“I really wish I had asked permission to use the name of the person who helps me every time because they are genuinely one of the sweetest people I’ve met. The atmosphere and coffee are exceptional, especially at this location. I’ve been to the location closer to Nulu a few times, and unfortunately it just isn’t the same experience.

No matter how busy or slow it is, the barista who usually helps me is always positive and welcoming. Today really took the cake. With the Norton Commons yard sale going on, there were probably eight people in front of me in line. Despite having only two people working, the line moved quickly, and from the time I got in line to the time I had my coffee in hand was less than 15 minutes. I still got the friendly conversation I’ve come to expect. They complimented my friend and me, and we had a short conversation about names and working in coffee shops.

It’s rare to find a place that consistently makes people feel welcome, but this location does exactly that. I couldn’t recommend it enough. It’s everything you look for in a coffee shop—great coffee, a wonderful atmosphere, kind people, and even spotless restrooms. Haha!“

“It's rare that we have a date night on a weekday with two young children, but tonight was the exception. When I realized our anniversary was falling on a Wednesday, Perso was the first place that came to mind. Perso's Prix Fixe Menú is available every Sunday through Wednesday and offers a three course meal for $29. It's no secret that I'm a fine dining enthusiast; but who doesn't love a bargain? If you're looking for a nice night out without breaking the bank, this is your spot. Perso sits at the corner of Oak and Shelby in the same location as the former Square Cut Pizza. The giant windows in the front provide an abundance of natural light. The interior has a modern industrial vibe with painted exposed brick, plants, and Edison bulbs hanging on pendants. One wall with wooden slats gives a Scandinavian feel to the main dining area. It's a small-ish intimate space with a beautiful patio. For my first course, I chose Crostino Di Tonno- olive oil poached tuna, stracciatella, pickled celery, and Calabrian chili. I followed my first course with olive oil poached swordfish, corn chowder, and golden zucchini scapece. For dessert, I had the chef's choice: apple strudel with whipped cream cheese. My husband chose heirloom tomato with roasted eggplant, bagna couda, and fine herbs. For his main course, he had pork tenderloin with edamame, beef dashi, and fine herbs. We both opted for the chef's choice for dessert. I tasted each of his courses and they were every bit as delicious as my own. The edamame provided the perfect texture and his tenderloin dashi tasted gravy-esque without being overly heavy. Mostly notable, besides the insane deal for such decadence, was the fresh flavor combinations throughout. Our table had fresh rosemary as a centerpiece. The corn chowder was right up my alley. I could've licked my bowl if I wasn't trying to pretend to have a bit of class. The swordfish was tender, juicy, and not overly fishy. The tuna flatbread was the perfect balance of sweet and spicy. The mint on top of my whipped cream cheese truly set it apart. My lavender Manhattan was earthy and smoky, not just in flavor. It was literally smoking. My husband had an old-fashioned. Neither of us were disappointed. Our server, Amanda, was phenomenal. She offered recommendations. She visited our table to ensure we were satisfied the perfect number of times. Her warm demeanor was professional while also being personable. She was everything we hope for in a server. Perso's Sunday through Wednesday Prix Fixe Menú is hands-down one of the best opportunities for an affordable night out. That being said, once you get a taste of what they have to offer, you'll be sold on splurging any day of the week.“

I also witnessed extreme rudeness to a door dash driver who had clearly been waiting a while and when they asked about the order having been marked 10 minutes ago as ready they were told "We don't care about YOUR numbers, we have to appear to be on time." He looked like management. I turned and left, I will not do business with someone being rude to staff or anyone providing a service to them any more than rudeness to customers.“

“i follow a blogger on youtube that travels the world. he is visiting Ethiopia and through watching it learned that Ethiopia is the birthplace of coffee. So i googled Ethiopian coffee shops in Louisville and found Abol cafe. visited today and had some pour over coffee, it was the best coffe i've ever had, and i have tried coffee everywhere!!!! believe me when I say this place has the best Coffee around. This place more than exceeded my expectations of Ethiooian Coffee!!!! I will be visiting this place alot more.“

Really interesting story on their more recent challenges and how they have thrived/survived. They have some great whiskeys to try and some of their unique finished stuff is incredible. If I had one complaint, it would be the plastic tasting cups.“

There is a bar style seating around the large bar where you can have your meal or just drinks. They have a very nice outdoor seating area. Plenty of free parking in the parking lot.“

“My friends and I ate at malones tonight. It was an amazing experience. We had 2 wonderful servers, Robbie and Louis , they were very attentive and went above and beyond to make sure we were taken care of. We can’t wait to go back!“

Downstairs is exactly what a great Louisville dive bar should be—laid back, unpretentious, and stocked with a really solid beer selection. The real star, though, is Tuesday night fried chicken, which might honestly be the best in Louisville. It’s crispy, flavorful, and absolutely worth planning your week around. And whatever you do, don’t skip the potato cakes—they’re the perfect side and honestly complete the whole meal.

Upstairs is a total contrast in the best way. The renovated private hangout space is quieter, well-appointed, and perfect if you want a more relaxed vibe. Between the dart boards, TVs, and comfortable setup, it’s an awesome place to watch whatever game you want, hang with friends, or spend a long night throwing darts without the chaos of the downstairs bar.

It’s rare to find a place that nails both the classic dive bar feel and a polished private hangout space, but Mellwood does it perfectly. Tuesday chicken alone is worth the trip. “
