“I love Strange Matter! Having a location on campus is a total lifesaver for students like me who don’t have a car and can’t easily get to their other shops. The coffee is spectacular—you can truly taste the quality in every cup. Their doughnuts are just as incredible and are my favorite in East Lansing (or honestly, anywhere). The staff is amazing—always so kind and welcoming, no matter how busy it gets. Special shoutout to Eli for their awesome energy and for getting me hooked on iced coffee (I usually only drink hot so this was a big move for me lol).
I also really appreciate Strange Matter’s values—they actively support important causes like LGBTQIA+ rights, women’s equality, reproductive justice, and more. It makes supporting them feel even more meaningful.
As a now-alum, I’m truly going to miss stopping by for their delicious drinks, treats, and the all-around fantastic atmosphere. The next time I’m in town, the MSU Union Strange Matter will definitely be my first stop.

“I'm a regular at this place and it's awesome. The coffee shop has a bunch of different coffees and teas that I really like. Personally, I'm a fan of the Yemeni tea. I totally recommend this place - it's one of the best spots for a coffee or tea in Lansing.“

“Finding fried vegan donuts can be nearly impossible. Therefore, I have to stop at Strange Matter every time I’m in Lansing. Almost all of their pastries are vegan. My non-vegan friends love their donuts too. They also sell vegan scones and pop tarts. I’ve enjoyed every donut I’ve had from there, but I recommend the blueberry, the Boston cream (pictured) and the sugar cookie (pictured, seasonal). The sugar cookie donut tastes like what Starbucks thinks a sugar cookie tastes like (I mean this positively. It’s one of the best donuts I’ve ever had). Their savory everything donut filled with vegan cream cheese is also amazing. For coffee, they have oat milk and almond milk. I’m not a proficient judge of coffee, but the oat milk sugar cookie latte I got was good. I do wish they had soy milk as an option. Updated from previous review on 2026-01-16“

“My partner and I had never been to Hooked, but we came for a Euchre tournament. The owner Matt is so pleasant, and the employees are so kind and gracious. The coffee and food were delicious. “I've been to two locations to work remotely, 3 or 4 times each. Both locations are clean and bright and friendly. The coffee and tea selection is large, and the customer service is good. I'm vegan so there's only one food item I can get here, a traditional bread with seeds and spices on it, which was delicious, but I don't remember the name. The staff warmed it up with oil rather than butter for me, and we talked about halal versus vegan (it was a slow day and no one was waiting). I thought most people know what veganism is (not eating any animal products at all) and from what I learned, halal is a specific practice of raising and slaughtering animals in an ethical way, but definitely not the same thing :D I will come back for the coffee and tea, but consider offering more vegan food!“

“What a lovely visit! The atmosphere is very inviting. The many seating choices makes a morning wanderer wander no more. Bar stools, tables, cozy high back chairs, couches, they have options! I had a nitro alongside my books and journal. A few minutes later, a barista comes over with a new nitro & tells me they realized the one I had may have been flat. (They realized it moments later.) That is amazing customer service! Divinity was the cashier and one that offered me a new one. She was great from beginning to end, even mentioning that they make their own brown sugar syrup! It’s pleasant starting your day with yummy coffee paired with a smiling face and such a feel good bonus that she cared that I had the nitro at its best. I walked blocks on a chilly morning for this with zero regrets. THANK YOU :)“

“I come to this Dunkin pretty often and they are one of the better ones! Coffee is always great! This morning I was missing a couple donuts in my order and I called later to see what they could do! They have a great selection for most items, they are convenient to Williamston and they are improving the store and selections all the time. I think their sales are great.
