“So glad I made the trip down to try authentic Indonesian food in the DMV area! Ordered the Padang-Style Rice Platter (rice + beef rendang + jackfruit curry), Satay Padang & the Padang-Style Ayam Bakar. Everything was perfectly spiced and accompanied with the sambal made the whole meal delicious! Also ordered the traditional drink, Bajigur, which was perfect for the chilly rainy day.

They also offer various Indonesian products for sale like snacks & seasoning packets.”

“The new Kensington location of Marathon Deli is the exact addition this neighborhood needed. Run by a local family who has lived in the area for decades, this is truly a family-owned business at its heart. From the moment you walk through the door, they are warm, welcoming, and genuinely joyful to have your business. You instantly feel like you are being welcomed into someone’s home.

The vibe is incredible. Everyone is visibly happy to be there, and the energy is contagious. They stay open late, which fills a massive late-night dining void in Kensington. When we went, they had fantastic live Greek music (a bit loud for quiet conversation, but full of life), followed by a great mix of music that kept the room buzzing. We ran into so many people from the local Greek community (I'm not Greek but know a few, HEY YALL), which tells you everything you need to know about the food's authenticity. We loved the experience so much that we somehow ended up coming back again the night after. The owner and his family are full of life and really just want their customers to have a good experience. The menu hits every mark:

Avgolemono Soup: My absolute favorite. Rich, comforting, perfectly balanced with lemon, and made with so much care.

Authentic Gyros: Out of this world. In an area where dining out can get expensive fast, finding a massive, delicious gyro or sandwich for around $12 is practically unheard of.Calamari Platter: Tender, crispy, and easily rivals high-end Mediterranean spots.

Wings: Crisp, sauced, and flavorful enough to give any dedicated wing place a run for their money.The Fries: Generous portions and packed with flavor.

Pro tip: whatever you take home (fries especially!) heats up beautifully crisp in an air fryer the next day.

They also offer a wine list that is thoughtful, accessible, and refreshingly affordable.

“One of my favorite local businesses. Staff is always super friendly, cheerful, and accommodating. I’m a creature of habit and drop in there maybe once a week - sometimes less, sometimes more. I always order the same dish, and they wave as I come in the front door and start working on my order even before I get to the register. Just wonderful folks.”

Slices of perfectly ripened Bosc Pear perched atop a bed of creamy Goat Cheese Fondue and crisp Mixed Greens, the plate jeweled with both Red and Golden Beets, Toasted
Almonds, and Red Onion; drizzled with Hot Honey and Apple Cider
Vinaigrette. And the Salmon was just as expertly prepared… the edges crisped, but the interior still silky. Wow, just WOW… I’ll definitely be back for more.”

“Donut King saved the day for me today! I was in search of Wi-Fi for an important work meeting after my power went out due to the snow storm. I decided to walk 1.5 miles in the snow to the Starbucks nearby only to be turned away as they were only taking drive-through customers. Thankfully I decided to walk around the corner and found Donut King was open with free Wi-Fi! The employees were so nice and friendly despite the cold. I ordered a cappuccino and logged onto my computer just in time for my meeting. My coffee was hand delivered, along with several donuts on the house, which turned out to be the only food I had for much of the day. This was an unexpected and delightful treat. Thank you, Donut King, for making my day!! I hope others will read this review and give this place a try. The food is great and the warm and welcoming atmosphere is hard to find these days.
