The crusty buns are always consistency perfect. And the danishes, don't even get me started...fantastic! The front counter staff also completely make the experience. They are incredibly personable, kind, hardworking, and efficient. They run a fast paced ship while maintaining such kindness and thoughtfulness. Unfortunately some of the staff can be very unfriendly and make you feel uncomfortable asking questions. Also if you come in within 1 hour of close they are visibly not happy about it and everything is served on paper at that point.“

“I went into Double D's when I needed to find something for dessert for a family dinner. I was met by a wonderfully cheery woman that informed me that she was one of the D's in Double D's. I had never been there before and I let her know that, and she was not only extremely helpful but awesomely charismatic and you could tell she had a passion for what she was doing. She told me to try the Pistachio, Blueberry, and Skor and they were all a hit. I wish I could remember her name, but I do know I will be going back next time I am in Winnipeg! Definitely recommend!“

“Recently ordered from them, it was last minute order. I called around 1:30 pm for cake order and I was surprised they made it so quickly that it was ready to be picked up by 4:00 pm same day. The cake was beautiful, very tasty, fresh, had right amount of moisture, very soft and the cream was not too sweet. Everything was just perfect. Also the owners are super nice. “I stopped by this spot on Corydon for a quick treat and had such a lovely experience. The display case is absolutely packed with incredible options. It is hard to choose between the cakes, pies, and fresh sandwiches.

I ended up settling on a cinnamon roll with a coffee. It was the perfect afternoon pick-me-up. Everything looks so fresh and well-made. I will definitely be back to try one of the gift boxes of shortbread cookies.“

This is a local Filipino bakery that offers an excellent variety of Filipino sweet treats, including turon, bicho bicho, sugar bread and many other items. They also offer hot, ready to go food perfect for lunch or dinner. Street parking is available in addition to parking in the rear. The staff is extremely welcoming and friendly. Prices are very fair. Decided to order in desert but when we finished the selection and went to order on skip, the store was closed for orders - by two minutes. We decided to phone to see if there was any way to let the order go through but they explained that is controlled by skip the dishes. To make a long story short, when they heard it was for a pregnant, newly expecting mother, Menchie offered to personally deliver our order after their shift ended and the store closed. They even threw in extra goodies at no added cost! Absolutely amazing! And of course, everything was delicious.“

“I used to go to Maxim Bakery all the time when I was in that area, and I’m telling you, it’s one of those places you don’t even realize you miss until you’re not around it anymore.

First off, it’s a real bakery. Not one of these places where everything looks like it was designed in Photoshop and tastes like disappointment and food colouring. This place? You walk in and it just smells like someone actually knows what they’re doing.

And the guy running it is awesome. Just a solid dude. No fake “corporate friendliness,” no upselling you like you’re buying a car just “hey, how’s it going,” and you get your pastries. Simple. Like the world used to work.

And the pastries? Come on. Really good. The kind of stuff where you go in thinking “I’ll just grab one,” and then you’re standing there negotiating with yourself like an idiot going, “Well… I’m already here… might as well get another…” and suddenly you’ve got a bag full of baked goods you didn’t plan for.

That’s a good bakery. That’s it. No gimmicks, no nonsense, just good food and a guy who seems like he’s not trying to ruin your day. Which nowadays? That’s basically five stars.“
