“My family has been coming here for years, and our children and their families enjoy this place too. But for me, what makes this restaurant especially meaningful is a simple tradition I share with my wife our Friday lunch.

Whenever we can, we come here on Friday, sit down, enjoy our favorite dishes, and let the busy week come to an end. It has become our little way of starting the weekend together.

Mookie and Blue are a big part of what makes this place so special. They always greet us with a smile, remember us and our usual order, and make us feel completely comfortable. We don’t have to think about much we just sit down, relax, enjoy our meal, and feel at home.

Over lunch, my wife and I usually start talking about our weekend maybe taking a drive, doing some sightseeing, finding a nice coffee shop, or simply enjoying some quiet time together.

Somehow, our weekend often begins right here.

Of course we love the food, but what keeps us coming back is the warmth, familiarity, and kindness. Sometimes a favorite restaurant becomes more than a place to eat it becomes part of your life and your memories.

“I have eaten here thrice before. with my colleagues. I ordered the basil fried rice with vegetable and chicken. It was bursting with fresh flavors and wonderfully intense spiciness. Everything is so clean, and the staff is friendly and efficient! We were the last ones to leave and never felt rushed or like we were being a nuisance to the staff. “This is a solid place and a gem in Rockville & MoCo as they are the first restaurant to serve Laotian food. Their fried fish tofu is my go to app: it is delicately made and on point. Had their Lao khao soi for the first time and the freshness and quality of spare ribs and minced pork are top notch. Service can be slow as there is typically only one server working at lunch and I feel that they should have one more server as service can be slow at times. A huge bonus that they are on the AA dining program.“

“Enjoyed some great dishes from here recently, all quite fresh and delicious. I loved their papaya salad, had the right amount of spice and crunch! The Massaman curry was quite good, nice and rich and the beef quality was pretty good. My favorite dish was the Sukiyaki (stir-fried clear noodles in homemade house special sauce with seafood, egg, cabbages, carrots, and scallions), great balance of sweet and spicy and the noodle were super soft. Would love to try order more from here, great addition to the other very good Thai restaurants already in the area.“

“This place was amazing!! My husband and I have been to the AMC movie theater a couple times at this mall and have seen this sushi place and have wanted to try it. It was better than expected. All 4 sushi rolls were great, Wagyu beef fried rice: AMAZING, and also had 2 different Sakes that were delicious. The inside of the restaurant is my dream decor and you can’t even tell you’re in a mall. Our waiter was so helpful and nice and the owner/manager of the restaurant came to talk to us and told us that not many people know they are there. Please visit this place so it can stay open and I can keep going back!“

“I have nothing but good things to say about Gourmet Asian Bistro (7224 Muncaster Mill Rd, Derwood, MD 20855). It offers Chinese, Thai, and sushi. I've eaten there 3 times in the past 2 weeks, and it's been excellent every time and affordable! The vegetable tofu soup ($2.95) is huge, satisfying, and full of veggies. The wonton soup ($2.95) has 3 good sized wontons. Both soups come with a bowl of tastier-than-average fried wonton strips on the side that I end up munching on during the entire meal. The sizzling black pepper beef ($16.95?) was tasty, but I was more impressed by the noodle dishes. The beef chow fun ($14.95?) and the Singapore mei fun ($13.95) were beautifully seasoned and cooked perfectly. I've also gotten the salmon nigiri ($5.95?) a couple times, and it's generously portioned and fresh with great quality salmon. Every meal ends with a complimentary tiny scoop of vanilla ice cream and fortune cookie. There are plenty of good Chinese restaurants in MoCo, but Gourmet Asian Bistro is my current favorite for best flavor and value.“

Not only did they make sure we got our delicious food quickly, when they brought out his dessert they played a happy birthday song!
