“We are visiting from England and have been to Heart and Soul three times in the past week. Why? Yes, the coffee is excellent and the food is very good, but it's the warmth and hospitality of the owner, Bud, that has impressed us most. We have lived and travelled in many places around the world but rarely have we experienced an owner with such a wonderful attitude and such a welcome. It feels like visiting a friend when we come to Heart and Soul....a place that embodies the name of the cafe and an owner who clearly knows what hospitality means.“

“The bagels here are excellent, and everything there is at a great price point for breakfast food. I enjoy them just as much as Abraham's in Newburyport. I only wish they would open a little sooner. I often get there at 7AM to find it not open yet. Hopefully if they get more business they will want to open earlier.“

“How anyone could give this place a bad review makes no sense to me. You've probably already read from the other reviews that the staff is incredible, but truly -- they are. They are so kind and welcoming to every single person that comes in. Aside from that, the coffee is AMAZING! They have so many different flavors to choose from and you can customize any drink however you like (even if it's not on the menu). Also, the breakfast sandwiches... wow. Get 'The Stallion', just trust me. Prices are completely reasonable. Honestly, no other coffee place I've been to even compares. I'll be a longtime customer!“

“Five stars obsession for the oatmeal whoopie pie! Wow! Best I’ve ever had. Crispy yet doughy and chewy oatmeal cookie, with this soft whipped vanilla cream. Perfect beyond. Also had the roast beef special sandwich with a beet sauce, which didn’t have that bloody, fatty roast beef taste so would try a different sandwich. But that whoopie pie! Would come back for that and more baked goods. Loved the idyllic outdoor seating on the sidewalk and overall welcoming warmth of the place.

“I mean…Salem am I right? Many people don’t like lines or standing. So if you can handle about 20-30 minutes of standing then perhaps this isn’t your place. Never heard of this location and was just walking around about noticed this place. Food is exceptional and the ghost coffees are cute. Though if you’re on a budget I would skip this place, but what they offer as well as price would be what you expect to pay in this town.“

“We recently hired Googans to cater for a celebration of life. We kept it simple with a cheese and veggie platter, sandwiches and sweets- finger food. Everything was absolutely delicious! People were raving about how good the sandwiches and desserts were. I absolutely recommend for catering and also to stop in their shop for breakfast and/or lunch. We were very happy with our whole experience with Googan’s.“

“Biked through town from Boston with a crew of 6 on a Saturday morning. This was the only place open before 11 am and I’m so glad it was. Place was packed but service was quick. Got a banana recovery smoothy with an espresso shot added and it was sooo good. They also have gluten free bread and took my allergy very seriously! Will be visiting again!

“What can I say other than magical?! We were fortunate enough to host my son’s 11th birthday party in the back room (The kids loved the secret hidden entrance through the bookcase). Tons of great games for all ages and the food was fantastic! Literally everything we had was gourmet quality and up to my foodie 11 year-old’s standards. “I joined their wine club to make my wine nights that much easier. Parking was super easy and my pick-up was quick. They have plenty of add-ins to level-up my fancy dinners including the fresh fancy pasta, flavored salts, and cured meats.“

“Gluten Free Chocolate Chip cookies! That's the one thing my wife wants me to let you know. We were fortunate to stop here while traveling through. We got a few coffees, crescents (not GF) and cookies. After we drove away my wife started raving about how amazing the GF Chocolate Chip cookies were. She told me several times they were the best she ever had and wished that we had gotten more. I had a bite (even though I love gluten in my cookies) and I have to admit they were great. Thanks for a great treat! My wife's only regret is that we were traveling (11 hours away) and we won't be in the area again to get some more. If you stop by, be sure to eat a GF cookie for her!“

Don't get me wrong service is fast, orders come out exactly how you ordered them. However, the counter staff taking your order should, at the very least, be pleasant.“

Whenever I come in early, the guy working is absolutely awesome. He is polite, fast, and handles the morning rush with a great attitude that you don't see very often these days. It makes a huge difference when you are greeted by someone who genuinely cares about doing a good job. The cafe is always clean, the food is fresh, and his outstanding customer service makes it my favorite spot for breakfast. Highly recommend stopping by in the morning“

Unfortunately, the food wasn't great considering the price point, and the atmosphere was just marginal. Overall, an okay experience and the hardworking crew kept things afloat, but the value for the food wasn't quite there.“
