“Bob Boudreau and I were in NOLA for 9 nights. Three of the nights we had reservations at other places with family. Our 1st night we looked up and found Jewel of the South. We loved it so much. we asked our nephew, his medical school advisor and his wife to join us. All three lived in NOLA and had never been here. All 5 of us would definitely go back in a heart beat. “I just love this place. Been many times on multiple trips. Bartenders are always so engaging and very much about keeping you company and telling you about their drinks and oysters. On this trip, a bartender with pig tails and a cap made my time so special by telling me the back story on the gin and the oysters. Fun, smiley, knowledgeable, and just welcoming. This will always be a stop for me on my New Orleans trips. And happy hour on Mon-Thu 3-6pm has great prices and fun stuff.“

“This is the place to be for live music from local musicians. They do not charge a cover which is fantastic. But it's great to tip the band and show your support that way. The cocktails they make here are very unique. And I had a great conversation with the bartender about how they keep pushing the envelope of different blends and tastes for their customers. Their menu of their mixed drinks is constantly evolving with new offerings. Went to see Marty Peters in the party meters and they did not disappoint. They are a premier jazz band.“

A HUGE shout out to the bar staff for concocting and offering complex and unique non-alcoholic cocktails. This was such a welcome departure from the lazy treacle that most restaurants pour. “Went for the first time today, definitely won't be the last. Yes, it's a hole-in-the-wall dive bar. Yes, they smoke in here and there are cigarettes in the vending machine. It might be cash only too (my friend treated me to lunch today). If any of that bothers you- GO SOME PLACE ELSE because the boiled everything on Thursdays is WORTH IT. Turkey necks, neck bones, pig feet, smoked sausage, corn & potatoes was what they had today- all served in a styrofoam go-box in case you can't finish. Slap-ya-momma good food here. Can't really find a menu posted anywhere- it's a word-of-mouth place. I went for lunch but it gets crowded at night.

“We came across this spot to grab a quick drink before bourbon st. We ended up coming back for 3 straight days and spent majority of our time at this bar. This is a spot that won’t ever make the top bars of New Orleans list but if you want to come and get a real, authentic New Orleans experience with people from here then this is the spot to go to. Julie, the bartender was so amazing. One of the sweetest, kindest people I’ve ever come across in my life. Her sister Stella hangs out there too and is just as incredible. The crowd of regulars was so incredibly friendly. Some of the kindest people you’ll ever find. Julie even cooked us up 2 home cooked meals served fresh right at the bar.
