresh and made with care. The flavors reminded me of authentic home-cooked Puerto Rican food. The staff was friendly and made the ordering process easy. The restaurant was clean and had a welcoming atmosphere. I didn't have to wait too long for my food, which was a nice bonus. I can't wait to come back and try some of the other menu items. This place definitely exceeded my expectations, and I'm glad I gave it a try.“

“If you haven't tried Tere's Mexican food, you need to! There is a limited but excellent menu. They have one menu item that I have seen nowhere else but here: deep fried quesadillas. It's not what you imagine.. it's better than that! For a unique experience of authentic Mexican flavor, try one ASAP! Also, they serve tamales on every day they operate.“

“I knew this would be a great place to take some friends who had never been to Texas before and wanted to experience non-chain Tex-Mex. The neighborhood, building, decor, staff and quality of food was perfect. However, the mirachi band is too much. Way too loud. It doesn't need to be so loud. It was if the horns had to prove they could play loudly. I get it, when a mirachi band is playing you don't have conversation, but wow, it doesn't have to be so overwhelming. We will go back. The woman at the front taking the orders needs a different job that does not require her to deal with the public because her communication skills absolutely SUCKS.
