“I grew up in this town but left in 1985. I’ve lived in California since and have eaten at a lot of great restaurants including the Laundry, Chez Panisse, Slanted Door and Mr Chows to name a few. If you’re hungry for something exceptional look no further. I have never liked mushrooms, but the mushroom toast was my favorite dish. I can’t believe I’m saying it. “Oaky’s is out of the way near Grawn, but it’s worth the drive. Old timers knew the place as Giovanni’s Roadhouse, then Maddy’s Tavern. Both had ok food in a rustic building. Oaky’s owners have greatly improved the place. It’s large and airy inside, with a long wraparound deck outside. The food is mighty fine: the kitchen did a first-class job with our Smoked Turkey Club and Steak ’n Mushroom soup. The servers know their stuff and are a pleasure to deal with. The prices are a reasonable - indeed, they’re a buck or two lower per item than what you’ll find at competitors. And the parking lot isn’t the potholed monster like it was back in the old days.“

“We stopped here for breakfast after spending a weekend in Traverse City. The food was amazing. We had biscuits and gravy and the breakfast skillet. i highly recommend if you are in the area. We even offered for a young man who was by himself to join us. He was a local who eats there every Saturday and Sunday.“

“It’s worth your salt to try Identity Brewing. Your first impulse may be to say “What’s up with the biscuit sandwiches?” Biscuits is a clever choice. They taste good. And they maintain their structural integrity when stacked with cuban, club, veggie, and chicken fixins’. That’s as opposed to, say, the buns used by Traverse City hot dog joints, which fall apart before they’re half eaten. Try the Chicken Cordon Bleu biscuit sandwich. Pair it with a pint of Strait Up if you like an IPA, or Amanda’s Folly if you prefer a soft blonde ale. And if you visit Identity between the rushes, chat with the staff. They’re good eggs. The guy we talked with has some of the best body art I’ve seen since the Navy. The gal will tell you she’s got a tat, too. Fair warning: she doesn’t. She gets tickled when she tells men she has a tattoo, then sees their eyes roam across her neck, hands, and ankles looking for it.“

He consistently made sure we were comfortable with the men who sat down next to us at the bar, which may not sound like the biggest deal, but as women it’s a luxury to be able to enjoy ourselves while knowing there was someone looking out for us. To that bartender, thank you for being the kind of man women can feel safe around. And you have GREAT taste in music and make a mean vodka soda.“

“Come here every year over New Year’s Eve and if you are coming now, the outdoor pool isn’t even close to up to temp. It is a big disappoint after the 5 hour drive and no one in hospitality bothered to tell anyone staying here about the pool not being warm considering it’s the main attraction to this place“

The pork chop with cherry sauce on top was scrumptious.
My wife had the delicious crusted chicken sandwich.
Our kids were happy as pie with their pizza and burger.
Our server Jack is a seasoned pro who was kind and attentive.

“Great coffee, especially the "cold brew". Friendly staff and great atmosphere and they take care of the seniors with an early bird discount in the mornings. Highly recommended“

“I almost didn't come here due to the rating and reviews... maybe I just came on an off day, but my fam and I had a nice dinner here. Food was priced fine, we were seated immediately (630 on a Friday, fam of 4).

May was our server and she was awesome. Food was pretty solid as well (I had prime rib). My wife had pasta which she seemed to like. Our kids were hopped up on sugar so who knows.

Either way, management needs to focus on rebuilding their trust (encouraging people to leave reviews more) because while some of these reviews are recent, many seem to be from a time of when it was really bad I guess.“

“I've been going here since the 70s, no better prime rib anywhere. The staff are all great, like family, but Debbie is our favorite. I give them a solid 4+ but would take it to 5 if they would ever bring the salad bar back. Love this place.“
