“Rivalries has always been one of my favorite spots, especially in the summertime. Whether I’m hanging out on the deck, stopping by for lunch, or watching a Boston sports game with friends, it’s always a great time. The food may be classic pub style, but it’s pub style on steroids—I’ve never had a bad meal here.

Lance, the owner, is often around and genuinely takes time to check in on guests, which is a great touch. But the real star of the staff is Jen, the head manager. She’s absolutely phenomenal to work with, especially when it comes to planning a function. Whether it’s a small family gathering or a larger group event, Jen’s professionalism, experience, and friendly approach make the whole process easy—and even fun.

They truly do a great job all around, and I always look forward to coming back.“

“This is one of our go to restaurants. We went last night because they were donating a percentage of sales to charitable organizations who support New Mainers. Our meals have always been very good. We were in the bar area and it was busy, so the noise level was high.“

My boyfriend and I drive twice a year to visit our favorite hotel and restaurant :) we truly cannot express how amazing this team is. We LOVE the lattes and Greek yogurt with homemade granola (it is our absolute favorite breakfast/brunch ever). It was so good that we asked to have the house granola sent to us and the Salt Yard team sent it immediately!

We also recommend the charcuterie board (excellent cheeses) & any of their drinks! They also have trivia on occasion!

“Had the Super Beef today…. It was super awesome. I’m already looking forward to my next trip there. The buns were nicely toasted, the roast beef was rare, tender, and flavorful. Everything you want in roast beef. The horseradish and barbecue sauces really tied the whole thing together. It was the perfect amount of food but I still would have had another. Also looking forward to going back and trying everything else on the menu, it all sounds fantastic. They also have a full bar, live entertainment, and trivia. “This meal was a 10/10 early on just from the bread (from Standard Baking Co.) and Wood oven roasted mussels alone. The way we’d bottle the sauce they were cooked in if we could. Both the hangar steak and pork chop were seasoned and cooked to perfection. Mashed potatoes are the best we ever had. Rhubarb creme brûlée was perfect and light. Ambiance is lovely. Service was amazing. Left so happy and satisfied. Would come back over and over.“

But what made the experience even more special was the incredible team behind it. Kate and her staff went above and beyond to accommodate our large wedding and made the entire day smoother and even more beautiful than we could have ever imagined. “Last month our flight to Portland was delayed a considerable amount of time due to weather issues and it looked as though we would not be able to make our 5p.m. reservation. My daughter called from the tarmac in Boston where we were rerouted and refueled and explained the situation. The hostess, Susie, was very understanding and compassionate And said that even though our table was booked for another party a 7, we should come in and she would see what she could do. We got there late but Susie greeted us warmly and told us not to worry about being rushed that she had arranged things so no one would be inconvenienced. The atmosphere was warm and cozy; the food so very delicious and our waitperson, Anika, was the best. Atmosphere, impeccable service, food and warmth all rate 5 stars and another visit next time we are in Portland.“

“I stopped in Blazes today, had been craving a burger, and they didn’t disappoint! The cowboy burger was delicious, burger cooked just right, the onions and peppers perfectly caramelized, the sauce, bacon, and cheese, exactly the fat you want in a good burger. The bun was perfect and gave the perfect bread to burger/toppings ratio. And the side of onion rings was great, good portion, nice and crispy, not burnt and not soggy. Highly recommend!“

“Oh My God what a gem this place is! First off when you walk in it smells incredible. I had the Godmother grilled cheese. It was so good I couldn't hold a conversation......or maybe it was their margaritas!! Anyway the sandwich was unbelievable and the "secret sauce" on the side for dipping is something I didn't think I needed but ended up wanting to be buried in!“

“One of my favorite croissants that I have eaten. Really delicious flavour and flaky exterior. The inside was chewy and things were good. The almond croissant was also amazing and different from others I have had. It was like a snail with almond paste. I enjoyed that it wasn't super sweet and heavy like the twice-baked almond croissants soaked in simple syrup that i am used to. The rustic loaf that I have been slowly working through is also amazing. When I am in Portland again I will certainly be returning to try other breads and pastry. The server was very helpful and friendly which made the whole experience pleasant. The smell of fresh bread and pastry inside the bakery is intoxicating.“

Everything I have had from here is delicious.
