“Some of the best halal I've ever had. I've been coming here for over a decade. The owner is an incredibly kind man, the food is delicious, and the price is unbeatable. Highly recommend. In case it's not obvious, this is a food cart, so there's no seating. That's not a negative, just something to keep in mind if you're coming for the first time.“

“I tried the Vegan Halal Bowl and it was absolutely delicious! The bowl came with rice and a fresh salad. I added french fries and topped everything with their white sauce—which was like a ranch, and honestly, I give that a 10/10 on its own. It brought the whole dish together and made it super flavorful.

The rice had a brown rice texture, and the salad was fresh and crisp with lettuce, cucumbers, tomatoes, and green peppers. I also had a side of pita bread or naan, which was soft, warm, and perfect with the bowl.
The customer service was excellent—everyone was friendly and welcoming.

As a first-time visitor, I really appreciated the recommendations. Even the cook came out to suggest some items from the menu, which made the experience feel personal and genuine.

“I’ve ordered three times here since Nov 2025, and the halal indication is what made me curious to try the place. I’m happy Hunan Cafe is in the neighborhood! The food is good and clean, meat portions generous, the white rice that comes as a side was fragrant and tasty. I’m not left second guessing my order unlike other Chinese take out spots that can be too oily or use too much MSG. The service is reliable and friendly.

More details: I’ve placed over the phone with no issue and have ordered using the kiosk. They securely pack the takeout. I’ve earned a reward through Toast, the ordering app. There’s plenty of space to eat-in, if you’d like. I haven’t had an issue with parking, it’s a strip / plaza lot shared with other businesses. Dishes I’ve tried: spicy chicken wonton, lo mein, Taiwan noodle with veggie, Szechuan beef, and La Zhi chicken.“

Yes. There’s even a bottle where you can get more of the sauce. The Coke machine was out of order, but there was a drink cooler full of everything you could need.“

“They have a very unique specialty pizza with gyro meat that is amazing and unlike any other I have found. So yum. Also, when I had one bad delivery experience after usually good service, they went out of their way to make it up to me on the next order. “I came to Arlington for a business trip from Atlanta. I've been to the Ballston Food Court several times since I visit frequently. First time at Hal & Als and I ordered the brisket sandwich. the cashier who I assume is the owner was telling me about who he learned to make ribs from down in Atlanta. he was so hospitable too. he asked me to let him know what I thought. I completely forgot. everything was great. halal BBQ is a little different but it blew me away. I'll def revisit when I'm in Arlington again.“

“I had the chicken kabob plate. In the picture there's white rice on the plate (under the naan bread). The chicken, both types of rice, and the bread were my favorite parts!! It was delicious and very filling. I didn't eat the salad (I don't eat salad, and I didn't know it came with the meal). I also tried the chickpeas, but I didn't finish them. They were ok.“

This review is based on to go orders.

The food here is exceptional, that’s why it’s unfortunate that I had to give a one star review.

All of my orders here are to go. Everytime i order the chickpeas or potatoes, the containers would break and food would leak out. In 10 orders i pick up, all 10 times this would happen. If the sides are stacked on top of each other the lids would crack and the containers would cave in. I understand because the sides may be too hot, but the containers needs to be stable enough to handle a 10min transport without leaking out.

I hope you can find a solution because the food here is great.“
