“I went to Taj AL-Yemen simply because it was open early and did not realize the space they took over nor how much variety they have.
1st this was a very famous breakfast spot in Hamtramck before the change of owners and I'm happy to say it still is. Very steady stream of workers coming in for a quick bite or grab coffee and something to go.
2nd the variety is wide and it's all very very good. I ordered fosoulia with egg, chicken galaba but it was too early for tandoori bread. I also got a mango lassi (yes I have to order it everytime I see it)
When I arrived I first drove past remembering the old spot then I double checked GPS. The inside layout of the restaurant has been redone, lots and lots of seating. You still have the doughnut counter but the I noticed Burek, whenever I see Burek I have to order it they have feta and spiced beef. It's super fresh and still warm at 7:15 am.
There's another hot food case, lots of choices but I saw the East African/Western Arabian (Arab/Swahili) style sambosas (yes with the B!) and of course I had to get 6 of those with the spice shake.
Additionally they have the same Arab/Swahili style sesame + honey crackers so I had to get some of these as well.
FINALLY I'm looking and they have the tastiest looking Saffron Rice and it was too fresh to pass up and a medium size box also had to come with me.
Now when I say I bought a lot of food I really mean I bought a lot of food. With tip it was only $70 and I'll be eating for days.
So happy to have found this gem in Hamtramck that opens up super early on my 2nd day of vacation. There's too much good food, the doughnut also look amazing. I'd say you have to go for the samBosas alone.“

“Wow. What an absolutely fantastic final dinner of 2023! After we managed to find a late dinner reservation for New Year's Eve, it was a relief to discover that our excitement about the tasting menu was well-placed. I would definitely recommend the drink pairings as well! The amuse-bouche featuring oysters from the West and East coasts was a delightful way to splash into the meal. The wasabi and the mangosteen featured in each of the oysters, respectively, complimented the beautiful brine of the oysters in such a wonderfully playful way. This first tasting urged us to pause the menu progression and order an extra dozen oysters to explore the other possibilities. Tasting from Vancouver to Prince Edward Island, they were beautifully prepared and of excellent quality. The first course of lobster salad felt like a summer in Maine. Not that I've ever been to Maine, but the imaginary scene flashed across my vision as I took that first refreshing bite. The grapefruit emulsion worked almost majestically with the light, refreshing flavor of the lobster salad. The tapioca chip was perfect for the crunch to fully bring the different elements of the dish together. A fascinating intersection of refreshment and comfort. The second course was the potato pavé. I'll be thinking of this potato often for the foreseeable future. It was one of those dishes that makes your eyes pop open a bit when you bite it as you realize how good it is. A beautifully layered and seared rectangle of flaky delicious potato resting with a lovely salsa brava speckled with trout roe, topped with tarragon, cured trout, and black truffle flakes. I don't even know what else to say. It was stunning. Sea urchin buttered ramen, the third course, will always be what I wish my at-home thrown-together ramen could be. It was rich, it was luscious, it was comforting. Growing up in southeast Texas, crawfish boils were always some of the most exciting times of the year. The crawfish tails in the ramen brought me back to those summer days eating crawfish with a cold beer. The duck breast for the fourth course was exceptionally cooked. It was juicy and flavorful and made a perfect bite with a bit of cauliflower, raisins, apricot, agrodolce, and foie-sauce. Each bite was such a symphony of flavor that kept me coming back. Last but absolutely not least was the gâteau ardéchois: the chestnut cream cake. Accompanied by cranberry coulis and crispy meringue bites, this dessert was a sweet but still mellow finish. While the coffee mascarpone ice cream was a robust and complementary flavor, we both agreed the vanilla coconut ice cream was the star between the two. Thank you again to the stellar crew at Mink! Happy New Year!“

“Silly me!
I just found this Happy Hour M-F 2-5:30
We got here 3:15 on a Thursday, totally chill, parked right out front.
Great spot for half day hookie. Nooner or sooner. ))
We had: bloody mary's, the burger is excellant, salmon dip is very tasty, the fried pickles are spears & lightly breaded. Moving on to the spicy margarita & ranch water.
The patio seating in the afternoon is shaded by the building.
I'll be back.“

“If you're in Detroit and you're a foodie like I am, Vecino is not to be missed. This was truly one of the best experiences I've had a restaurant from top to the bottom! The ambiance, the music was fantastic, the food was soo flavorful and just sublime, and Molly the bartender just killed it! Molly was fantastic, she was super genuine and friendly, attentive, and she even gave me a recommendation for a cool wine bar the next night. Highly highly recommend Vecino its fantastic!“

“We always have a great experience here. The food is consistently excellent, and the atmosphere makes it an easy place to relax and enjoy a meal. Service was just as strong—our waitress was very attentive and made sure everything went smoothly from start to finish. It’s the kind of place where you feel well taken care of without even having to ask. Lumen really stands out as a go-to spot for both great food and reliable service.“

“Townhouse continues to be one of Detroit’s standout dining experiences. The sushi is phenomenal—exceptionally fresh, with rice that’s perfectly seasoned and cooked just right, which makes all the difference. The ambiance is equally impressive, offering an upscale yet comfortable atmosphere that feels special without being pretentious.
If possible, request indoor seating facing Congress or Woodward Street. The views add another layer to the experience and make for great people-watching while you dine.
The price point is definitely on the higher end, but the quality, freshness, execution, and overall experience justify the cost. Simply put, the food and atmosphere deliver value that aligns well with the premium pricing.“

“We planned on trying a few other pasta spots for Valentine’s Day, but everything was booked solid. Ended up giving the new kid on the block, Oak & Reel, a shot—and I’m glad we did. The veal-stuffed ravioli was unreal. Do yourself a favor and save room for dessert—it’s non-negotiable. And the Banana Run cocktail? Dangerously good.“

“Fred's has established themselves as the fsh kings in me and my family eyes.
I really don't know or understand what's going on with the fish market these days, but the fish from other establishments I have frequented, are bad pieces of fish to sell to the market.
I won't name the establishment, but they serve fish for profits only. The quality of the fish is subpar at best .
Fred's has consistently served fresh flavorful fish, with choice pieces that were selected for satisfaction and to cure the hunger of their customers.
Way to go Fred...“

“I've had the pleasure of purchasing food from the space several times. It's located inside of the gas station, but has his own section on the far end. I've had the chance to purchase lunch and dinner, and the food has been really good. The only issue I've had is what I received during those orders. I did not receive everything I requested. Other than that, I would suggest giving them a try.“

“New menu was amazing. We had the potatoes, the scallops, burrata, and mushroom with shiitake dish. Burrata was hands down my favorite, thing. Perfect combination!! Highly recommend everything I got and the service was perfect, I mean like I finished my water and by the time my glass hit the table it was refilled. This was actually my second time, I’ve been before for a friends birthday and we had a different menu…..the pomegranate ribs were mouthwatering delicious. Not to mention the atmosphere inside, I personally love plants and that’s the first thing you notice when you walk in the door. Check it out for yourself, you won’t be disappointed!!“

“I tried Vicente’s Cuban Restaurant in Detroit last weekend before a Tigers game and it did not disappoint! A lot of restaurants downtown were either closed or had long waits, so I decided to give Vicente’s a try and I’m glad I did. The staff was very friendly, the food came out quickly, and the Pan Con Bistec was amazing. Shoutout to our server Abraham for being so accommodating. Definitely recommend checking this place out if you’re downtown Detroit!“

“We rolled up to a full house with guests waiting on their take out food. Somehow you knew it was food worthy waiting for. There was community amongst strangers in anticipation of being fed. The car ride home was plagued with the aroma of delicious food, making a 15 minute drive feel like an eternity. Once home, we grabbed forks and dug in like starved hostages. I briefly reminded myself to chew and savory the flavors and not just inhale the plate like a wild animal. Starving or not, the food was perfect! Broccoli to perfection, rice that soaked up the sauce, chicken juicy, salmon flaky and moist. Would order again!“

“Cool Establishment (though hot as hell in the lobby). Very pleasant customer service. I had the Chopped Cheese Fries, extra ranch & bacon. It was really good. I grew up in NJ/NY & chopped cheese sandwiches from the bodegas are a great memory for me, so this is a good spot to ease my nostalgia. I’ll be trying the Chopped Cheese sandwich next time.“
