“Wow! My wife and I celebrated our 16 year wedding anniversary here tonight. The food, absolutely amazing! Drinks, amazing! But what I really want to rave about is how wonderful their service and hospitality was. We had a lovely hand written note at our table wishing us a happy anniversary. Multiple people told us happy anniversary. Our server, Ericka, she was real genuine and nice and at the end of our dinner she brought us a vase of flowers. This was hands down the best dining experience we have had. Thanks for making this an enjoyable and rememberable night for us.“

“Frequently meet friends and have some of the best brunch in the city. Always busy but for a reason, and the service and hospitality which are already top notch, do not suffer. An example of this is when they bring you your food they remember who ordered which plate. This is one of those underrated hospitality things they do that other establishments don’t reach. “Have been twice, about 2 years apart. It really is an experience. Beautiful food and service. On the way home my wife and I decided to make Grove our anniversary tradition. Thank you for the lovely evening.“

“Our favorite restaurant no longer serves Manhattan style clam chowder and we are nothing less than heartbroken. We didn't realize that our favorite thing there wasn't popular enough to retain as a menu item when Leo's changed hands. We can live with the smaller lobster tails, but this is really hard for us to take. Cry.“

We were very happy with everything from the time we entered to the time we left and here is why…

1. Staff - all that we interacted with were very kind, nice, helpful, and attentive. Our waitress was well versed in the menu and did a great job. We enjoyed having her serve us.

2. Food - today we went right for the entree (skipped apps) and could have been more pleased.

My chicken strips and tots were done to a crispy golden perfection that I just loved with the BBQ sauce they served. Highly recommend.

My wife said her burger was excellent and the loaded tots were so good she could have had them just on their own.

And the prices were very reasonable yet, worth it.

3. Atmosphere - a sports bar with many TVs for fans to watch the game (myself included) is a perfect atmosphere for me but when you go to converse with others, it’s always perfect when nothing over powers your conversation.

By this I mean the TVs were not blaring and neither was music. It was a calm easy going feel where we both could enjoy great conversation without saying “huh? Can’t hear you.”

All in all, we may have waited a few years before trying Big E’s on Beltline in Grand Rapids but better late then never. We will be back and recommend it to anyone interested.“

“Was in tonight for dinner in GR on the front patio with a couple girlfriends and we were approached by a homeless man who tried to grab our bags. I’m reaching out to praise your manager and the rest of the staff for taking our concerns seriously and jumping into action. Top notch team you’ve got there. “Had a fantastic time. Showed up without a reservation on a Friday night. We got seated immediately near the salt water fish tank.

Servers were incredible. Personable, upbeat, made suggestions, even spent a few minutes telling us all the fish's names (Shout-out to Insane Clown Posse, Flapjack, and Spaghetti)

The drinks were great. They are tiki drinks, so you know they are way too crushable for how much rum is in them.

I got the Szechuan pork bowl, veggie spring rolls and both were great. Pork bowl was such a unique flavor and everything melded together perfect.

The spring rolls were some of the crispiest I've ever had.

And the atmosphere was nailed. It felt like your grandparents 60s basement.“

“We are here today for lunch. We are in town for States for Hockey and staying next door. By far the best restaurant experience I have ever had in my life. Fast, very friendly service. We got the salad/pizza bar and my son wanted a specific pizza and the made it right away fresh and hot and came to our table to tell us when it was ready so he could go get some. He’s picky and sometimes hard to please with food and no restaurant has ever been this kind an amazing to him. We have been places that won’t even bring refills in seven time. This restaurant was on top of everything! It was a great experience and we will definitely be back as we frequent Grand Rapids with 3 kids in hockey.“

She tried to get the game on for us but didn’t know how to do it. She came back and said her manager came in and she is taking care of it. So as we are sitting there, what I assume is the manager, comes over and in a very condescending way says the game is over and they won. My boyfriend is a big fan. I said “oh did he grow up in Chicago?” Again she said rudely comments “color matters.” We asked for the white Sox game and never got it. Food was good, service from Kylie was great, interaction with the manager should have not been that way.“

“We came to try out the city sen restaurant. My husband had the mushroom goat cheeseburger. He said it was juicy and flavorful --no condiments necessary. I had the beef quesadillas. although this was on the shareable menu, it was quite large enough for me as a meal. The food was good, but it was the little amenities that made it very special --the unique silverware, carafe of ice water and pleasant ambient music in a modern setting made it a very special place for our date. It was fun to people watch through the open air windows. ( they fold close to keep in the AC if needed )Alex the manager shared with us some things we want to come back for, live music, etc. definitely planning to go back!

“I had so many amazing & positive experiences with Portico over my wedding weekend. We hosted our cocktail hour for our wedding at the Portico and it was nothing short of incredible. The food was amazing, the staff was attentive, kind and flexible, and the space was perfect.
We also ordered breakfast take out for the bridal party on the day of the wedding, and it all turned out perfect. The food was hot, delicious and the perfect thing to have on the day I got married! I loved the breakfast sandwich so much that I ordered it to my room when I woke up the day after my wedding. The restaurant is in an awesome location and helped us have an amazing wedding weekend!
